What would you have done to give his character more of a personality if you were in charge of writing the show?

Im on season 5 and it's my first watch but I'm assuming he doesn't get more interesting. The baby mama plot with Seska was fun for awhile but he's fizzled out since.
>>
>>221622653
im only at end of s2 but his introduction i assumed hes gonna be a first mate and work with janeway a lot but he just got sidelined and mostly just interacts with the other maquiis
>>
>>221622653
He basically just becomes "generic first officer man". He does fine in that role but he doesn't have any standout episodes either.

But I've never hated him and I don't think many people do.
>>
>>221622653
>What would you have done to give his character more of a personality if you were in charge of writing the show?
I wish the Maquis crew hadn't completely integrated. The Tuvok boot camp episode was great, and Chakotay punching the guy to get him to obey was great. It would have been nice to see him having to walk a tightrope between keeping the Maquis under control and keeping his loyalty to them paramount (lol).

Unfortunately he just becomes a generic heya hoya first officer by the middle of Season 1.
>>
>>221622653
A shaman gives him spirit animal powers, Eyes of the Hawk, Ears of the Wolf, Strength of the Bear and Speed of the Puma. he also has a robot horse that can turn into a regular bipedal android that shoots guns. Also fire Beltran and hire a real injun like Lou Diamond Philips. Save money by cutting in scenes from Last of the Mohicans and pretend it's planet Oragulon IV.

While this is true, I think it's important to say that he does a really good job as a generic heya hoya first officer.

He's a good supporting character, he's just not interesting enough to have good episodes himself.
But his character is always likable. There are times where you'll wish he'd beat the shit out of Janeway (like Equinox)

We've already had that. It was called JJ Trek and while it was offensive, dumbed down, and ultimately retarded, it was still less offensive than everything that came after. Just not by enough.

Honestly the real solution was to make voyager the syndicated show and make deep space nine the upn anchor. The writers showed they had no real interest in maintaining a broader continuous narrative in voyager, it was always just designed to be a week to week serial with the only story progress being the distance home being closer. I think it still works well but really only in tandem in watching this side by side with deep space nine in release order
>>
Is she the least talked about Voyager character? Possibly even the least discussed among all the pre-ENT crews? She doesn't seem to have a particularly strong waifubase compared to the other Berman-era women. She's not particularly hated or clowned on like you see with some other characters. I like her, but she's just kinda there. I almost want to say I Harry more because he's so memorably pathetic.

>>
>>221631229
Berman was a fantastic television producer but a god awful film producer. He deserves much of the accolades for the post Roddenberry era in general, both the failures loans successes of DS9 and VOY are because of that. Holding writers accountable for the voice of the series made them better, and as you saw when they’re left to nothing but their own voices they either come of as pale copies or faggy bitching. The concept of real producers or editors are dead in Hollywood today, they’re all just shitty writers hoping that their political messaging can make up for the lacking plot and dialogue

It’s kind of interesting that Picard friend was more than willing to take advantage of his PTSD from the Borg to try and get him to work on project Atlantis. Because honestly what chance would earth based programs have of acquiring talent when the whole galaxy can be a play ground for the best and brightest?
>>
>>221631655
Why is he taking advantage? maybe he is just looking out for his friend and doesn't think he needs to be running around the galaxy risking his life all the time anymore
>>
>>221631716
Anon this is literally the only episode of TNG that actively tries to account for the trauma of the events of the previous episode. I hear you that their isn’t an active nefarious intent behind the guys action, he’s just passionate about the project he’s working on and knows that a leader like Picard would be the perfect man to actually get things done. But it makes so much sense thematically that after Picard dealt with trauma from the unknown of space that he’d try to find comfort in the deepest part of home possible (they say as much in the episode)

But honestly how would earth based projects like that find real talent? How can you incentivize people to work in the depths of the sea without a monetary compensation?
>>
>>221622653
Nothing. He’s perfect. I could listen to that gentle and understanding voice all day. He oozes charisma and he’s more nuanced and interesting than people give him credit for. He had no ideological disagreement with Starfleet, he loved Starfleet, he only joined the Marquis because the Cardassians killed his dad and took over his home colony. Getting zapped to the delta quadrant was the best thing that ever happened to him because it allowed him to be a starfleet officer again and that’s why he fit into his new role as first officer so smoothly and easily. As for his akoocheemoya tendencies that’s also explained. He didn’t care about any of that stuff when his dad was trying to teach it to him, but after his dad was murdered it became important to him but he only half remembered it and improvised the rest. >Akoocheemoya, sex with Chakotay.
Also, he could’ve pulled Janeway when they were stranded on that planet for a couple months but he was too much of a gentleman to push.
>>
>>221631166
yes it is the same actor
>>
>>221631796
the same way starfleet or other megaprojects do? Why would exploring the deep sea and facing unsolved engineering challenges to grow from be any different than exploring space? I like science fiction as much as the next guy but you wouldn't find me volunteering to board a starship to explore strange new worlds, I find this one to be a charming home and a great place to use my skills on to improve.

Do you remember when it seemed like the collective IQ of this entire site felt like it plummeted during the pandemic?
Like things were annoying when nutrek started but you could still reason with people and they'd shamefully admit they were only watching because they had to know how bad it was.
I'd say things really nosedived during 2020. At the time it seemed like we were being flooded by fucking retards but I'm pretty sure that's when the early bots were implemented, that's when it feels like the spirit that kept this place alive and interesting disappeared and it was replaced with mindless nonsense. Maybe instead of being a band of pirates who intentionally avoided social media platforms we became an internet hangout place for a generation of chronically online, uninteresting losers who had the best years of their lives ruined with paranoia and social distancing so they don't believe in other people or themselves and just fucking exist to consume.
I mean shit man, just look at /trek/, you guys used to debate the validity of different economic philosophies, some memes now and then, you had posters like Bashirfaggot and a whole community. Now it's just this gay ass 'star trek sex with ___' and nutrek webm spam.

I remember my younger brother, when he was around 9 years old, reacting to our youngest sister, 8, who seemed to make a habit of crying pitifully over anything and everything that she didn't like. Having had enough, I watched him as his face turned red, his body stiffened, both his hands gripping his butt cheeks to keep himself from swinging at her, and with the veins in his neck popping out, screamed right in her face at the top of his voice, STOP CRYING!!!

Your post reminded me of that for some reason.

You can look in the archive and chart this guy's activity by the webms and the file names etc and it's clear that he is clocking 12 hour days of NuTrek webm spam

You can do anything on this Earth if you are willing to devote 12 hours a day to it. This guy could be a classically trained cellist if he put as much effort into that as he has spamming webms on a Vietnamese basketweaving forum. Think about that.
Sure, you can """win""" if you're willing to put in 12 hour days but at what cost? Making it your whole existence on this Earth?

At the end of the day we just need to sit back and be in awe of this specimen because it's incredibly how much of a fucking loser this dude is if you think about it objectively and how much he is giving up to do this so much and so consistently. all of the experiences he is missing out on, because he got mad online about something completely irrelevant.

It came out right in the middle of the pandemic which had already fried everyone's brains. First they were posting it "ironically". Then people mistook it for genuine posting and joined in. Then they knew it was annoying so they started posting it harder. Then those people posted other nuTrek "ironically". Then... you get the point.

They never should have dropped the Maquis. They're s great concept. They stumbled on some parts with them, but the core element of the federation splitting and not just folding to Cardassians is a good idea. Could have been extended to Romulans and many others. Voyager gave them the out of not worrying about territory, but yea, I liked the Maquis.

>One striking pattern in *Star Trek: The Next Generation* is how often violations against Deanna Troi occur without corresponding legal or moral accountability. Whether through psychic assault, non-consensual impregnation, or telepathic intrusion, the perpetrators frequently escape ordinary justice: one dies after completing its purpose, another is killed for unrelated reasons as the story's principal villain, and others simply perish before facing any tribunal. Only Jev, the Ullian telepath from "Violations," is explicitly exposed and arrested for his crimes. The result is an odd narrative asymmetry: Troi is repeatedly cast as the victim of deeply personal violations, yet the series seldom treats those violations as crimes demanding justice, instead resolving them through death, disappearance, or narrative convenience rather than accountability.
>>
>>221648430

>**Silaran:** Don't you feel guilty? Don't you feel ashamed of what you did?

>**Major Kira:** None of you belonged on Bajor. It wasn't your world. For fifty years you raped our women. You used their bodies the way you used our cities and our fields—as something to occupy, exploit, and leave broken. I don't care whether you wore a uniform or kept house for the occupation. You were all guilty, and you were all legitimate targets.

>**Silaran:** And that's what makes you a rapist. You decided that because they were Cardassian women, their bodies were yours to use. You told yourself they were all guilty, all legitimate targets. No sense of morality, no thought for the innocent, only the certainty that their suffering served your cause. That's what makes us different.

Was Kira right to rape Cardassian civilians? Personally, I think she went too far.

After finishing DS9, I decided to start VOY to see about all those "Insaneway" memes.

After finishing season 1, I must say, it's rather better than I expected. From what I heard, most of the crew was horrible, the episodes were dumb, and the story was nonexistant.

But so far, it's been nice. I'll admit that certain characters are kind of...mediocre. I don't much feel strongly about Kim or Paris or Chakotay or B'elana or Kess. I don't *dislike* them, I just don't really feel strongly about them. On the other hand, Janeway is pretty fun, Tuvok is an absolutely based sperg, Neelix is decently amusing, and the Doctor is great.

Certainly, none of them seem to be as fun as Quark or Odo or O'Brien or Garak, but I will reserve my judgement for later seasons. I've also heard that the "best" character has yet to be introduced, so we'll see about that.

Using a seasoned temporal agent character to welcome and debrief a crew that just travelled to a new century makes sense to me. He's the one who can establish that the temporal cold war has ended and that the Mirror Universe is now too far removed for Georgiou to cross back, setting up the rules for this far future that would be hard to explain if any important figure born in that future knew about them in such detail. Wish it'd been Braxton or even Ducane but Daniels works too and Cronenberg plays him well imho.
