I like old punk - dead kennedies, wipers, the clash, heaps of "post-punk" etc....

But sex pistols suck.

sex pistols is the only punk band that matters

Lydon is one of the only true punks who ever lived. PiL is pretty good too.

their music is good for classic punk, but nothing great; however, it's their attitude and essence that made them legends. nobody before did it like the pistols, and everyone after used them as inspiration

Siouxsie and Severin were in the background in that interview btw, and ended up mogging the Sex Pistols hard

I dived into punk a little only in the last couple of years, and even all those decades later no band comes close to the kind of presence Johnny and the Pistols had. Johnny has great vocals but aside from that the music is shockingly mid, pretty much any other punk band that people have heard of blows them out of the water, but man seeing actual footage of them performing and hearing those crazy growls from Johnny, they had some kind of power man. It almost scares me, it makes me feel like I'm the old man complaining about those crazy youngsters getting out of hand or something (idk if that makes sense)

favorite groups?

Idk I'm more of a post-punk/classic rock guy, but I like Buzzcocks, The Stooges and Siouxsie And The Banshees (they had a bunch of straight up punk songs in their early years). I listened to Rock The Casbah by The Clash like 10 times today, but I don't care for their earlier stuff that still sounds like actual punk rock

you'd probably like Ramones and MC5 if you haven't already listened to them. I'd also recommend Black Flag, Stiff Little Fingers, Dead Kennedys, and Descendants, though some might be a little too hard for you. I'm not as well versed in post-punk, but Television and Wire are good

Sex Pistols had the best songwriting out of any punk group in music history.

I fucking love MC5. I happened to come across some Dead Kennedy's today and liked it but wasn't in the mood for stuff that heavy and aggressive (I'm kind of sick). Thanks for the recs bro.

Is being a "true punk" even that respectable? It just boils down to being an edgy contrarian really, it gets old and stupid pretty fast
>>
>>221628967
First 3 PiL albums are goated post punk

>tells a 16 year old girl that he's going to bone her backstage
He really was a dirty old fucker, it's funny how if you'd air this now everyone would think Steve Jones was a hero for saying this but I guess back then saying "fuck" was a a bigger deal than being a big fucking strokey nonce live on national TV

The Sex Pistols are on tour now with some random guy replacing Johnny Rotten kek

You're a massive poser
