Well, on a different note, I just watched The Carpenter's Son (2025). It was fine I guess, mostly a Witch copycat, right down to color grading. Towards the end, I couldn't see a damn thing. Nick Cage is trying too hard to be serious that it comes off as corny. The best thing about it honestly was the girl playing Satan. She gave a really good performance and made what's usually a stock character feel like they had a surprising amount of depth without compromising on being unequivocally evil still. She's supposed to play Joan of Arc in Baz Luhrmann's movie. As much as I hate his flicks, I might have to watch that one. Anyway, this is the first "Biblical Horror" thing I've ever seen, set in bible times and drawing from apocryphal gospel. Are there other things like it?

I can only speak for myself, but watching older horror films is more "disconnected"? Like the acting is hammy, the effects are clearly fake, and the cinematography is more surreal, so it feels more like a story, whereas modern films are far more realistic in every regard and feels more personable and grotesque in a bad way.
>>
>>221657976

C.H.U.D. is actually an excellent and atmospheric horror movie. Feel sweaty and grimey just watching it. Shame no one knows where the buzzword came from.

>>

Retard
>>
>>221658789
it came from the chapo podcast calling people chuds as a reference to the movie. one of them is a big movie fan, they did an livescreening of reanimator with Brian Yuzna.
>>
>>221658889
didn't know podcasts existed all the way back in the 90s
>>
>>221658831
It started as a slur, being a portmantau of Chad and dud, meaning a person who thinks they're an alpha but aren't. Then it got taken as a badge of honor and redefined to mean based. That there is an old movie with a similar title is coincidence and bears no relevance to the term or its history
>>
People have been using chud as an insult since the early 2000s
>>
>>221658906
it started out with the movie, then fans would jokingly call people they didn't like chuds then the 2010s came and the rick and morty episode brought the term back to public consciousness and people started using it derogatorily for rightoids

It's a made up connection. What does the movie have to do with the term? You skipped from "people who like the movie called other people chuds" (unverified) to "chud became right-wingers" with no logical leap.
That versus the obvious connection of reddit think-tanks attempting to create an insult out of the Chad meme and coming up with chud.
>>
>>221659039
if the movie hadn't existed the word wouldn't haven't had existed either, how can you not understand this
>>
Chuds are the opposite of Chads. Chuds love Citizen Vigilante. Chads love The Furious.

>>221659055
Chad + dud = chud. Do you really think that one-syllable word could never have existed if not for a relatively obscure 80s horror flick? There's nothing from the movie that could be likened to the phrase. The movie's title is even an acronym, while the word isn't. You've read sone bullshit on wikipedia and gobbled it up.
>>
>>221659148
you are making up an etymology that never existed
>>
I'm just mad because I got tickets for a Thursday night show of Evil Dead Burn specifically to avoid spoilers but then I overslept. Oh well, by noon today I'll have seen it. I always go Thursday night but fucked up this time and it was the one time all you chuddies went early too.
>>
>>221658992
I enjoyed it. What is the problem?
>>
>>221659164
You're accepting an etymology you read from dubious sources online instead of having lived through the period when the term became popular
>>
Theres nothing to spoil ngl it has no story really
>>
>>221659039
>"people who like the movie called other people chuds" (unverified)
https://soundcloud.com/chapo-trap-house/episode-118-from-russia-with-chud-feat-sarah-jones-61817
This is from 2017 when they had made it enough of a podcast injoke to add it to the title. Before the poljak shooter even did his Walmart rampage.
>>
>>221659211
Given the popularity of the term, yiu think the people using it were all big Chapo Trap House fans? Fiest it was fans of the movie, now it's fans if this podcast no one has ever heard of, and that was supposed to take the internet by storm.

Anybody can publish anything online now and that becomes accepted fact with no questions
>>
This guy's going to argue with you over whether the sky's blue or not. It's from the podcast, argument over.
>>
>>221659195
dubious sources?
the semantics fit the movie better than the "chad/dud" shit you just pulled out of your ass
and no one used dud so there's no reason someone would combine chad and dud to make chud
>>
>>221659283
Says who? They said it on a podcast once. Did this podcast invent the word "the" as well? Fucking lemming chud sheep
>>
>>221659256
>yiu think the people using it were all big Chapo Trap House fans?
It grew from their subreddit which had 100k+ subscribers before it was banned, also leftoid twitter.
>this podcast no one has ever heard of
Ah so the source of your problem is not actually knowing common internet knowledge.

Currently prepending the eventual return of autumn with this little number.
Small budget, small cast, limited set location, thoroughly meh in most regards.
The scoring is decent enough, and the sense of dread and build ups and shit are pretty good I guess.
Still though I prefer a bigger cast, a less claustrophobic more expansive world, and more antics and comic relief elements to juxtapose and contrast the horror element.

Just finished. I don't drink anymore but this would've been a good drunk movie. Dynamite fishing wakes up a lake monster that is apparently part fish, part mosquito, made of rock, from the ice age, and mates with human females. So little action, it's mostly people standing in labs and police stations throwing technical gibberish at each other. Makes a point of highlighting its geriatric romance that goes nowhere. Aldo Ray is great as always.
>>
>>221661664
They put off showing the monster as much as possible. This is 95% of its appearance in the movie and it's the climax, believe it or not, next thing that happens is it gets it by a car, the end

Watched this the other day. Was expecting some kind of Slender Man knockoff but turns out it was actually demonic possession. I was actually kind of getting into it until the end, or rather the lack of one. The movie just stops. There is no real climax, no answers or resolution, just a very unsatisfying hard stop. just because the nudity is real doesn't explain why fictional depictions of torture, dismemberment, beheadings and other extreme violence is considered more acceptable than seeing a naked body.

also, if "it's real" is the standard then lots of things in film are suddenly an issue. actors really kiss, really cry, really consume alcohol, really perform dangerous stunts and sometimes really get injured or even killed during production. we have never judged whether something is acceptable to be shown on film solely by whether some aspect of it is "real".

Because they are fake. A story of artistic merit can involve violence without anybody being hurt in the telling. It can involve nudity too, as a plot point, and it can be implied effectively without any actor or actress being actually nude or at least without having their nudity filmed and broadcast to an audience.

>They said it on a podcast once.

It was a running joke on the podcast. And that podcast also had a relationship with other podcasts like Cumtown and Red Scare so it spread to those, to various guests, and of course among fans. These were the so-called "dirtbag left" labeled podcasts of the time, with fans that saw themselves as edgy and clever alternatives to typical Democrats.

I watched the Last Drive-In episode of Train to Busan, and that movie is now easily in my top five favorite zombie movies. All the spectacle of something like Dawn of the Dead ‘04, but nailing all the emotional beats too.

Is the sequel “Peninsula” really THAT bad? Even Joe Bob kind of politely shit on it, saying that it had none of the heart of the original, but I wouldn’t expect them to make lightning strike twice. I’m pretty sure it’s the same director, so it should at least look good and have decent set pieces.
>>
>>221667239
>Is the sequel “Peninsula” really THAT bad?
I didn't think so, I liked it. It's not close to Train To Busan in quality though, which is why I think it gets so much hate.
>>
>>
>>221667239
One thing that irked me is that it wasn't consistent about how dangerous the zombies were. In one scene, they can wipe out a squad of armed soldiers essily, while in another the protagonists can punch their way through a whole train full of them with relative ease
>>
>>221667452
You mean Ma Dong-seok's character? That's just what he does in most of his movies and it's awesome every single time.
>>
>>221667534
Still, it makes it hard to gauge how much of a threat the zombies pose and how they could have taken over the way they did
>>
>>221667569
Isn't that pretty much all zombie movies? Even NOTLD went from them being a huge danger to just running past them with ease.
>>
>>221667664
In NOTLD they went from being an uncertain danger to then understanding their limitations. In Busan, they show the zombies having practically no limitations first, then limit them later in a way that doesn't make sense
