>>221694530For me it's Onibaba
>>221694643I don't get the AoD love. I liked the movie, but I don't understand why everyone seems to think it's great. It's above average IMO.
Just finished. A huge pile of nothing. A couple go on their honeymoon, which is to a dusty patch of grass in a caravan, then bicker for a half hour. One of their hamsters eats the other one. They run out of water and bicker about that for a half hour. The girl thinks they're being watched. Turns out they are! Michael J Pollard and his geriatric girlfriend live in a house nearby. Mike breaks into their caravan and the wife hits him with an iron. The climax is in a basement where a blind woman in a wheelchair holds them at the end of a shotgun! They get it away from her and shoot her in the back as she falls down some stairs! Very bad.

>a friend who has loved every single Evil Dead so far hated the new one and was especially pissed by the after-credits sceneshit doesn't bode well
>>221695618>It gotta be a cheap showI don't think so. I followed Ancient Aliens because I was fascinated with how they tried to "scientifically" justify some obvious bullshit. It's true they mostly film interviews with their own set of "experts". But there's some legitimate and known professors among them. Also they paid for shoots on location in Europe, Pacific islands, South America and Asia. Go watch a show when you get the opportunity, if only for 5 minutes. It absolutely does not look cheap, it looks slick and professional and state of the art. The end credits list some 120 people working on the show. That's not a small and cheap outfit.
>>221695917oh, did he say it was too mean spirited?
>>221695824it's funkino and directed by a former catholic priest assistant, I'm tired of catholics being the bad guys in korean films

Finally rewatched Blair Witch 2. Remembered it being surprisingly fun and having a good twist. It's fun cause the script and performances are really good for the characters. The twist is actually sad cause they're all likeable. Mixed reccomendation. Sry for blog post.

>>221697652probably not but ill check it anyway, i heard its just new french extremity tier grimdark violence, but what i like about 2013 and original is the slapstick element of the violence, like the characters are suffering so retardedly much you just have to laugh a little after a certain point. and you can tell Raimi and Alvarez are just having a laugh behind the camera at the characters. picrel is a gigachad and a tank, he took the biggest beatdown of the entire franchise.

>>221696417I liked Burn, but that after credits scene really stunk. We didn't need the mom from Rise to come back when she was torn to shreds and every evil spirit from that apartment jumped into that one chick who haunted the lake.

>>221700668Genuinely one of the worst movies I’ve ever seen. I think as a society we should bring back acting classes and not put our money into shock value/bad CGI and really focus on the script and the actors ability to perform…. Also this movie was just? Mean spirited? Like there was no reason for it to be made or for the dog to die 3 times.
>>221700668to be honest didnt watch the full movie after the scene with the cute dog :( so my review isnt very fair, but that was awful and mean and i cried so hard i had to leave i hate that why would you ever do that or make that when i find out whos idea it was im gonna fuck you up, if deadites cant just target bad people and has to go for everyone then cool fine whatever but why do you have to hurt an animal, thats some pussy shit i wouldnt let slide personally.... this was too tryhard at an attempt to be scary and it was more mean and sad and cruel, also yes i know it's not real i just dont like seeing it or the fact that someone even came up with that im just a dog mom until i die u feel me. idk i felt this one crush my heart and soul and i will never rewatch this again, this was the worst one out of all the new evil dead movies for me and it was literally only because of that, i can only hope that evil dead wrath is better but my chances of watching the new one are slim, im gonna have to spoil it for myself beforehand if i do ever decide to watch it
>>221700740>>221700809I don't know if I'm being trolled with letterboxd reviews or not anymore
>>221700668Rise is a lot more marketable with Evil Mommy theme + has some humor, while Burn is extremely mean spirited and that highly turns normalfags off like with Bring Her Back or the fact a dog dies multiples time in BurnI found 2013 ED quite good while Rise was boring as fuck since it was too contained in the apartment, Demons II does the same plot a lot better since at least it takes place in multiple places of the apartment complex
>>221700094..?
Any anons watch this? Was it any good?
>>221700960But in 2013 the dog dies too and normalfags keep saying its the best one.
>>221700960>since it was too contained in the apartmentliterally what the fuck are you on about. so much of the dread is being in a confined space with deadites. apartments are a peak horror environment. >>221701003please ask this quesiton again when you can find a picture with higher resolution
I just got back from Evil Dead Rise and I wasn't really into it. What do people mean though when they say a horror movie is/isn't mean spirited? I don't keep up with the discourse much.
>>221700928"Evil Dead Burn" stands as a great entry in a franchise that refuses to limp. The violence delivers, the humor connects, and the Deadites feel more merciless here than in any prior entry. One choice holds it back from a perfect score, and that same choice will probably keep some people away from viewing it altogether.Anyone sensitive to animal violence onscreen should skip this one. The rest of the film earns its ticket price, and the fight scenes alone justify a big-screen viewing for franchise fans with strong stomachs. That single scene, though, killed any desire for a near-term rewatch. A film this well made should send its audience out hungry for a second viewing. This one sent me out relieved to walk away.
>>221701039A "mean-spirited" horror usually has particularly cruel/painful/drawn-out deaths, especially on innocent/kind characters.
>>221701070Samefag here, a mean-spirited example would be Danny Trejo's death in Rob Zombie's Halloween.

Just finished. Complete joke of a movie. 8 people get invited to a hotel and have to face their greatest fears. Last one standing gets a million bucks. Their greatest fears are stuff like a snake in the swimming pool, a tarantula in their soup, a rubber hand puppet popping out of their sheets. At the end the plot makes so little sense that the narrator himself complains about it. A little bit of nice nudity but nothing to write home about.

Pretty weird that Terrifier went from a sub-cult-classic b-movie to inexplicably getting a hugely marketed sequel/franchise 8 years later. Anybody ever explain that?
>>221703734well his film cost over a million dollars. idk if that's still indie.

>started watching thisdoes anything actually happen or am i wasting my time
>>221703896Yeah, Terrifier 2 was crowdfunded either there or on Indiegogo. Not for large amounts of money either, I think it topped out around 400k max? It just caught on like wildfire because people saw or told their friends about this really crazy indie horror film they caught on Netflix or Tubi with the first time or All Hallows Eve, they then found out there's a sequel coming out that's being screened at their local kinoplex and paid to see it, they then bragged to their friends about seeing this fucked up horror movie at the theatres, and then it grew into this million dollar IP that now has skins in Call of Duty. It is the rare indie success story everyone dreams about, regardless of whether you think the films are great or not.
>>221704639I hate Terrifier 2 and I think the success it saw couldn't have happened to a worse director. All Hallows' Eve and Terrifier 1 are good for what they are though. T3 sucks too outside of the gore. Leone needs to hire a writer and an assistant director and just focus more on his effects work
>>221704752I think Terrifier 2 being a modest success was perfectly fine, it had a budget of $250k that gained about $15 million or so at the box office. That said I can't disagree with what you're saying, because his movies badly need an editor to trim down the narratives to something at least 90 minutes tops in length. And while he has gotten better between T2 and 3 in terms of filmmaking, he does need more help considering his films are now actually costing millions to make.

>>221706792it wasn't even around for a good 15 years, it was a long time before the vhs going out of print and the dvd release, and it was still under the radar for a good while. first time I ever saw the movie I'd never even heard of it. it was around the time people were finally starting to pay attention because of Tarantino, lol
>>221706768alright, just finished. that was kinda great. I've seen the other two versions (and Cute Devil) but don't remember them that well, this one did a great job of making you empathize with the mom who discovers her daughter is evil and genuinely blames herself (thanks to a cool twist) and doesn't know what to do about it. Kind of a grim concept, lmao. David Carradine is such a shit actor, I love him.
>>221707010>finally starting to pay attention to Fulci because of Tarantino, wtf
>>221707010>>221707107uh, what?
bleh!
>>221701062what the fuck am i readingi saw the whole movie, im so desensitized that i was mostly flat with the dog scene/sthe movie is simply dogshit and best word to describe it is "apathetic" then "heckin mean-spirited"the whole grief thing was corny and lame, i couldnt connect to any of the charactersonly the dementic grandma was something i mildly enjoyed, the rest was just awfulWORSE than Rise, and Rise was something I said will never in my life ever rewatch even if im a evil dead fan
>>221697634I wish i could see this movie for the first time again
>>221708106I think it's just so devoid of quality the best anyone can do is post goofy reviews like that to say "see dude it's so BRUTAL these normies can't handle it!"
>>221708183This one just blows, and the CGI final boss was atrociousAnd no matter how much Rise gets shitcanned (rightfully so), at the very least I could feel some of that charm that the Raimi's ones hadAlso, best title card in the series by far
>watching some 70/80s scifi horror>the "distant future" they were predicting already happened decades ago
>>221708266Soilent Green is eerily accurate. it's set in 2022 as well.
>>221708106I dont get the hate for rise. It's the weakest in the franchise (didnt see burn) but it's still a fine horror movie
>>221708106>>221708183>>221708261nah burn is better than rise. the only really negative thing about it is the last 10 minutes cgi monstermovie kept going without breaks and it has the best action sequences in the entire franchise >but i couldnt connect to le heckin charactersthat applies to every character in ED that isnt ash
>>221708294Because just like Burn, it's not an Evil Dead movieYou could've call it "My Mom the Devil" and it would've had 6/10 scores, but bc it's part of the very much beloved franchise, people are coping by pretending it's 7.5/10 *at minimum* and that franchise will never have bad movies, just like the copium around the Scream movies with its latest entryBut ok Rise wasn't bad, just mediocre and boring Burn was just bad, not awfully bad, but definitely below average
>>221708375Unironically, it has no soul
>>221708294It was one of only a handful of horror franchises that was the brainchild and handiwork of a specific creative team, and many people couldn't imagine what Evil Dead without Raimi directing and Campbell starring would be, and some can't accept the new movies as "being Evil Dead" because they're missing them. "Evil Dead" now just means gore and a mean sense of humor, lol.
>>221708393not an argument. i liked the camera work a lot
what if ruingu but phone
>>221703017Lmao
I sent Alyssa Sutherland a DM on instagram telling her that I love her.Fingers crossed :-)
>>221710014literally me except the call is about my ER debt getting sent to collections
>>221706284There's also a sequel to the 2018 version.
>>221711756Did you call her Mommy?
Just saw the FoD reboot on Shudder and I thought it was okay. Adequately put together and acted for the sort of production it is, though not as brutal as I was really expecting going into it considering the Fangoria's magazine covers were apparently censored to promote it. Also thought it was weird that that they bragged about getting this "Chali XCX" chick, I thought she'd be the protagonist but instead she's more of a glorified cameo with only two minor scenes. Just a simple techno-thriller that occasionally has some good gore, nothing memorable but I didn't hate it either, just weird that Legendary Pictures worked on a pseudo-reboot/meta take on a franchise known basically as a mostly fake-death documentary.I wonder if the writer likes to lurk here to shitpost and how many other people in showbiz also do the same thing. Just the fact that the in-universe moderation service is called Kino and the villain goes "You are such a little cuck, [Protagonist], how dumb are you?" feels a little on the nose.
>>221712368No I'm a cornball so it was more just telling her I love her and the cameo at the end of Evil Dead Burn was cool>>221712487I grew up on Rotten.com, Ogrish, Faces/Traces of Death and mid 2000s 4chan retardation. I remember that movie not hitting the way it should've. Maybe I should rewatch because I feel like I missed something.
Horror movies where sex did not equal death for either one?
>>221712571I dont think this film would benefit much from repeat viewings, it is what it is. It oddly feels like it played things too safe, probably because a big studio like Legendary was too scared of putting out something too graphic under their name.
>>221699576Did you try searching on btdig.com? might need a german vpn/proxy (or any country that might work) though as it's blocked in a lot of countries,Basically a torrent trashcan.
How does it just keep getting worse? How do they do it? Episode 18. So basically 2 seasons left.I have no idea what the fuck they are doing. Yeah Maggie is hot, has been since Supernatural. And Boondock Saints guy still has a cool crossbow. What?
>Industrial Punk Horror Essentialsoh that sounds cool, lets check out this short one>chick puking for 5 minutesalrighty
>>221713214The problems with tv-series imo, is that they only have a beginning and middle part (barely) figured out but not the ending (unlike movies). If it doesn't get viewers it gets cancelled and get no ending. If it gets a lot of viewers they will only extend it to the point people stop watching, also not getting an ending at all or a very shitty one, due to the middle part being changed over and over.
>>221713278>>chick puking for 5 minutesjust like my JAV flix I like to watchI've been on 4chan long enough to know that "Gero" means vomit in nippon.Shozin Fukui was a goddamn legend though. He made nothing but great movies and shorts. Literally all great. We just lost him the other month and you just reminded me.
>>221713428Do you know what Gerogerigegege means?
>>221713730nta, but it means you're a goat-tier noisecore band.
>>221713730No, but I love the band. Total legends.
>>221713785>>221713805Here is a visual representation of what it means. And i agree, funniest noisecore band of all time.
>>221713864Lol forgot pic, i am a bit tipsy. One two three four
Are creepy serial killers horror? So far a mass murder 30 years ago, an abducted girl that is assumed dead (body was never found), and a mother whose hand was amputated before she was beaten to death. The murderer leaves creepy chestnut men at the crime scene.
>>221714246Is it a slasher, psychological thriller or a crime drama?
I figured it would be a pic of naked Gero 30 having violent sex with a vacuumcleaner on stage.See, that's real music.>>221714246Is that a remake of that Kastanjemannen show anon mentioned being good? I'm Swedish so if you show me anything Danish I'm spitting in your face on pure reflex. But maybe it's good....
>>221714317I've seen the 1st of 6 episodes and it's definitely no slasher or gore series, so far it's crime drama, but it gets creepy so I'd say it will probably turn into a psychological thriller. Google recommended it to me when I asked about horror miniseries. IMDb says it's a psychological thriller.>>221714359I don't know about any remake, I'm watching a Danish miniseries with subtitles. I watched a Swedish one before (Springfloden, 10 episodes), and Kastanjemanden only has 6 episodes, so that's an advantage.
>>221714359>I'm Swedish so if you show me anything Danish I'm spitting in your face on pure reflexDet enda rätta. Danskjävlar...
>>221714397I see. I will check it out. I forgot to add giallo, but since it's not Italian it might not matter.
>>221714408>Danskjävlar
>>221714496So true.Pic is related.
>>221714246So The Snowman but innawoods?
>>221714906>The SnowmanHaven't seen that, but it's also Skandinavian.
>>221714906>>221715132I still can't believe this is a real poster and not a meme image
>>221715224>Detective Harry HoleThat movie has to be shit, right?
>>221715299IMDb says it was a rushed, unfinished production, filming on location was cut short. 5.2/10 stars. Apparently Harry Hole is a real thing and author Jo Nesbø's trademark detective. He's played by Michael Fassbender.
>>221712487I saw it in theaters and enjoyed it for what it was. Felt that Dacre's performance made the movie
watched The Snowman twice because first time I couldn't believe how retarded it was. From the director of Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy and the og Let the Right One In.This is a joke right? It's a scam movie or something. Money laundering?Nope. It's just so bad. You all should watch it.
>>221715589It said they didn't even shoot 85% of the script and the editors were left with the thankless task to put something together with the material they had available that didn't make any sense as a finished film.I found with Skandinavian crime stories it's best to watch the Danish/Swedish/Norwegian TV production, even if that means reading subtitles. They're usually European co-productions with additional money from other bigger countries like Germany so there's a polished and finished film/series at the end.
>>221715918>other bigger countries like GermanyWhy there is always at least one dubbed German in every Scandinavian tv-shows.
>>221715589u just got snowman'dtwice!
>>221716052I've seen the Logo of the German TV channel ZDF on the end credits of "Springfloden", but I've never seen the show being run on German TV. It's a mystery to me why they produced it. Maybe to re-sell it to other markets? ZDF is financed by compulsory German TV fees, so it's no pay TV like Netflix. (Kastanjemanden is a Netflix show, which is why I didn't see it when it came out, I don't have a subscription.)
>>221716261Many of the Scandi crime shows are huge in Germany. The Beck movie series is infamous for having at least one German in every movie. But it's probably true when it comes to tv series as well.
Are we in Germanic hours right now?
>>221716330Yes, I know Beck and Wallander. There's a popular genre in Germany called "Schwedenkrimi" (Swedish crime stories), I think it's been popular at least since the 1980s. Sometimes we also get stories from Denmark and Norway, but I think most productions are Swedish because they have a larger population. Bron/Broen was popular a few years ago, and unfortunately I missed it and had to watch a downloaded version with original sound and subtitles. But it was interesting. You pick up words and phrases that are mentioned frequently.
>>221715589can someone put the puppy webm of The Snowman? I laugh my ass off always about the editing. Imagine a movie so bad that not even Thelma Schoonmaker editor can save it
>>221694643>>221694724I don't get the love for 2013 outside of Jane Levy being cute. Better than the original? Hell no
Bump
I'm hearing that the new Evil Dead does the thing that I found so lame in the last one (obviously setting up elements that will come back into play later) but even more obnoxiously.
>>221716704>>221716704>>221716704>>221716704>>221716704>>221716704>>221716704
>>221716494Ah yes, Wallander, forgot about that one.>SchwedenkrimiLol, sounds fun. There is a lot of similarities between German and Swedish, so it makes sense you pick up words.Imo the best ones that learn Swedish as an adult are Germans (with the exception of Danes, Norwegians and Finns).Unrelated but do you know the name of the German helicopter action/drama tv series? It aired on TV here in Sweden in the 90s.I think a lot of the Swedish criminal dramas also get exported to the UK.
>>221716852>German helicopter action/drama tv series?Medicopter 117? Der Clown?
>>221717001Hmm, maybe, i will do some digging. If i remember correctly it was one of those military helicopters and some bad ass flying it. Kinda like the German A-team but with one guy.The show itself might have been from the 80s.
