I dont think i care to see it even for free. Obsession was amazing and made waves, Backrooms seems like a fart that zoomers only cared for for brainrot nostalgia
Just finished it.It was ok. I like it conceptually more than Obsession but Obsession was easier to watch through for some reason.I really like the '90s feeling environments and set design, it was on point. We had the exact same Panasonic fax machine that the doctor had so seeing that unlocked some memories.Main actress is distractingly hot.

Why is there a black guy in this movie? I don't remember that from the original post.
Now that I've seen all the major movies released this year so far: Hokum, The Sheep Detectives, Obsession and Backrooms I can safely rank them thusly:The Sheep Detectives = Backrooms > Obsession = HokumBackrooms is a sleeper hit. The more I think about it the more I get it and the more I like it.
How do you respond without sounding mad?
>>221748226Is that a yellow corridor?I'm losing my mind!How scary!
Just finished watching. It was a lot more goofy then I expected. Way more goofy then any of kane's youtube videos. I don't know if they felt the need to make the movie was more crazy but it was good for like the first 30 minutes then just went off the deep end. Black guy goes crazy way too fast. And the whole "le layers of memory metaphor" for the backrooms wasn't impressive to me. I would've rather seen a 2 hour long movie of async just exploring the rooms. I don't remember which video I saw on kane's channel but there was one where you only saw a tiny bit of the monster then barely saw it again and that was scarier then all this
i blame clark for not noticing that he didn't need therapy, but i also recognize that the film puts him in a position where the only thing that can save him is the backrooms, what's it with new films putting men in impossible situations and expecting them to make a miracle then blaming them if they don't, fucking normies can't seem to be able to use critical thinking to understand this propaganda, not to mention the fact that women in these films always seem to escape or get away
>>221747712You didn't mention the race of the actors. I won't be watching this, OP.
>>221755793>i blame clark for not noticing that he didn't need therapy,I'm sorry, what exactly did he need therapy for? According to the movie he did in fact pay the bills and his fat bitch wife wasn't contributing to the house he paid for? I wish the movie had the balls to just say what it really wanted to say. Therapy is feminist brainwashing designed to make men realize they are always the problem no matter what. >DUDE HE KNOCKED OVER A GLASS AFTER LITERALLY WORKING ALL DAY TO PAY THE BILLS HE'S LE HECKIN VILOENT MEN ARE LE EVIL AND NEED THERAPY! Pic related, what I wish clark wouldv'e done to mary
>>221755755I was also hoping for more POV stuff. At least It would've been an interesting experiment to see how it was received.and holy shit did they go crazy on the lore, not just on how weird it got but trying to explain so much of it as well

Did Mary give off femcel vibes to anyone else?
>>221755920She's flirting with her patient so no.
This movie makes me miss having framed photographs around the house
This movie ended up as an unintentional adaptation of Lovecraft's Pickman's Model.>>221755856>>221755793I think we can infer from subtext that maybe his therapy sessions weren't voluntary but court mandated, as ordered by a judge in his break-up with his wife, the same decision that led to her taking his house.I also think it's a mistake to read his character as a villain. Both him and the psychiatrist lady are clearly depicted as unfair victims of trauma.>>221755755I liked the memories thing because it thematically ties in to the whole idea of nostalgia and longing for the past which is a core aspect of the Backrooms (and liminal spaces in general). It's the whole deal with how the '80s and '90s (or your preferred past) are idealized as the perfect time in history. Every millennial wants to go back and relive that period in time, and immerse themselves in the past just like Clark wants to in order to escape the trauma of living.Great movie. I was already fully familiar with the concept of the Backrooms but I think it's a great decision to bring in trauma and nostalgia.
>>221756057did you read what i wrote, i don't think he's a villain, and i also don't think the woman is portrayed like a victim since she ultimately escapes, even though her fate is 50/50 while clark dies, the messaging is pure propaganda or just incompetent writing
>>221750100I liked watching it at the big movie screen with theater sound system.
>>221756074I know, but you were talking as if people think he's the villain or that he would be unjustly treated as one, but I think even the average feminist wouldn't consider him to be a villain. The woman is definitely also a victim. Her deal was intergenerational trauma. But the reason they have different outcomes was because she learns to let go of her trauma (smashing the physical symbol of the fond memory with her mother instead of hoarding it - accepting that her mother was flawed and no longer letting the toxic memory and love for her overshadow her life) whereas he can't let go of his trauma.
>>221756151for >>221756086
>>221756151are you new on 4chan, did you miss all the other backrooms threads villainising him, yes i know about the trauma, you also missed how it is women who get to escape these kinds of things in new films, you are literally not reading what i am writing, you are just replying for the sake of it

So I watched his YouTube series and loved his more streamlined approach to the backrooms in the shorts. The Backrooms basically devolved into what happened with SCP. Instead of millions of retarded monsters it's millions of retarded rooms.Where is all of the lore from the shorts in the film? There isn't shit about Async, or them building or having plans to develop the backrooms into infinte storage. Also all the rooms seem to be apart of some "memory" devolution or some shit? Like he's connected to them or something? Like why does every room have furniture? It all looks to clean and every room is the same. Is this the same world as the shorts? Anyways it was alright. Expected more rooms and entities, I mean the backrooms are supposed to be a portal to many different rooms and locations.

The only thing I'm unclear on is why the black guy's pirate doppelganger killed him, is it because the therapist finally gave him a reality check and the backrooms are a metaphor for not changing/wallowing in your own self-pity/etc? If so why didn't the therapist populate the backrooms with her own fucked up doppelganger, she clearly was still having difficulty letting go of the shit from her childhood. Felt odd that instead of having to reckon with her own demons in physical form she instead has a boss showdown again the black guy's demons (when he's already been killed, no less?)
>>221768132I think you need to have gone in at least for a while before it spawns them. Clark went in several times we are told, and by the end the therapist had one spawn.

The fact that the characters can enter and leave the backrooms at will completely defeats the mystery and fear of being "trapped" in there. They should've made it so they couldn't get out from the first time clark got in. They could've had it so async rescued him and he escaped and then decided to break into async again to go back in. >>221750100it's pretty alright. The therapy scenes suck, but the actual backrooms delivers on the liminal horror you'd expect.
This was a very good movie. It set up a conflict, resolved it, introduced a lot of mystery and an ambiguous ending that can go anywhere and there is a lot they can explore with next. It was the best universe starter movie I have seen in some time.

>>221772617kek
>>221755663I wish they took a different approach here. Not introduce that the therapist has issues too but have this sequence where the therapist is walking in the backrooms and slowly picks up its manifesting his trauma and try to solve his trauma and then help him. It was the first thing that crossed my mind when you have a therapist you see regularly walk into a real world manifestation of your brain. At the end of the day this woman could have been anything. Someone he cheated on his wife with. His store's manager. A bartender. They just needed to establish they spoke a lot. kinda fucked up how his employees who were goofy but loyal companions just die like that and he treats them like shit. Some of the shit that happened was out of touch for his mental state. He wasn't a deranged psycho just a man pushed too far failed by society.
>>221772718the literal monsters and the heckin science facility killed it.i think that's just how zoomers assume you HAVE to finish a horror story. i hate ambiguous endings but if it just ended with her ENTERING the Backrooms half an hour earlier in the film, 'here we go again...' i'd have been fine with that.

I think a major plot hole is that the place seems to copy and paste your fears in fucked up ways but it seems to have only done Clark. It's established that many people have been there so there should have been more symbolism. Like the guy at the start should have had a random throwaway line like "I fuck hate magicians" or something then an hour later you have a room that looks like a fucked up magicians stage.

>>22176221538 year old woman can still be hot but it's rare
>>221772887it was set in 1990.dude should have gone to the local newspaper. started selling tickets to get people in his store.
I would live in every location in this movie. The backrooms are comfy af.
I likd the found footage bits the most. I want Backrooms 2 to be at least 60% found footage
>>221750100It's mediocre. It's not a bad movie, but it's really overrated. It does however fall apart in the third act and feels really rushed, so it's fairly enjoyable up until that point.
>>221772856Dr Who did this.
>>221766513I bet down the line she does and she ends up working for async. Based on how it works not having a shrink who went through the backrooms and has her trauma imprinted on there seems retarded to kill her
>>221772856silent hill did this
>>221772953Same as a lot of other media. Even Duckman, a niche 90s cartoon, had an episode where he's stuck in his psyche and it's just some big old house with hallways to doors that contain his fears and guilt.
>>221767640The scene were he chokes her, I have seen a lot of ryona choking videos on my time and she seemed mildly inconvenienced when he was choking her out
>>221772580>realizes he is wrong and decides to let the therapist go and defends her from a lovecraftian monster>liberal "journalists" think this makes him a bad guy
>>221772645Nicholas Cage in the backrooms could be kino
>>221773184Okay true I admit it would be
>>221772790I don't really think it's ambiguous. Her fate is but that's a minor thing in the grand scheme of things. Clark's conflict is resolved in a sad way and we understand what t he backrooms is. Not really ambiguous.
>>221772645I think so too. A24 has been going bigger and bigger since they obviously want to become a major studio like the rest, so that's going to end up with them throwing too much money around and trying to get major names attached to things.
>>221773223What gets me is how the backrooms are supposed to be some thing you no clip into and can't get out, but then in this it's just "here's a door, I'll just come and go as i please"
They could have done without him cutting up those fucked up people or ripping out their guts to eat since they wanted Clark to be a tragic character and that's straight up being a psychopath
The rat's back
>>221773259Yea I don't believe the director when he said he always had this shit mapped out
Just triathaloned it.Wow, that sucked!
>>221756057Hoarding mother's the perfect counterpoint to Clark (that messy type of OCD is comorbid with narcissism, which is the throughline of their hostage talk). Should've shown him 'stealing' furniture to resell, and having withdrawal issues down there.
>>221773259it's his interpretation i guess, but the YouTube video did 'noclipping' better.it's just a portal and turning off wall collision, it's more like zipping out of reality.hurr durr drugs but if you've ever tried DMT, you really do get fucking YANKED out of reality, like you're zooming away from de_dust2.
They could easily degrade this IP and make it the next Saw with yearly Halloween releases with a new group of people who enter the backrooms and have to deal with their trauma until the 10th one is Backrooms in Space where a backroom entrance is found on the International Space Station
I was kinda hoping the backrooms was religious themed like what if when God created Earth and there is a spot that he kind of fucked up with random mind boggling shit in it that he treated as a dev room to test shit in
>>221773343Backrooms 5Now that the existence of the Backrooms has been made public, a group of livestreamers enter the Backrooms.
>>221753501George Lucas was going to explain all this in his sequel trilogy.
>>221772702Yeah if you're going to write a therapy element into your movie you better think it out properly >Wanna know why your wife left? It wasn't the drinkingYes it was>It wasn't stumbling in all hours of the night Yes it was>It was because you're a whiny pussyThanks doc. You mean to tell me if I drank my ass off and stumbled home at late hours and then beat my wife and subjugated her, made her quit school, like a manly man, she wouldn't have left? What does that say about you? About women in general?
>>221773277what if its not even the real clark? for all we know he has 2 extra toes and is missing a navel
Honestly i dont mind the nigger protagonist. Im more annoyed that a woman was allowed to have a major role.
>>221773414There are so many ambiguous plot threads at the end they can do anything>who was the important looking group of people looking at her>we saw Clark on a medical table briefly does that mean he made it?>what happens to Mary>even the guy interviewing her seems to have a chip on his shoulders and was shown multiple times in the movie what's his deal?
I wish real life existed bros...I want to live in this bright and muted pastel-coloured world with cloudy blue skies and hot-air balloons flying around.I already live in southern Ontario and have been to Alberta/BC where that's a reality, but there's too many people.
>>221773427she had a 'care' job, i'm 100% okay with that. they didn't write her as a man.
>Mary, I am putting a team together for the Backrooms Initiative and I would like you to be a member
>>221773502>>we saw Clark on a medical table briefly does that mean he made it?That was BBC (Big Backrooms Clark) not real Clark.
>>221773516Move to Colorado
>>221773343It probably will go that way if Backrooms has any success. Kane has more or less painted himself into a corner since people will just expect more backrooms style shit.>>221773534Why is Nick Fury in the movie?
>>221754413So what happened to his wife after he gets lost in the backrooms? I guess she had to actually go out and get a job, huh.
>>221773184Only if he plays as Distorted Longlegs
>>221766577She showed her nude ass during a shower scene in some Danish movie.
Backrooms: Casting CouchIf you think about it this whole movie is the backrooms reflection of that since it's also about furniture.
>>221762987>hurr durr everything must be explained!/x/ and SCP were a mistake.
>>221766113>Rattman paintingsHe's doing a Portal movie, right?
>>221773631FUCK OFF i want supernatural monsters to follow cause-and-effect, they have aj origin and rules.>oooOOOOooo it's magic, it's meant to be ambiguous bro, also it's magic, and it's up for interpretation, plus did i mention it's magic?i want to come away feeling like the writer has at least thought his creation through.
Two things I don't understandWhy were there so many places with greetings in multiple languages playing? If you leave the subtitles on you still hear it even when Mary is being led to her interrogation roomWhat was the point of that gas trap? To stop the pirate monster and capture it or humans? Were these two things related? Were the Jesus cutouts attempted traps to trap him?
>>221762215>What is the underlying messageIt's the inverse of the NPC Meme, inside out Mandela Effect: the present is a dumpster of bad copies and poorly maintained tradition, unmoored from historical continuity & shared memory. Consumerism's piling forgettable disposable things up in place of what could be heirlooms. Why bother? Look at Clark, or guru therapist Spinster professional woman. We don't even live in a society in memory to call back on and have warm and fuzzies over what used to be (even that's probably rose tinted glasses). Clark himself was pumped and dumped by his law school wife, and symbolically castrated again by the Ottoman Empire (invented eunuchs, his mascot & store title ironically self-imposed slavery). With people living increasingly disassociated internal lives on devices and vicarious social media, with total surveillance Ad Id ect., you're walking around the Backrooms in meatspace— empty husks are present, persons you could meet or want to know, are not, and don't speak with you so much as interface something synthetic and contrived with you(rs) to the degree it's mutually reinforcing that constructed identity ... that's Clark's wife, chasing girl boss lawyerhood, Clark consoling himself with the performative rituals of Married Man Provider while being completely transactional, his heart not being in it. The Therapist collecting the cluttered lived of patients like stray cats, never letting anyone in close to build a real home and family with— just like her Mother trained her . . . This is seeping in, and having billionaire money can't buy you immunity.
>>221773682the !notSCP guys placed the cardboard cutouts + speakers, right? maybe it was their way of drawing people trapped in the Backrooms to a known point. different languages since the magic portals were all over the world.
>>221773678When someone here spoiled it for me when the movie came out I thought the explanation was garbage. Watching it now, the idea that the place can create your fears but also familiarity and it's so infinitely large you can spend years to decades searching that familiarity while a rage monster created from your head chases you actually seems pretty fucked up and interesting
>>221755755Seeing the short movie after the credits, I had the impression a found footage movie was more what Kane may have actually wanted to make. I think it would have been a more interesting movie that way too.
>>221773714Yea they always had a camera in front of them that said the one guy was shocked when he saw Clark so I dunno if that was their plan
>>221773729I think this was better. The gimmick of weird rooms and a random jump scare monster would have got old if it was the entire movie. The IRL scenes just needed to be better
>>221773685jfc how do I unsubscribe from this moronic faggot's blog
>>221768132>why the black guy's pirate doppelganger killed himHe remembered who he was, Therapist broke the self-pity & loathing loop. Treating her as another person, and not another spook entity that could be disposed of (or eaten) is a problem down there, for the Backrooms parasitizing memory.
>>221768200That can't be right, since he heard the monster from the first time he went in.
>>221769975I think he started going crazy from it after the first few visits when he was mapping it out
Now that I saw this should I watch the other meme movie Obsession?
>>221773763i feel like a crazy person but i wanted MORE real world scenes and thought going through weird rooms got old fast.i mean it's the same shit as Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory: the more you hold off on it, the better the payoff of these weird rooms feels.
>>221772007>>221772409dude wouldn't have been able to stand up on the ledge even, very immersion breaking
The movie was doing so well until they did the ting where the main character hurts their leg while running away from the monster. That felt like studio meddling
>>221773945i don't even understand what happened tbqh. there's a bit of a crack sound, like she twisted her ankle or something. but it's not tripping on a branch on the ground: it's a room FULL OF SOFT COUCHES.
>>221773995Here's what happened. Despite her logically being slowed by the confusing nature of the backrooms and weird obstacles its creates, some old producer said "no no no in horror movies the main character has to hurt their leg to slow them down from the monster to create more tension" despite the backrooms creating the tension well enough and her no selling that injury almost immediately in the next scene almost like when the producer left the room she was told to forget everything she was told
>>221774044i like me some slow monsters, even a big room at the end could have just been a dead end (if you were to chart all the nodes/connections).maybe it was a post-hoc explanation, or a 'ya gotta have that!' decision. i don't know. could have just had her turn round and the door has disappeared, or something.i'm sure there were a few i missed, but i really liked the camera spin on his first venture in the skybox room. the whole environment changes behind him, neat! that's the sort of thing i was hoping for.
>>221768200it seems like the implication is that you don't even NEED to walk in to it. the portals seem to absorb things in its vicinity.
>>221773995I assumed it's the thing where your limb catches on something and then the fall is what hurts it but it looks like she doesn't catch on to anything, shit is weird.
>>221774263There's continuity error in this scene. Mary walks down into the basement with her coat on and her hair tied. It then cuts to a flashback of Clark explaining the Backrooms to her and then it cuts back to Mary and she's not wearing her coat and has her hair down.
>>221774747Not necessarily a continuity error. There's probably a shot that was edited out of her laying her jacket down and undoing her hair before she investigates the room.
>>221769529You don't get to bring your associates.
>>221748226>pov you're a british school girl on your way home
Did straight women really dress like this in 1990? She looks like a lesbian
>>221775127she's a spinster dude
>>221772585>friend finally watched this and thought the movie was Woke because her surviving and saying fuck you meant she is actually a girl boss who isnt badI hate the left for infecting people with idpol. Who the fuck watches this movie and thinks she's an even remotely good therapist. The bitch brought upon Clark's downfall because she sucks so much at her job due to fucking mommy issues.
>>221775127She will never have a partner. She's afraid of becoming her mother and having kids to trap them in a house like she was.
>>221773343Kane already said he has a layout for a 8 episode series to end the entire story. He said during an interview with Smosh.
>>221775401end his story and move on while someone else takes over
>>221755856Enjoy your divorce
>>221755856>>221775585>retards that see a dude being fucked in the ass means he's the bad guy>retards not realizing that Mary was also fucking incompetent at her job and only made the situation worse
>>221750100>what if I made a low budget movie . . . based off a greentext
>>221755986this was considered fat in 1990
>>221749820She's seeing literally insane shit happening around her with demonic broken monster people and she gets over all of it in about 25 seconds because the writer wanted it to be about TRAUMA and not the fucking backrooms
If Mary were still alive in current year she'd be 75 years old
>>221775127my ex was a therapist (not larping) and dressed exactly like this but only when at work and running errands after work

>>221777456Indeed, who would go willingly through a portal to a hostile and unknown building.
>>221777777
>>221769299I tought in that specific instance the entrance was blocked? It seemed like more a physical portal than the others and got fucked up due to clipping issues.
