>No prostitutes, actors or unclean tradesmen may attend

What was their problem with actors?
>>
Actors are two faced liars, all of them
>>
I dunno, it was weird. I love actors. They're amazing.
>>
>>221762543
theyre called thespians and that sounds like lesbians and tahts bad
>>
>>221762543
actors give you false emotions and false identities. same with prostitutes. anything lacking sincerity was seen as degeneracy by romans. unclean tradesmen just means things like merchants of death or theft/thieves/criminals.
>>
>>221762543
But he already said prostitutes?
>>
>>221762543
it was seen as debauched to pretend to be someone else, weird face saving stuff about honor
also Roman’s thought Greeks were faggots so it kept them in their place
>>
Actors only skill is lying convincingly.

It's entertaining to watch but on a human level they are garbage
>>
>>221762590
>unclean tradesmen just means things like merchants of death or theft/thieves/criminals.
So the toilet cleaners were considered clean tradesmen?
>>
>>221762607
>weird face saving stuff about honor
Weird? Still applies to most of the world today, and did apply to the west until very recently when moral decay began to set in
>>
>>221762543
>>
>>221762657
Romans were very autistic about it thoughbeit
like augustus had to institute laws limiting the freeing of slaves because once a slave becomes a freedman they are honor bound to the person who freed them, so rich people would buy hundreds of slaves and free them to farm the Roman equivalent of izzat
>>
>>221762630
Toilet cleaners were slaves so they didn’t count as anything
>>
>>221762543
Same reason they valued truth and logic over the flair of semantics.
I'll be jailed for antisemitism btw.
>>
>>221762584
they were probably just jealous
>>
>>221762584
Based NPC
>>
>>221762590

What I would give to live in one of these Aspergers-tier cultures
>>
>>221762590
>unclean tradesmen just means
i thought it meant butchers, horse handlers etc people covered in blood, shit and dirt
>>
>>221762812
Nah, that’s hebrew nonsense.
>>
>>221762543
Just as today, the actors then were all gay.
>>
The only reason this quote makes the rounds here is because most modern actors have political opinions that the board disagrees with. As soon as it's someone like James Woods tweeting stuff you people can't stop gushing over the guy.
>>
>>221762611
You must have an extremely low opinion of the director then given that he doesn't even 'lie convincingly' but orders other people to do so.

It's a disingenuous argument anyway because it's being done in service of art, much like voice acting is a decent part of a singer's skills for making their art.

>>
>>221762893
I think all actors, whether they agree with me or not, should stay in their lane. I don't give a fuck what athletes think about anything besides their sport and I don't give a fuck what actors think about anything besides acting. Simple as
>>
>>221762543
>the greeks invented the theater and regarded it as a divine gift which they preformed in connection to religious festivals
>the romans treated it like dirt and preferred to watch sloppy dramas of mistaken identity that would make jacobeans blush
Really makes you think.
>>
>>221763230
Damn, maybe the greeks really were gay
>>
>>221762590
>We now have fresco paintings of monstrosities, rather than truthful representations of definite things. For instance, reeds are put in the place of columns, fluted appendages with curly leaves and volutes, instead of pediments, candelabra supporting representations of shrines, and on top of their pediments numerous tender stalks and volutes growing up from the roots and having human figures senselessly seated upon them; sometimes stalks having only half-length figures, some with human heads, others with the heads of animals.
>Such things do not exist and cannot exist and never have existed. Hence, it is the new taste that has caused bad judges of poor art to prevail over true artistic excellence. For how is it possible that a reed should really support a roof, or a candelabrum a pediment with its ornaments, or that such a slender, flexible thing as a stalk should support a figure perched upon it, or that roots and stalks should produce now flowers and now half-length figures? Yet when people see these frauds, they find no fault with them but on the contrary are delighted, and do not care whether any of them can exist or not. Their understanding is darkened by decadent critical principles, so that it is not capable of giving[212] its approval authoritatively and on the principle of propriety to that which really can exist.
Why were they so autistic?
>>
>>221763388
Autists forcing their shit opinions on everyone else is as old as civilisation. In antiquity they became philosophers, in medieval era theologians, today movie critics.
>>
>>221763588
We info dump because we think everyone is as curious as we are. It's not malice, but I can see how it can be very annoying
>>
>>221762611
These days none of them are actually good at their job.
>>
>>221762543
Actors are paid professional liars, and the Ancient world only needed to experience a handful of them meddling in politics to realize they're never to be trusted.

I'll have the floor,

I HAVE A QUESTION CONCERNING THE JANNY OF /TV/, THE DARLING OF HIROSHIMA.

WHY DOES HE STILL WORK FOR FREE? WHY DOES HE DO A BAD JOB AT THAT? HIS ILLEGAL PRUNING OF THREADS IS OVER. CUNNYPOSTERS HAVE LONG SINCE BEEN DEFEATED

WHY DOES THE JANNY ALLOW REDDIT THREADS TO STAY UP? FOR 13 LONG YEARS HE HAS GORGED HIMSELF ON DELETING BASED PEPE THREADS ON /TV/, AND THEREBY TURNED THIS ONCE PROUD BOARD INTO ANOTHER REDDIT.

WHY?! WHY DOES HE PLY THE NEWFAGS WITH ANTI-RACIST BAITS AND TUMBLR MEMES? WHY HAS HE UNBANNED EVERY. SINGLE. TROON ON THIS BOARD? WHY?!

I'll tell you why he does these things

HE WANTS TO BE PAID! HE WANTS TO DESTROY THIS BOARD... AND RULE /tv/ AS A BLOODY REDDIT MOD. That's why.

Therefore, I move that the tranny mod's reign over /tv/ be terminated immediately, that his jannies be disbanded, and that he be recalled to /qa/ to answer charges of pruning, banning, deleting and redditism

In japan a lot of TV and movie actresses are part time escorts at the ultra-luxury agencies. Where they take maybe 1 or 2 shifts a month for some extra cash.
When you book them you have no idea who you'll end up meeting. You just get their age, weight, body type, and general career info like "star in numerous netflix shows" or "TV host in popular talkshow", etc.

It's pricy as fuck though, and most of them don't serve foreigners

Romans definitely had a conception of "unclean" professions. Someone dealing with refuse, piss, shit, corpses, etc. would be considered unclean and would have correspondingly lower social standing.

If all videos of people speaking current-day English were lost to time, and people stopped speaking "proper" English entirely in 2500 because of a civilizational collapse, with only random mutt varieties mutating into new unintelligible forms, how well do you think dickheads in the year 4000 would speak "proper" modern English as you speak it? Do you think some faggot who paid an exhorbitant sum to learn it from a cunt in a bowtie would speak it perfectly, or would he sound somewhere between goofy and unintelligible?

Actors were prostitutes in the Roman Empire. Justinian had to change the law so he could marry his prostitute-actress wife Theodora.

The Romans were right to think of actors as being lower than prostitutes. At least prostitutes offer us something useful.

Plato had something to say about this in terms of Theater and Music. The power they held in manipulating people's emotions was really potent. A negative one could effect society negatively. While a positive one could effect it positively.

Actors, like it or not, have prominence in your lives. They're in your childhood memories. They're in your vernacular. They live rent free in your minds. THAT. IS. POWER.

Imagine life before everything had become completely regulated and there are a million lawyers. You survive in your community based your reputation. Acting and prostitution are inherently dishonest professions. I believe this is why actors would wear masks in ancient stage plays, the mask makes it clear the actor is playing a role that doesn't necessarily make them dishonest in their regular life. I also think theater had a revival in the late middle ages because priests and monks acted out the biblical plays and clergy were considered beyond reproach at the time.

Just think back to your school days about what kind of people the drama kids were.

Everyone knew they were never to be trusted with anything of importance, because being two-faced is why they became drama kids to begin with.

It wasn't just the Romans. Pretty much all pre-modern cultures had the same opinion on actors.

Thoughout most of history acting was considered a form of prostitution. Right up through the 1800's you could pay to fuck any of the actors you saw on stage. Not much has changed really, almost every actor and actress working today had to take a lot of dick to get their big break.

Always had women on stage acting in brothels. Acting was basically considered a way for prostitutes to advertise the goods before you buy.

Back in those days actors were trash people who were not paid well and they traveled with a band of performers. They were like how we see Carnies. They were sketchy people with booze and drug problems who ended up in performance because they were losers. Acting was often seen more like we see WWE.

in many ancient and medieval societies, actors were viewed with suspicion because they portrayed fictional characters, were associated with pagan festivals, or were considered to have a low social status.

>Caesar
She was young and hot and he had a vested interest in hitching his wagon to hers - Rome and Egypt both having civil wars meant that the two sides might pick sides in each others' war. Now the optimates certainly weren't going to make a deal with lil Ptolemy after he served up Pompey's head to Caesar, so getting in with Cleopatra and putting her on the throne eliminated the possibility of her siding with them while also being a propaganda win for Caesar since he deposed the murderer of Pompey.

actors/performers are rootless fags who produce nothing and travel around farming people's emotions for money, ancient and feudal societies appropriately treated them as lower than prostitutes and just barely above corpse handlers and dung rakers
