Just finished. I saw someone say in a review of Evil Town that this was kinda similar, and I see what they meant. This was a lot less fun mostly due to the ugly grey modern cinematography. Just finished. I'd been wanting to see this anyway, but a friend told me it was basically a kids horror movie, so that bumped it way up the watchlist. Horror is a stretch but I get where he was coming from. What I didn't realize before seeing it was the creatures the kid drew are all killer monsters. They mitigate this by making them super easy to kill. The dialogue is cute and natural, and Tony Hale especially is very good and sympathetic (he also produced, surprising for an Angel Studios movie. Wonder if he's religious.) Not on the level of Monster Squad or something but I liked it.

Just finished. Don't care what anyone says, Scooby-doo is always /hor/. It's a shame this hit at the start of covid, this should be three movies into a franchise at this point. It's in love with the whole Hanna-Barbera roster and was clearly meant to kickstart a cinematic universe. I'm a Velma fan from way back, but this time Daphne was clearly hotter; she actually looks like skinny BDH. There's also a thicc negress character, but they clearly avoid showing off her huge ass as much as they can. The end credits tease Johnny Quest, Grape Ape, Jabberjaw, and fucking Frankenstein Jr, and I weep that Scoob 2 will probably never happen.
