ITT: books you desperately want to see adapted as TV series or movies
>>221783572Revelation Space and Red Mars would have to be a series, you couldn't possible do them as a single movie. Also, Dragondoom by Dennis McKiernan
>>221783729>Revelation Space and Red Mars would have to be a seriesYeah absolutely, theres no way to tell either of these, condensed into 2 hours, and id be scared if the announced a movie.Theres just too many intertwining plotl-ines, and Red Mars covers a large time period.>DragondoomInteresting choice, havent heard of it. How so, and movie or series ya think?
>>221783572>>221783729All "muh old books into movie when?" threads are unc posting.Hide and sage.
>>221784129There's nothing stopping you from posting what you consider a modern book
I want an animated series of this so bad. It would he way too awkward as live action with how edgy it is, it needs a stylized animation to make it fit the tone of the story
>>221783572Roadside picnicNeuromancer
>>221783572>wanting to see your favorite books pozzed, gender and race-swappedSoulless.
>>221784942Yeah I don't get it. I remember being excited to see nerd stuff get adapted 25 years ago when the worst you had to worry about was it being cheap garbage that fans could ignore, but these days? Sci-fi has been mainstreamed enough - in braindead form - that any adaptation is certainly going to become the default version for almost everyone(even, sadly, people who read the originals but simply don't have the willpower and self-respect to go against the majority - I've seen people I used to have a vague sense of respect for sincerely argue that it was actually a good thing that the Expanse TV series killed off Alex because of bullshit to do with the actor and that the compressed supporting cast made it better than the books), and we live in a context where any adaptation is almost certainly going to be incredibly unfaithful and often a deliberate, spiteful subversion of the original work.Anyone who wants to see cool things adapted in Current Year is retarded. I mean jesus fuck >>221783572, can you not imagine what fucking horrors they would perpetrate against that story? Are you ready for flawless girlboss Volyova? Clavain being Worthless Old Man who gets corrected by fingersnapping sassy Felka all the time? Can't wait to see all the Pigs turn out to be Heckin Goodbois who're only violent against Oppressors Who Deserve It because if we're going to have an allegory for oppressed minorities there can't be any moral ambiguity in their behaviour whatsoever. They'd probably turn Dan Sylveste into High Misogy-Dictator of Resurgam and make him a wifebeater or some shit.
I expect that with the success of Backrooms this will find its way into production hell.
>>221784688I think Apple is doing a Neuromancer miniseries. I wouldn't hold my breath that it'll be good, though.
>>221786205>Clavain being Worthless Old Man who gets corrected by fingersnapping sassy Felka all the time? That literally has never happen in any movie or series that I've saw.
>>221783572It'd be cool but only if they don't change the ending.
Rama
The rest of the books would make for a weird series, though we'll never see it of course. The movie with Harrison Ford was alright.
>>221788957That one would be cool
>>221788957>tfw Morgan Freeman, who has been trying to get it adapted since 2001, will be dead before it gets made
>>221789056Oh yeah Freeman wanted to play Commander Norton. That ship has sailed
>>221783572None. Why would I want woke fags to ruin more things that I like?
>>221784688>roadside picnicit's already been made.
Directed by Mel Gibson.
>>221783572
Really not sure why woke Apple hasn't done I Robot. The Will Smith movie has soured people's idea of the story, but a proper Susan Calvin would be catnip for marketing
>>221788935It's like the worst form of "ftl" ever. Can only do it for a couple of times until you get cancer, and while time stops for you, it still passes on outside.
>>221788957Would be kind of boring. They enter the ship, nothing happens, they leave.
I want it, but I know it's too difficult to adapt well.
>>221789299and nothing is really answered. They weren't here for us, they just course corrected. Could be cool tho. I'm thinking Zendaya and Pattinson.
Uplift War would be cool
>>221784471>>221784471>majority of Khellus' chapters are internal monologuesBrah it's not going to work.
>>221789402Haven't seen the Dune films but a good portion of the first book at least is internal monolgues.
>>221789181Wish this was possible to do well.
Three part series, an hour or so each, covering the three parts of A Canticle for Leibowitz
>>221788957Villeneuve is working on an adaptaion
>>221789424i can never get over the sideways landscapes.
Honestly, and Im surprised it hasnt been touched, The Ballad of Halo Jones. Its smart, female protags, niglet rich smart kid, rat warfare and general Luiz Cannibal. It would be amazing if they did a proper adaptation.
>>221783572I want a big budget faithful TV adaptation of Pandora's Star, where each chapter is an episode
It would require a sfx budget only Apple could afford.
>>221789205Mein niggar. It would be utter kïno. Give it to the guy who did the latest Alien movie (I know, people didn't like the script) and make him to stick to the story. Would be so based.
>>221783572>desperately>oh god im desperateDESPERATE>please make a *thing* into a tv/film>please>i have SUCH BIG FEELINGS>about *thing*>feelings feelings feelings>please GOD>please make into tv/film>fucking FEELINGSgrow up faggot
Give it to Eggers. He would crush it. He's also the only working director I would trust to properly portray the setting and tone, and wouldn't be afraid to put the weird shit in the movie that another director might pull back from. Everyone else would fuck it up somehow either way, but if you can name someone better to direct, I'd genuinely like to hear it.
>>221787323How about a wad?https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5wAo54DHDY0
>>221790107this imo. the commonwealth universe is the ultimate boomer fantasy: near ultimate, unlimited, eternal growth. morninglightmountain is a very cool alien badman. also, the star flyer feels familiar somehow. not sure. well, cya!
>>221789926Really? Man, that could be kino
>>221787369It being Apple makes me more optimistic than the alternatives.
>>221788957If they do it right, it would break some people’s brains.
>>221789873The intro of the first part should be 45 minutes long
>>221790160Damn, just read the synopsis. This sounds fantastic.
>>221787397Being incapable of recognising hyperbole is a symptom of autism anon, get checked.
>>221787369Wasn't literally the first thing revealed about that series beyond its existence that they're blackwashing one of the main characters? I'm expecting another Foundation-tier adaptation-in-name-only.
>>221789205Almost got me with that one. Hilarious wikipedia article - "hard sci-fi" featuring a "genetically-reincarnated vampire" lmao
>>221790107Eh I can't take Hamilton seriously since someone recommended some of his books to me and they turned out to be some bullshit about how the afterlife is real actually but it's filling up with souls like a backed-up toilet blah blah. Wow those were stinkers.
>>221792457Yeah I hate when my hard sci-fi novels aren't just physics textbooks and have some kind of a central conceit. FTL travel? What a joke
>>221783729Isn't red mars actually extremely short timescale wise, outside of the flash forward? And it's mostly about what characters thing about "thing" each chapter, rather than the overarching plot of colonisation? I seem to recall it ends and blue mars has a massive timeskip like 50 years forwards or some shitUnless you meant the trilogy, in which case it's so hopelessly extended and deliberately epic that you couldn't make it anything but six or seven movies, none of them being anything like low budget
>>221783572Wouldn't Perfect, Shadow Captain or Terminal World be easier to film (and harder to ruin)?
>>221789181>Zendaya cast as JocastaThey'd just ruin it.
Please don't be shit please don't be shit
>>221792276Trust me, the book itself is even better. Stop posting and go read it immediately.
>>221793278Yes to all of those
>>221789328if we weren't in entertainment hell right now a hyperion miniseries would be very doable, it's not nearly as obtuse to adapt as revelation space or book of the new sun
>>221783572Why would i ever want Hollywood to adapt anything
>>221795398>Hollywood is the only place that makes movies/shows
Cast has to be nothing but niggers
>>221790246nah Eggers is too kino for this reddit trash
>>221789402The Aspect Emperor series doesnt have any og Kellhus' thoughts at all and its much more engaging not knowing if his intentions are pure or not.But thats also why i want it animated, internal monologue fits so much better in an animated medium than live action
/tv/ pseuds are not ready for this masterpiece
>>221795453Oh wow, Netflix and apple. Even better
>>221790246The guy that made The King or Green Knight could probably match the tone but yeah Eggers is the only one that could actually make it and make it look like its suppose to
>>221783572They'd fuck it all up though.
>>221783572This one would be kino
>>221789424Almost everything by Niven and Pournelle is gold. I would kill for A Mote In God's Eye or Footfall movie.
>>221788966I wanted to.see valentine and Peter take over the world through 4chan.
>>221789205This one has a really good fan short.https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=VkR2hnXR0SMMassive spoilers>>221792457I was fucking skeptical too but the book is incredibly based and worth reading
I present: The worst timed fantasy book of all time. Managed to miss the grimdark window, the isekai window and the commentary window. Now Stover is stuck writing trash novelizations for Disney.
>>221796844Get help.
>>221783572It's a shame this has Star Wars in its name.
>>221797071I thought this was a meme book from /lit/.
>>221792598Stories that include FTL aren't hard sci-fi by definition you fucking pseud.
>>221787323Kevin bacon did a si.ilar film with the premise but wasnt as cool or fantastically in the book. Dave built a maze is similar but whacky and funny.
>>221800704We've never even went to the moon. How do you expect for there to be any good """space""" movies.
The polity series now!
>>221783572Between Two Fires
