Was lucky enough to just see it in IMAX. I wonder what other anons' thoughts are on the movie? The bad:>Travis Scott is unnecessary and distracting>Ellen Paige or whatever their new name is isn't convincing at all as a Greek warrior>Some of the dialogue is a bit jarring>Anglos still fear showing sex or even breasts when violence is fine, weird protestant hangover>The jeet actor, whatever his name is, wasn't great>Zendaya is mid as fuck and I don't understand why zoomers love her>Calypso isn't hot at all for a nymph>some of the costumes are really ridiculous>it could've been 20mins shorterThe good:>the cinematography is peak>Pattinson steals every scene he's in the man deserves all the praise he's getting>surprisingly, Damon did a good job>the finale doesn't disappoint, I loved the ending shot>the soundtrack works very well, minus the fucking autotune rap during part of the creditsTL;DR usual mid casting by Nolan but it's certified kino
How is the Circe scene? Nolan is super autistic about sex.
>>221786648Shut up retard
>>221786648hows the circe scene handled, it was my first fetish
not watching I am still boycotting anything with trannies in it
>>221786648Kino yet the bad outweigh the good on your list
>>221786991>>221787016She doesn't try to fuck Odysseus in this version.
>>221787030Lotr is my generation's lotr. You zoombers can eat this shit if you want.
>>221787060hows the scene were she turns the men into pigs, fappable?
>>221787106No, it's played for horror. She shapes their faces like clay from human to pig.
>>221787030Wow I saw this same exact comment in the last shill thread, what a coincidence
>>221786938The youtube chud criticism is very entertaining though>>221786648Almost exactly what I expected
>>221786648any goon?
>>221787030Thank God I'm not a zoomer and had LOTR as my LOTR instead
>Non-linear narrative starting with Ithaca overtaken by the suitors and an amnesiac Odysseus trapped in Calypso’s island.>Following a confrontation with Antinous, Telemachus leaves in search of Odysseus, while Athena appears to Odysseus and stirs his memories, inspiring him to resume his journey.>Telemachus visits Agamemnon, leading to flashbacks of the fall of Troy and Odysseus’s encounter with the Laestrygonians.>Odysseus slowly regains his memories of his encounters with Polyphemus, Circe, the Underworld, Scylla and Charybdis as he sails towards Ithaca.>No “nobody has blinded me” scene, no lotus-eaters, No bag of winds.>No gods appear physically aside from Athena, and she only appears to Odysseus. Poseidon is represented by the raging sea and Zeus by a massive thunderstorm.>The mermaids are not seen, only their song is heard driving the men crazy.>Scylla doesn’t appear in full, we only see glimpses of its tentacles. Charybdis is depicted as a living whirlpool with no monster at the center of it.>Samantha Morton plays Circe, and she turns Odysseus’s crew into pigs. She doesn’t attempt to seduce Odysseus.>The slaughter of Zeus’s sacred cattle is included, and it immediately leads into the storm destroying Odysseus’s remaining fleet and Odysseus washing ashore of Calypso’s island.>The massacre of the suitors is extremely violent and disturbing, and not framed as a heroic.>Movie ends with Odysseus, Penelope and Telemachus reunited, but all broken by the experience. Odysseus has severe PTSD, Penelope is quietly afraid of him, and Telemachus has become a hardened and violent man.
>>221786648>the fucking autotune rap during part of the creditsLMAO ok, I apologize. This is amazing.
>>221786648>>surprisingly, Damon did a good jobPersonally, it was never in doubt. People who were shitting on the casting must have the real Damon confused with the Team America puppet. He's an able actor and has always played interiority -- which I imagine must be key for Odysseus -- especially well (see Ripley, The Departed, Bourne, etc.).
>>221787222>Non-linear narrative starting with Ithaca overtaken by the suitors and an amnesiac Odysseus trapped in Calypso’s island.Holy shit, I can't believe Nolan made Homer so post-modern
>>221786648>>221787222Does Telemachus kill the female servants that aided the suitors? Does Odysseus reunite with his father?
>>221786648W/o spoilers, please tell us broadly about the spectacle. Does the film deliver in that respect? What about Nolan's autistic avoidance of lots of CGI, does it hamper the film in any way (like the shitty practical explosion does in Oppenheimer)?
>>221787222Does Telemachus give the order to hang the servant girls who slept with the suitors?
>>221787446No way they'd do that, Odysseus wanted them to get executed quickly but then Telemachus basically said "nah, let's hang 'em since they deserve a slow and painful death"
>>221786648I'm just not going to give money to peoples who hate me
>>221787432No and no. I was very disappointed by the female servant not getting killed.
>>221787438In terms of pure spectacle it's, imo, absolutely stunning, especially the Troy scenes. CGI is used sparingly and overall quite well. It's very Nolan, I that some bits could remind you of Dunkirk or Interstellar.
>>221788775It'll look great on my oled
So give it to me straight, is it implied that gods and monsters don't actually exist in this movie?
>>221788970nope. cyclops is real and athena takes the form of a dead girl
>>221788970As this anon said >>221789038Scylla is also seen, and the Circe part is horror kino. The cyclops is also done in a horror kind of way, very well I thought. The sirens seemed sexy but you see them from kinda far away, it was a shame. Well done scene overall though. But like I said, it misses me off there's literally no sex, be it Calypso, Circe, or Penelope, when they don't shy away from violence overall.I liked the strong anti-war message even though I realise that makes me a cuck in the eyes of poltards.
>>221789169But are all the monster scenes shown in flashbacks?
what games are nolan playing here. truly the most disgusting casts ever yet he overperforms on cinematic delivery.is this the new normal we are supposed to accept?
>>221789169Pisses me off*, fuck I hate phoneposting>>221789188Yes, but it's not like the scenes are black and white or something
>>221789226It's annoying but honestly, aside from Memento and The Prestige, maybe Dunkirk, I've never liked his casting, especially the women. He has shit taste in actresses most of the time.I should've mentioned that the Circe actress, though, also steals the scenes she's in. Her and Pattinson are a level above.
>>221789241the problem is that I suspect they're doing the "odysseus was actually straight up lying about his encounters with gods and monsters" thing, or in the case of the movie, he's having a faulty recollection that's being influenced by his own beliefs in the gods and other monsters. And as for Athena, well, one of the most common "tropes" in greek mythology is that the gods like to disguise themselves as mortals and interact with people. The greeks used these myths to explain why the gods didn't show themselves since the idea was that anyone you encountered could be a god in disguise. So even if Athena isn't in a flashback, there's still the impression that she's not actually a goddess and Odysseus is just projecting his past trauma onto her.
I don’t care how good the movie is, Niggelen of Troy sealed it’s fate of me never paying for it. I’ll wait for the hdRip.
>>221786648How did they handle the cyclops scene? Do they actually show the cyclops chomping on human heads?
>>221789440Lupita is better than most of the other women cast, save for Circe. Nolan sucks at casting women.>>221789379They talk a lot about Zeus's law, about the fact you welcome people including vagrants because they could be Gods in disguise. Don't want to say more in case I spoil things but it's an important point in the film. I never got the impression it was made to look like Odysseus makes things up or misremembers things.
>>221789474Yep. It's well done. He also talks about his father Poseidon and asks him to avenge him.
>the pros>standard film expectations>the bad>extremely woke and distractingDefinitely sounds like it won't suck.
>>221786648Transphobic OP, REPORT + BAN
>Odysseus is LE BAD for breaking hospitality by killing the suitors who had been living in his house for many yearsI don't think he was the one violating hospitality at that point.
>>221790091That's not really the main point, the main point is that he broke "Zeus's law" even before then by tricking the Trojans via a peace offering, and the guilt he felt at what they did once inside.
>>221786938Stop spamming this you’re just as bad as them at this point.
>>221789361Nolan has always been bad to female characters.
>>221786648Can't believe people are paying extra to watch shit in 4:3
>>221786648>Ellen Paige or whatever their new name is isn't convincing at allWe know.
>>221786648>>surprisingly, Damon did a good job
>>221786648>TL;DR usual mid casting by Nolan but it's certified kinoShill post
>>221787438>W/o spoilersNigga The Odyssey has been out for 2800 years.
>>221790236>by tricking the Trojans via a peace offeringWell the trojans are niggers anyway for shooting Menelaos after both armies have agreed to a peace. I doubt Odysseus, who's often specifically refered to as crafty, and who's even conducted a night raid on the enemies killing many in their sleep, is suddenly sad about tricking the Trojans.
>>221791478The movie is completely inaccurate in certain ways, don't get me wrong. In the film they make it seem like he found what they did in Troy pretty terrible. But I just liked the overall antiwar message. I don't need the film.to be 100% accurate to the poem, the poem is still there for any to read. And if anything I think this film will encourage more people to read the classics.
>>221786648>more bad than good>certified kino Can’t have both, nigger.
