The girl she loves becomes a successful or potentially successful "it" girl and leaves Naomi Watts to be with director guy who chose her for his film. Naomi Watts freaks out about this and hires a hitman to kill her. The plan goes through killing her but she can't handle it and imagines that she survived and came back to her with amnesia but the fantasy gets harder and harder to hold together until she can't take it and kills herself.the other parts that don't make sense, like the weird cowboy etc, were probably just loose ends from when the movie was originally meant to be his TV show follow up to Twin Peaks.
