how do these prevent theft
>>
If the thief wants to steal just the disk to avoid the alarm going off when they leave, it will make them make awkward movements trying to open it and make it obvious that they want to steal.

If you sharpen your thumbnail, you can slice right through that shit and make it look like you were just turning it over to read the back. I have hundreds of stolen dvds, but no longer even own a player. I can’t bring myself to throw them out because they’re a source of pride to me. Every now and then, I just go over and look at them and congratulate myself on being a smooth criminal.

You're going to hell for breaking the Eighth Commandment hundreds of times.

A lot of anti-theft deterrents are just about making it take slightly longer to get to the item

Relenting means not doing something anymore. I don’t steal DVDs anymore because now I can just pirate them as God intended.

Usually I see the bulkier ones.

The explosive ones are particularly effective.
