I can't say I've watched enough political TV to say whether this pattern means anything, but I tried to watch Diplomat a while ago, and considering current world events, its hilarious how often Fear Mongering about Iran comes up. All these fears about Iran terrorist, making up fantasy scenarios where Iran attacks the US or its allies unprompted. It's just funny, because 16 years from when this show released, and about 3 years from the Diplomat, nothing about Iran's behaviour has been reflected in the western perspective presented. Sure they're islamic, sure they're not perfectly democratic, because democractic and perfect have arbitrarily been decided the ideal, as a result of the most powerful and culturally relevant countries singing so.

But Iran hasnt actually...done anything as far as I can tell to warrant the fear mongering it gets in these shows. The terrorists? Stop Israel from illegally invading Lebanon, but I guess legality, law, and all that doesn't actually matter all that much, when all that makes "democracy" good is the fact that the most powerful and relevant country employs it, and takes and makes every effort to put down any sphere of influence that contradicts that. You can't reasonably say theres any "good guy" on the global world stage if you actually know anything about that stage, and are even moderately aware of recent events.

The pretense of nuclear power and terrorism is enough to threaten destruction of Iran, but a nuclear power like israel that just bombs whatever brown people are vaguely near it, is okay because its "democratic". I guess unequal rights, and invading neighbors, and genocide is fine aslong as you have democracy beside your name, and America by your side.

What I really wanted to talk about though is how much of a failure this final episode of Rubicon is, and therefore the entire season, because this is one of those shows that hinges on its ending.

For a show lauded as being so smart, and for some reason well written? This ending was genuinely horrible:

>Andy was actually secretly in on it all along and assigned to protect Katherine????
>Just lets Katherin walk out into Central Park alone while she watches at the entrance???
>Black dude henchman of the evil org stabs her with a "death kill" syringe without her even noticing, as he pretends to "bump into her" when its impossible to bump into somebody standing still in an open space without intentionality
>Will tells Miles about the conspiracy...for literally zero fucking reason? So that Miles can give some basic input on some photos he stole from Donald Blooms home, and magically unlocked a secret safe in his house with an offscreen phonecall
>The whole maggie thing was actually a problem episodes before, but its just even weirder here, he kicked her out because he couldnt trust her, brings her back because "I need somebody competent" she does nothing competent, literally the only job she had of watching Katherine she ditches anyway, but by the end she says "Trust me I promise" and he just forgives her anyway? The problem isnt that he forgave her, its that he reacted like he couldnt trust her, literally NOTHING changed, and then he just decided to trust her again.
>Tanya quitting for no reason, its clear she wanted to stay inspite of whatever qualms she had because she thinks her PHD education is worthy of such a smart people important job, but then randomly quits the last episode because...she can write a book instead? Just makes the character seem whimsical. Because her motivations for staying for so long in the first place werent strongly established it just her decision to leave feels arbitrary

And dont get me started on all the randomly started and unresolved character arcs
>Maggie and her daughter and her ex
>Grant and his wife wanting to know his job
>Miles and his wife and kids
>Tanya and her adhd druggie problem.

In Retrospect, the show was always a mess, weak characters, meandering plot where we'd learn like 1 new thing in 2 40 minute episodes. Or learn the exact same thing framed as new "Donald Bloom...Atlas..." Honestly I can't even remember anything important besides that. Also its kinda hilarious that Ed called the conspiracy so early with the Houston thing, but Will just randomly told him to stop for no reason. Sure he was a little weird, obsessed and seemingly autistic, but it never seemed like he was self harming, or in any real danger, even when he still helps will later in the season. So it just comes across as random and contrived as fuck that Will told him to stop looking into it lmao.

Dude when you look back at it, the whole show was a fucking mess. It was actually just not put together well whatsoever. You figure that none of this will be a problems by the end because the ending will be so worth all this culminating tension and intrigue. But no. Nothing is actually resolved, and no new understandings are revealed. So everytime the show fucked around and wasted time, or dangled a new character plotline early in the season just do nothing with it, actually ends up being bad by the end.

what is blud yappin bout?

Do any of you retards even actually watch TV? Actually watch something and look at its content and understand what it is, saying, and demonstrating? Or are you retards that just latch on /pol/ terms on top of garbage tv and movies so that you never have to engage with it and dissect it on its terms, but instead fabricated arbitrary terms youve imposed onto it socially?

If you want to watch a show about global diplomacy or spies watch the Sandbaggers, everything copies this badly. It makes them all look like children.
>>
>>221794539
I didn't really want to watch political stuff after trying with the Diplomat, I mostly watched Rubicon because I heard such high praise for it as a High IQ show. But honestly it somehow put me in the mood for a political show with real nuance and seeming understanding of historical contexts and political philosophy I guess.
Ill check out sandbaggers thanks. Seems old but looks good

I haven't watched Rubicon but I'm recently watching Silo and apparently Iran is a threat in this series as well, in 2049
>>
>>221794005
When they nuke New York I can't wait for your hot takes that we deserved it because 100 unphotographed kids supposedly died in some random building.
>>
>>221794709
I know you're insane, and I know that I appealed to that insanity by starting off with a political diatribe, but can we please talk about how genuinely kind of bad Rubicon is for a show that is talked about so much as top tier and high iq?
>>
>>221794677
>but I'm recently watching Silo and apparently Iran is a threat in this series as well, in 2049
kek no way. I tried watching silo last year and it would be genuine garbage once i realized the show would legit just let the little girl version (flashback) of the main character run off to be an engineer with no formal training and work carrying heavy objects off, and let that slide
so i stopped watching it
>>
>>221794897
That's the part that was unrealistic to you? Woke tv shows have a lot of garbage subtext that you can call out, yet you clung to the lowest hanging chudritique, she trains under that old hag lesbian to become an Engineer for years, that's why she went down, not because could fix everything day one

Did you even watch it?
>>
>>221795066
She was a little girl retard are you kidding me? it doesnt matter what hag she trained under, she wouldnt be doing engineering shit at like 12
>>
>>221795336
And she wasn't fixing everything day one dumbass, she was in sorting duty for recycling, that's when she became friends with that mixed raced butch foid, she wasn't lifting any heavy stuff
>>
>>221795500
You've never done any physical labour that requires any prolonged lifting if you think it matters how "heavy" one or more particular items are, and if you think that any fucking sane employer would ever employ a little girl. She shouldnt have gotten that retarded job in the first place. Her entire run away from home fantasy was contrived and made no sense from the start, its the type of shit you see written in YA, because they constantly overestimate the capabilities and proclivities of children for the sake of "interesting" and "tense" storytelling, so what ende up happening, is that social structures that would normally exist, and should have some purpose, influence and effect, become conveniently and arbitrarily broken down for the sake of letting children who grow up into slightly older children (20s) to easily dismantle some retarded system. Just look at Harry Potter and how everything centers on Hogwarts one fucking school, and the authorities are basically retards that do nothing and can never do anything so that the kids can get their stage to shine.

When you allow kids to start doing retarded shit from the get go, you undermine the entire world buildings implicit buy in, that anything about this society is real and actually matters, and not instead a toy for the author to give to their main character to play with conveniently how ever is needed to imitate an artificial tension and conflict to be overcome.

you have no idea if this is your first instance of this. go watch delta force. theres probably earlier instances of it. but thats from the 80s. jews hiding jew rings because terrorists hijack plan and will kill them if they are found out.

Why was everybody so wrong about Iran? And more importantly why do they even pretend with the pretense that America let alone israel is above Iran's "vileness" simply because "Democracy"? I find it hard to believe you can lay any moral claim to a highground when you would kill millions of people, and violate borders and sovereignty with little care. At that point, any appeal to democracy is normative. It cannot be justified by any moral virtue other than the fact that "More people adopt it, and more people thrive under it" But even ignoring the U.S's deliberate and blatant attempts to hijack anything that could challenge democracy or propose another political or economic system (and sometimes even hijack democracy itself, look up Iran's history). Based on that appeal you could justify slavery based on norms of the past aswell. You can't appeal to norms without implicitly suggesting that nothing should ever change, because nothing could ever be more normal...until it is. But the U.S has done a good job of making sure that global capitalistic democracy is the only thing there can be to succeed and thrive.

Rubicon is for >120 iq you just got filtered. None of your criticism means anything

>Ummmm, actually the backwards dictatorship run by terrorists is GOOD, actually
Ok, thanks for the input, Muhammad.

Wrong! Easily the most cerebral tv show with quality cinematography and characters. Dont say person of interest is better.
