It's quite easy to assume everyone working on it had 'their job' and just assumed those changes were someone else's job, someone else's responsibility, and that that person knew what they were doing. On a project like this nobody understands everything about how it all fits together. I'm not a numbers guy but somewhere out there there is one who can crunch the numbers on how long a single architect spends on a house, how big the death star is in comparison to a house, and how much time it would take to plan it, and that person, were he here, would inevitably tell us there is no way this project would be accomplished in a reasonable timeframe without being a massive collaborative effort.In the eighties, we assumed people were smart enough to think about things like this. We also assumed people were smart enough to recognize that the reason the movie doesn't explain them is because it isn't important to the plot. It's a movie about the rebels fighting the evil empire, not a movie about the perils of superstructure engineering. But nowadays everyone nitpicks all these 'plot holes' instead of just using their fucking heads, and I'm sick of it, and sick of filmmakers responding to these nitpicks like they are serious criticism.
