Why is The Goonies so fondly remembered when Monster Squad is the superior movie?

The unreleased version had the Jewish guy as the real monster, who was trying to sacrifice the kids to Moloch and the monsters were really under his command. I like the movie how it was but that would have been Kino but maybe a little too much for a kid’s movie.
