In the original Star Trek canon Starfleet Academy is shown to have an absurd selection standard (I personally found it a bit too "hard for hard sake") where students are stern and only occasionally get up to the usual student hijinks (like killing their classmates while doing illegal maneuvers and covering it up).The clips I saw from this show made it look like kindengarden.

The best Trek right now is straight up Star Trek: Starfleet Academy and it’s not even close. Instead of another bald captain giving speeches while the warp core explodes, we get space college with absolute alien chaos. You’ve got Andorians beefing with Vulcans in study hall, random tentacle cadets stressing over exams, and half the class having an existential crisis about the Prime Directive before they’re legally allowed to pilot a shuttle. The diversity isn’t just background NPC filler either — it’s the whole point. Different species, different cultures, all crammed into one Federation dorm trying to figure out who they are and whether they actually deserve the uniform. It feels like classic Star Trek ideals but filtered through sleep deprivation, midterms, and raw ambition. It’s messy, it’s dramatic, and it actually shows how Starfleet officers are made instead of just spawning fully formed on the bridge.
