The only scene that really engaged me was the Trojan Horse one, a gritty and realistic yet still faithful rendition. The rest is pretty bad yeah, definitely doesn't capture the spirit of the epic and feels like generic Hollywood slop. It doesn't even have the famous "I'm Nobody" line. The structure is also all over the place, no way normies will enjoy this.
>>
so is the film actually set in the future or was that all a cope for people in denial of how bad it looks?

Cope, though they do try to give it a "the true history behind the epic" angle by tying the story a bit to the Bronze Age Collapse and the Sea Peoples. It doesn't resolve any of the problems, but that's the closest thing to a setting twist that people were expecting.
>>
>>221803802
It's actually the most accurate line by line adaptation of the Odyssey, anon.
>and Odysseus, faced with the fury of the giants, swung his blade
>while his men, following the ruddiest of them all, ran into trees of dubious width and durability
>when upon discovering their error, their thoughts lay with their leader, his struggle continuing
>turning their backs, they faced yet more trees of twig like density, yet break through them they did not, for reasons heretofore unknown to man, nor god
>and yet Odysseus continued to hack awkwardly at the large men, bereft of the knowledge of any choreographer of combat
>while his men stood facing their deaths, delivered to the gates of Hades by the largest of men, stabbing effortlessly through the bars of their feeble prison
>their deaths were of the most painful of extremes, though sizeable men they were in life
>for you, reader of their story, inheritor of their tale

The movie is actually so bad that the woke and DEI aspects of it actually take a backseat to the simple criticism of atrocious editing, atrocious dialogue and acting, and dull cinematography. The whole 3 hours of it is just a torture to sit through. Nolan takes the adventure completely out of it and it's just a bunch of modern anglocentric therapy-core with white male self-flagellation and occasional feminist activism.

The screen is higher and that's it
>>
>>221807020
depends. I saw dark knight in IMAX when it released and it was fucking incredible. If a movie is filmed and built specifically for IMAX it's good, otherwise YMMV
>>
>>221807020
Go look up a size comparison of film.
A fame of imax film is 70mm.
The film you would have used in your parent's old camera was only 35mm.
That means you have a much bigger surface area to catch each frame, which translates to more detail.
Also an imax screen is fucking huge.
Have you really never been to a big museum of theme park that had an IMAX screen?
If you want to shoot on film its the best format, it is also super expensive and a pain in the ass to work with. Since the cameras are so fucking big, and need to move 24 frames a second the on-board motor is LOUD as fuck, so if you're shooting with an imax camera you're not catching any sound on set.
For this movie nolan had them build an imax camera that was built to be quieter, which just means it has massive cowlings full of sound insulation.
Even movies that shoot in Imax don't do it 100%, using regular film for most of the movie and then switching to IMAX for the money shots and big sequences, because if you're just filming mundane bullshit you don't need to be burning a shitload of money just so you can say you shot the whole thing in imax.

Weak Homer posting. You need to have about a quarter of it be similes comparing violence to farming or lions or bucolic scenery. Also need more epithets, stock phrases (e.g. shining bronze) and absurd gore. Or you could make it first person like most of the odyssey parts of the Odyssey.

Really does not. Aside from barely being in it to begin with to justify 'carrying' the film, there's just nothing spectacular about Pattinson's performance. He doesn't hook you in with a theatrical flair or a distinct voice. Like the rest of the cast outside of Holland, Damon, and Hathaway, he's barely given any room to do anything that would even be interesting enough to distinguish himself from any other actor who's played Antinous in the countless Odyssey adaptations that have come before.
His entire role is just conniving and mildly sleazy. A handsome face playing the part exactly as you would expect.
None of the actor's in this film give a particularly noteworthy performance to be fair. At best you could maybe justify some nods to Hathaway. But to be fair, they're all hamstrung by Nolan's clinical and overly modern dialogue. Fucking Willem Dafoe would have trouble getting any juice out of a Nolan scene.
Incidentally, if Nyong'o from the Congo gets nominated for ANYTHING for her 'performance' in this film, it will be a travesty, because she's in it for the grand total of like thirty seconds, seriously.
>>
That was not a good movie.

I feel almost exactly the same as after I watched The Last Jedi.

Hard to believe people with this much money and influence are this bad at making movies.

Made all the worse because at first the stream was playing The Odyssey (2016), a French movie about Jacques Costeau, which was quite a lot better even though I couldn't understand a word about it.

Nolan simply doesn't make good movies. Inception was decent, because of DiCaprio and the cool suits and stuff. He is too enamored of cgi and backdrops to have decent characters and dialogue. It was like the Last Jedi, it makes me angry to even talk about it, like I am being molested. It's like going to a really nice restaurant and being charged premium money to eat a bag of doritos. It's not even mediocre, it's just unwatchably boring and pointless and it doesn't make sense why hundreds of millions have been put into it. None of the actors have an ounce of charisma, the costumes look like something out of a walmart halloween section, the music was just a couple notes being repeated tonelessly, the cgi monsters were neither believable nor interesting, the whole thing is like The Last Jedi, it's just constantly wondering how this guy has hundreds of millions at his disposal.

The elliot page and nonwhite characters were completely inoffensive compared to how low quality everything else was. Matt Damon was a horrible Odysseys. Tom Holland was the worst Telemachus one could ask for. The final scene was unbelievable. Robert Pattinson was a good actor, but he played a pointless character who was barely even mentioned in the original epic. Circe was the most unbelievably bad actress imaginable. She was like nails on chalkboard. Calypso/Charlize Theron was a mixture of "shes still got it" and feminism. Charlize Theron and Matt Damon is watching two 60 year olds have segs on the beach, over and over again for most of the movie. Damon looks very fat and puffy throughout.

He's fucking with you, anon.
You personally.

So, in theory, the screen is bigger, and somebody has actually gone into the trouble of properly calibrating both the projector and sound system to ensure accurate color, focus, and other technical stuff. That's really all the various types of theaters are doing, meeting some kind of a standard created by some company or another, and then slapping their marketing label on it. There are different kinds of projectors, too, which have an impact on image quality. On top of that, you have different types of film or digital recording formats and resolutions. The Nolan gimmick of 70mm IMAX film is one such standard. If you go see his film on a 70mm IMAX projector, then you're getting the intended image instead of a different print of it. If that matters to you and you're willing to pay the premium price for that, go ahead. If you don't, watch it on some other screen for cheaper and get almost the same exact experience.
Since Nolan always fucks up his sound balance anyway, I always recommend waiting for a home release format of some kind, which will generally have the sound mix fixed so you can hear what people are saying. That will always be a better experience on whatever screen you actually use. Sound > visuals, always.

It's not looking good Nolanbros. The people are starting to see it.

That doesn't explain why all the shots last all of 5 seconds at most.

The difference between you and me is I knew this was going to be bad and didn't waste a single moment of my time actually watching it outside of brief clips people are showing about how bad it is so I can laugh at it. The entertainment from something like this is always reading/hearing people's creative language in the reviews shitting on it.

So a greek epic has a bunch of black people? And this modern slop has Travis Scott (king of retarded niggers) and a tranny?

Good God the bar is low.

This. This right here. It's almost astounding how bad this is that it eclipses the horrendous slaps in the face of the miscasting and other woke nonsense, of which, there is many. Truly EPIC Nolan was able to pull this off.

Lol I remember all the way back when 12 Years a Slave came out in 2013 when (((journalists))) were calling this boon the most beautiful woman in the world and getting rightfully ridiculed for it. "She" was Patient Zero of the culture war shit if anything.

I wish I could believe Nolan's just trolling them. Still, it's bad enough if he didn't just tell them to fuck off and leave him alone to make good movies instead.
Nolan, grow some testicles, man. You're one of the few directors working today who's actually been good at some point in your career. You can just tell them to fuck off and dare them to criticize you. And notice what fucking time it is.

$250 million is the claimed budget. That number is almost certainly higher. It always is, sometimes significantly. And there's all sorts of ways these numbers get downplayed by excluding certain production costs from the reported total.
Marketing was minimum $100 million, almost certainly higher, and when the backlash first started and they needed to try and manage the bad PR so it wouldn't shock me if it was closer to $150 million all told.
Realistically it probably needs to make at least a billion dollars to be worth the time and money put into this. Anything less than a billion will be viewed, internally, as a serious failure. And they probably were hoping for $1.3+ billion, as unrealistic as those dreams always were. I expect the media to claim anything above $600 million as a stunning and brave success, and if it makes $700 million they'll act like it was the most successful film of Nolan's career and his crowning achievement as a filmmaker.
For reference, The Dark Knight made the equivalent of $1.56 billion in today's money on the budget equivalent of $287 million.

>so bad that the woke and DEI aspects of it actually take a backseat
was thinking this also
no shot from these webms is more than 4 seconds or so and everything looks so bad that the casting is a non-issue at that point

almost a flawless adaptation
if they cut every line about sea people and zeus' law, and used that screentime instead for Telemachus' speech to the elders and Odysseus' banter with the cyclops, then it would be perfect.
oh also Curce was too svary and should have been hot like Helen Clytemnestra and the Athena priestess.

It's a monumental milestone for cinema, to take this greek classic and remaking it for a modern audience takes major talent and both male and female balls. You can really feel the intensity with which Nolan channeled his inner cinematic energy to make this happen, his raw talent really manifests on your local IMAX screen (this weekend, don't forget to bring your mum).
>>
It's crazy you guys don't like the casting.
The nigger bitch with like no dialog kills the Greek God king. It's perfect. I really thought you guys would like le nigger women bad.

Man, there really ought to be more zombie movies set in time periods other than modern day. I know there's some. But make more, and do them well.
>>
Like, imagine if Genghis Khan and his horde were all zombies instead, creeping across Eurasia biting instead of raping.

I don't know if I'd recommend it, exactly, but the one that comes to mind immediately is Overlord (2018). Nazi zombies, the movie.
