Is there a movie that pissed you off?

Donnie Darko comes to mind, with its constant pseudo-intellectual 2deep4u sophomoric shit

Quantum of Solace, not just because it was a bad movie but because of the twist, that the natural resource being schemed over turned out to be water. I was expecting it to be Lithium since half the film takes place in a Bolivian salt flat. Lithium made way more sense.
>>
Moonrise Kingdom. My girlfriend at the time seemed upset that I hated it so much. In retrospect, that may have been a warning.

Alien Covenant
I'd shown the original Alien to my gf the evening before, and was baffed I'd taken her to see such a piece of shit
>>
House of the Devil

It's 80 minutes of a girl faffing about an empty house, and then 5 minutes of her captured and being sacrificed. Then 5 minutes of end credits for a film with literally four actors.
>>
>>221806743
cheap bait and switch endings are pretty much guaranteed to
proportionately to the quality level of the movie preceding the bait & switch
beyond the black rainbow's may have pissed me off the worst cause it was SO cheap compared to such a great fucking non-handholding movie up til then
like they ran out of money and had to come up with an ending and stop filming right on the spot or go bankrupt or something

to a lesser degree a consistent bait & switch that gets me is the "it's their father" fucking cop out for aliens with a big lead up to interesting alien shit
>>
>>221806850
it's based on a true story isn't it? Wouldn't that by definition make more sense than lithium?

not a movie, but the show Silo. literally nothing happens and im almost done with season 1.
>>

You have a million examples of actual pseudslop and you pick out Donnie Darko. That movie is very enjoyable and there isn't much to understand besides the timeline thing.

For me it was Midsommar. It never built up to anything and I had to fast forward the last 20 minutes just to see how it ends and it pissed me off because I shouldn't even have bothered. All these new acclaimed directors are hacks.

I hated this movie. I'd heard a lot about it and a lot of anons talked highly of it, claiming it's great horror. It was just retarded and pissed me off to no end. I just don't get it I guess. I just wouldn't personally categorize it as horror. Thriller, maybe.

And I laughed when Costanza got btfo at the courtroom or whatever that place was, kek. Just his first scene where we see him as a lawyer had me shocked. I just can't separate him from Costanza. Might just be the only thing I liked in this movie.

I think you just missed the point nigga, it's an inversion of the original story, with Gawain depicted as a weak man who fails all his trials but then finds his resolve at the ultimate trial, instead of the original version where he's a strong man who falters at the hardest trial.

FILM: Twelve Angry Men
WHY IT PISSES ME OFF: All the obvious reasons.

FILM: Vertigo
WHY IT PISSES ME OFF: Because people think it's deep when it isn't even shallow.

FILM: Jackson's LOTR trilogy
WHY IT PISSES ME OFF: Because they did all the hard (impossible) things brilliantly and just screwed up on the easy things (pacing, discipline, sticking to the damn book). Every scene is overplayed by 20% and ruined. It could have been so good.

FILM: City Lights
WHY IT PISSES ME OFF: Because Charlie Chaplin is viscerally repugnant.

filmgoing was big back in the day anon. relatively cheaper too. I've also watched masters of the universe twice. peak the first time. still holds up the second time. I once took a girl on a date to see one of the Avengers movies because she loved Robert Downey Jr. It was awful being surrounded by redditors who were clapping and cheering like what they were watching was actually happening. She was a smart girl but I couldn't believe someone as intelligent as her would be entertained by this. This was back in 2013 and I thought the plot was so formulaic a crude AI could write it.

huh? it's got a completely different plot compared to Stalker. have you seen either movie? Stalker deals with existentialist philosophy in a totally different way. I like Annihilation quite a bit but it's nowhere near as thematically complex

The Grey
The whole movie builds up to Liam Neeson fighting a wolf and ends as soon as hes about to

people who love film just as much as you - and many who are more knowledgeable and qualified to discuss film on a technical and historical level - have made it one of letterboxd's most beloved entries
maybe you'll grow up one day and realize it's okay for people to have different opinions without trashing them. i'm sure you like some movies that others would shit on too
>>
>>221806743
this one, saw it on a plane and was raging throughout the end
basically, young girl gets raped and murdered by pedophile serial killer
she's a ghost or something and can stil somewhat interact with the real world
has a chance to reveal her killer to bring him to justice and make her family find her body for closure
ijnstead she spends her last minute on earth kissing the boy she kind of had a crush on
serial killer is free to roam, her family continues to suffer
then decades later after killing dozens of girls and women over the years the killer gets hit by a random icicle and dies in his old age and the movie treats it as just deserts
this is somehow framed as a sappy and good ending
what the fuck

>>221806831

everyone hated it
I wish legitimate harm on anyone that worked on it

On ambiguous thought experiments, like the trolley problem, sure.
When you have definitive proof of something and you state the opposite? No, it's not ok to have that opinion
It's not ok to have the opinion that the earth is flat, and it's not ok to have then opinion that everything at all all is a good movie

Blair Witch was a pop cultural phenomenon. It made a crazy amount of $ on a $7k budget and launched the found footage craze of the 2000s. At this point it's a notable film history milestone, but not necessarily a good movie by today's standards. Also it was the first time a viral internet campaign was utilized and was a crucial part of its success, claiming to be real and fooling many people before most people were online much.
I remember even in 99 the movie was meh but it was fun to talk about.

>>
>>221813870
>>221809432
Perfume is only bad because of the ending and the guy deciding to off himself for no reason (plus the people pulling him apart for also no reason)
For the movie and book to be perfect, the evil guy needed to win, and just drift off, unseen. Like a Jack the Ripper movie, he was a force of nature and nobody could stop him, the end.

I thought it was a nice spin on the heist formula. Learning about each person's role as we're taught the mechanics of the dream world. For me, the dream world and its mechanics elevate it beyond just a heist movie. Different dream levels, slowing of time, out-of-bounds limbo, gravitational effects, totems, subconscious projections, deep sleeping to live forever, and of course inception itself. There's a lot here, and I appreciated it more on second viewing.
>hp
I really like the world they made here. It's mystical and inviting but slightly sinister. Doesn't coddle children too much. The British casting gave it a distinct feel. I thought they did the first two books justice, but I've never gone back to re-read them.

It's an okay movie but nothing happens in it. The protagonist is the stereotype of the guy who doesn't care about morals and screws people over for personal gain and gets ahead in life. The kind of person you imagine climbs the corporate ladder and ends up in the highest positions. And that does make for an interesting character, and the movie just chronicles how far he's willing to go to pursue his goals. That's about it. He goes on to own his own proper company by the end and then that's it. It's okay for a one time watch but there's no meat in the plot.

look at the city bending wow amazing is probably when it lost me. poor choice for a movie that has to explain itself over and over. may not be a film but the world ends with you solo remix was it but smarter. yumekui merry also explores the dream zone in a fantasy way.
>The British casting gave it a distinct feel. I thought they did the first two books justice,
it lended authenticity, but harry potter, the golden compass, lord of the rings, these are just better as books. the audio motif is also irritating now, and the movies just got darker and darker in color tone to prove a stupid point about the books being more serious. for people this is their peak fantasy. maybe the cheap cgi nose of the villain and ghost flying straight at the camera did it all in and made it look like a comedy.
>Thought it was a unique take on found-footage
we already had this superhero going out of control with xmen 3 and people gaining powers in it. hancock explored the concept of urban superheroes too years prior. there will definitely be some localized appeal given blair witch project I guess. not 100% certain but pretty sure some aspects of the us godzilla already explored handcam footage especially the fighter jets part.

>look at the city bending wow amazing is probably when it lost me.
But why? It's showing the dream world to Elle, who has never seen it before.
Is this really your line in the sand? Won't watch Jurassic Park because the brontos insist upon themselves.
>the audio motif is also irritating now, and the movies just got darker and darker in color tone to prove a stupid point about the books being more serious
Agreed on the second point. First point is unfair because it wasn't annoying when there were just two films.
>superhero going out of control
I thought chronicle was much better than hancock and xmen 3. Do you disagree? I watched both of those first too.
But yeah, I was talking about the novelty of seeing a non-horror found-footage film with a decent budget.
It was a risk, but they pulled it off (imo). And as a superhero found-footage film, it still seems novel to this day.
>>
>>221818902
Yeah there's no reaction to what would be the most insane thing that can possibly be found but the movie doesn't care. There's a reason people discuss this scene exclusively and its efficacy at startling the viewer and never the broader work or how the scene applies to it thematically. Its just a random fuck horror scene in a shitty mockumentary.

The Dead Don't Die. I don't know what I was expecting, but not that, whatever the fuck that even was.

This movie. I cannot fucking believe absolutely nothing happened at all, the entire film, and there wasn't even a wrap up at the end either. The budget was 2 million which makes sense because literally half of the film is Ryan Renolds in a box in the dark.

>pseudo-intellectual 2deep4u sophomoric shit

Are you serious? All of the characters in the Big Lebowski are idiots. That's why the events of the movie happen.
>>
>>221806743
I guess I'm racist or whatever but a white guy / black girl pairing where they don't talk about it is just fucking weird to me. Like, the actors were fine, I love Joel Eggman or whatever his name is, but if the guy is white and the girl is black you have to at least acknowledge it. Otherwise it's just weird.
>>
>>221810757
>the mist ending was great
It truly was one of the funniest endings of all time
>>
Most recent example I can think of is Knives Out, I only just saw it at the end of last year. Didn't know that much about it going in, just wanted a fun murder mysterty/whodunnit, instead got hilariously hamfisted political propaganda about le ebil white people and le good and wonderful and angelic immigrants
>>
>>221820962
>if the guy is white and the girl is black you have to at least acknowledge it

Ok I get this is 4chan and it's a haven for racists/incels but what the fuck do you expect from movies specifically when you say this? Like does every black actor need to say "remember when I pulled up to your suburbs" to their white female co-star regardless of contexts? What the fuck are you talking about?

curious what direction you think this could have gone. Not being facetious, I have the same feeling.
>>
>>221821788
Yeah, that really is it. I was expecting more of a twist or something? But its just Reynolds in a dark box wimpering like a puppy until he gives up and dies... Actually no he does that once and then has hope and tries again, but then gives up and actually dies..
>>
>>221821432
I would prefer two white leads or two black leads. Having a mixed race lead couple but not acknowledging it is a bizarre and performative choice.
>>
>>221822081
Cruel twist endings are almost never actually good or even shocking. Most the time you just leave the theater or shut the movie off, commit to never watching it again, and forget about it as a waste of time.

Some movies pull it off or arguably even need them, but most the time its just the writer trying to be more clever than they really are.
>>
>>221822193
Thats whats confusing to me though, the cruel twist ending happened and then he gave up the first tine.. Then he fights back, only to give up again and actually die. That specficially is what made the entire film feel like a waste of my time.

Not all his movies he provided, but I agree with the sentiment. Its often poorly done and just makes the movie feel like a waste of time. Like fire and forget entertainment meant for single use consumption. Watch, grimace, shut off, never mention again.
>>
>>221819240
My problem with Inception was that I didn't care about the main characters. Like oh no if they die in the dream they wake up! And their ultimate goal is... What again? That scene at the cafe where DiCaprio explains shit to that woman with the airstrip for a forehead is so badly done and laughable with the "epic" music playing on the background

>Is this really your line in the sand?
I hate sand. Its coarse, its rough, its irritating and it gets everywhere

>First point is unfair because it wasn't annoying when there were just two films.
I legitimately get angry now when they play the hypno tune and show one or two film props in a room and demand people throw them money for a lame forbidden forest experience and when they prod with overpriced merch and butterbeer that tastes like crap instead of apple juice with overpriced legos. Warner brothers greed knows no bounds. Also the book had harry literally hugging quirrel to death with the power of love and they ruined it with slow motion effect slop and now I'm angry now you frickin fricks and your wizarding fantasies can't ever be quenched can they

>I thought chronicle was much better than hancock and xmen 3. Do you disagree? I watched both of those first too.
I give props to even subpar films for giving an attempt, but if you wanted shaky camera experience its an experience in every 4d cinema ride at themeparks and especially spy kids 3d. Tbf I give no extra points to spider noir for being in black and white either.
>but theee concepttttt
idk you'll see me watching advent children and that is probably better executed

Speaking of which, eagle eye and terminator genisys and reign of fire belong in a bin too. Those were better as games, the first being portal, than as film.

There are dirty, sweat pants wearing Euros ITT who think this is "peak" and one of the FUNNIEST and MOST AMAZING movies ever made.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gmFRPs8Bi48

I hate it, it's vile. It's like a horror concept that wasn't even good enough for the Pee Wee Herman show and was made into a full movie.
>>
>>221812290
I haven't seen any of these beyond the BEST ROBARRI scene but just looking at the synopsis is enough to annoy me.
>the gang does all this stuff and has a big fight scene and a chase and uh oh they're in trouble
>but then it turns out it was all a trick and they never left the room! magic!
Fuck off.
>>
>>221806743
Any horror movie with more than 1 jumpscare. Fucking lazy.

Avatar 2 and 3. I've never heard anyone quote it. I've never heard anyone reference it. I've never seen anyone post a funny gif from it. I suspect normies are like me - they think the movies are horrible. But unlike me, they can't stop themselves from continuing to pay to see them. The movies make me angry because that money could've gone to 4-5 different films that were attempting to be creative.
>>
>>221808672
The entire movie was built around him being in purgatory, it wasn't just a twist at the end.

Remember what the chiropractor said about seeing angels as demons because they're trying to make you let go?Remember when the doctor told him he couldn't go home because he was dead?

The chiropractor took him out of the hospital and called them animals because he was the only angel there that wasn't just treating this as an annoying, tiresome job, and had empathy for the main character.

Dude I think about It Comes at Night more often than I should that movie is atrocious
There's one really creepy scene in it where there's a man standing behind the tree the dog is looking at, and it implies that there are squatters living in the house, but the movie never does anything with that so I'm pretty sure it was just a production error they didn't care to fix

Cameron is legit a dimwit, I have a friend who is a huge Cameron fan and don't get me wrong I like most of his work too but I'm friend has repeatedly asserted Cameron's a genius, ot just as film maker but in general like an extremely high IQ guy. Drives me fucking nuts

They're there so that if you spot them you're extra tense and on edge for the rest of the film, knowing that not too far away from the house there's unidentified guys with unclear motives.

>>221824753
I liked the movie but I'm not alone in that, it was extremely well received. Not much of a "filter" if the majority of people responded positively
>>
>>221823926
I saw the first sonic movie and thought it was cute how the lead couple are a hot black chick and her white boyfriend and I particularly liked how they didn't acknowledge it. Disappointed to hear they acknowledge it in the sequels, feels kind of inappropriate for a kids film especially sonic to even reference race. Kids movies unless it's relevant to the plot should have the racial politics of like 90s elementary school culture where no one sees race, a more innocent better way of seeing things

>with money they made working for al capone
>but its the 1930s in the deep south
>and their landlord is in the plan (this plot thread only becomes relevant for a pretty pointless action scene at the very end of the film after the main conflict has been resolved)
>and now forget basically all this shit because this is really a vampire siege action movie for the next forty minutes
Just way too much shit going on
