It’s been like that for years

because most imax screens are barely different from a standard screen
>>
They should release the matte print versions too desu
>>

they do

test

People are noticing because movies used to be filmed with both screens in mind. The IMAX footage would be a bonus. Now they're framed with IMAX in mind and sloppily cripped like a bad fullscreen dvd back in the day.

Movies should just be fucking squares. So sick of shit getting cropped out.

The imax versione of Dune 1 and 2 were not released on blu ray
>>
Makes no sense to crop it, they should just scale it and keep the proportion.
>>
>>221810656
normal cinema screens have a 2,35:1 ratio
>>
Wow, it's almost like 4:3 was the best ratio all along.
>>
>let's film a movie with a specific vision
>okay now let's just crop out half of the image
Why would someone ever do this?
>>
>imax : thick blue rectangle in every shot
Nah, I'm fine with standard. This is like the 90s, when "wide screen" meant they put thick, black bars on the top & bottom of the screen. Pointless.
