Is it possible to like a movie this much? Was The Odyssey THAT good?
>>
They said this same exact shit last year with PTA's film and Sinners
>>
>>221813256
Sinners is a masterpiece compared to this slop
>>
it's pretty funny that you can't trust any reviews for this movie
>>
>>221813231
Yes. I was feeling the same, and verge on crying when it ended.

I'm watching it illegally right now, so I'll let you know.

Hollywood marketing and hype is basically soft hypnosis and mind control perfected as a science over 100 years. some people fall for it more than others.
>>

Why would you watch a shitty camrip jesus christ
wait until it arrives and pirate
>>
I was looking at the page for Asteroid City and it's fucking ridiculous the score for it is 3.5. It's not a new observation but this site is legitimately dead in terms of getting a decent gauge on the quality of a movie because they've already determined the directors in their circle of blind loyalty.

Is your body having a physical reaction to the pure filmmaking magic you’re currently experiencing?

Brave. Powerful. Choose two.

has any movie ever made your body start shaking anon?
>>
>>221813231
The same happened during my screening. At the end when the dog died in joy seeing Odysseus half of the cinema started to cry.
When it ended everybody stood up and there was a standing ovation at least for 10 minutes. Ive never seen such a thing in my life, truly a day to remember.

Its all just social signaling. Just like the star war disney sequel 2 by Rian. It was culturally known as 'theirs' so they must lavish praise upon it to let their fellow wokies know their stance and of course to own the chuds
>>
>>221813231
lol, the soundtrack was pots and pans banging together. Shut the fuck up.

I remember a brief time where letterboxd want so performative and faggy, it’s crazy (not surprising) that babbling, retard freaks get so many likes on reviews that read like the phrase “premature ejaculation”. Disgusting!
>>

>I found my body having a physical reaction
So you piss and shit yourself, incredible
>>
>>221813538
Same here. This movie is an absolute masterpiece. Nolan just dropped the greatest epic of our lifetime. The theater was dead silent for the last 40 minutes and then half the audience was straight crying during the final reunion. When the credits hit people actually stood up and applauded, first time I am seeing this in Europe. Easily the best film of the decade, maybe even the century.
>>
>>221813303
>it's pretty funny that you can't trust any reviews
You could have stopped there
>>
>person on letterboxd is a performative pseud
Whoa, stop the presses!
>>
>>221813231
It is that good.

I am literally trembling as I type this. I just got home from the theater and I still can't stop crying.
Multiple times during the movie my body went into full fight-or-flight. I was shaking, tears streaming down my face, barely able to breathe. The final act destroyed my soul in the best way possible. When the lights came up the entire theater was sobbing and gave the longest standing ovation I've ever witnessed. Grown men were openly weeping.
Nolan didn't make a movie. He performed a religious experience in 70mm IMAX. Ludwig Göransson's score rewired my DNA. This film is on a level beyond human comprehension.
Christopher Nolan is not just a director. He is a god walking among us. This is the greatest piece of art ever created by human hands. I am forever altered. I need to see it again immediately.
>>
>>221813488
Well, to be honest, I'm only 10 minutes in, and I can't complain. The pacing and the dialogue are good. The only glaring weirdness so far came from Travis Scott as the bard in the opening. He's very noticeably not a trained actor or a talented one, so that was a really stupid choice. Small roles like that can have a huge impact.

>>221813400
I'm too impatient for that.
>>
>>221813231
I’m still sitting in the parking lot because I physically cannot drive right now.
This movie didn’t just move me — it rearranged my entire being. I was ugly crying by the midpoint, full body shaking during the climax, and when it ended the theater exploded into applause and cheers. People were hugging strangers. I’ve never seen anything like it.
Nolan just created the new gold standard for epic filmmaking. The visuals are biblical. The score is transcendent. The emotional weight is crushing. This is what cinema was always meant to be.
I went in a casual fan. I left a disciple.
Christopher Nolan has ascended. This is the greatest film ever made. Period.

why are nolan stans so deranged ?
>>
>>221813231
Judging from what he’s saying here, this guy obviously had a stroke in the theater which lead to severe brain damage so I don’t mind giving him a pass for being this gay.
>>
>>221813743
Because we just watched one of the greatest films ever made and you're still seething in the catalog calling it mid because Helen wasn't white enough for your autistic standards.
Normal people experience art and feel something. You experience art and immediately start crying about "woke" and "muh source material".
That's why we're "deranged". We actually enjoy things instead of being terminally online contrarians. Touch grass.
>>
>>221813231
I have no words.
I just sat through the most overwhelming cinematic experience of my entire life. My hands were shaking the entire third act. I was crying so hard during the ending that I could barely see the screen. When the credits rolled the whole theater stood up clapping and cheering like it was a rock concert. Multiple people had to be comforted by strangers.
Nolan just dropped a masterpiece that will be talked about for generations. The ambition, the craft, the emotional devastation — it’s all perfect. This is what happens when a genius is given a blank check and total creative freedom.
I am emotionally drained in the best possible way. Christopher Nolan is the greatest director alive. This film is a miracle.

I'll let you know, but so far I haven't expelled any flatulence or fecal matter.

I also like the style of speech being used. It's very articulate American English. It's not the sort of thing you hear often in cinema.

This isn’t just a movi, it’s a transcendent experience. I was fighting back tears for the last hour straight. During the climax my whole body was shaking. When it ended the theater exploded into the loudest applause I’ve ever heard, with people openly sobbing. I’ve never seen a film unite an audience like this.
Nolan has reached god-tier filmmaking. The visuals are breathtaking, the emotional depth is crushing, and the ambition is unmatched. This is the kind of cinema they’ll show in film schools for the next 100 years.
I feel like I just witnessed history. Thank you Christopher Nolan.

Not OP but I just finished skimming throught it a few minutes ago, it's a fucking slog. Damon is a charisma vacuum, Nolan is constantly ripping you across time and space from Present Day Damon, to Present Day Ithaca w/ the Suitors, to random flashbacks that can be inspired by either Damon or the storytellers back home.

Zendaya randomly shows as the apparition of dead athena - with as much aplomb as an angry housewife. "Your men cut my head off so now im gonna pout at you the rest of the movie"

It all feels long for the sake of being long, and theres tons of jumpcuts between flat shot after flat shot. Dialogue is atrocious. You have seafaring language like 'port' and 'mutiny' in a time period where those words didnt exist.

Monsters arent particularly interesting and the way they're presented and shots are edited feels like they're trying as hard as possible to keep this from veering into campy trash. The only mildly amusing scene in that regard is the pig transformation, but even that drags.

Overall, 5/10 for the sheer amount of effort, even though most of it doesn't show through

The fact 4chan was against this movie and the mods posted that heckin reddit "netflix may allow this crap" bullshit proved that 4chan is just reddit now
>>
>>221816286
Is that a reason to suddenly use those words? As opposed to traditional words used in the time period?

I'm not really sure what your point is besides showing that you're upset
>>
>>221813231
It’s getting the sinners treatment. It’s probably a B to B+ movie that they’re going to treat like the greatest thing to ever grace cinema because it features a negress in a prominent role. You’ll watch it, think… “that was decent”, and probably never watch it again.
