This scene doesn't work, only because it breaks the flow of the movie.
I could make this scene work with some experimental editing. Put a humming sound throughout the whole first act, it keeps getting louder and louDER AND LOUDEER
then cuts to bird sounds when it gets to this scene. And pull up the exposure. Make it dream-like.
