A prophetic masterpiece
>>
is it actually that bad? I refuse to believe prime De Palma made a terrible movie
>>
>>221818273
It’s one of those movies that got shat for saying all the quiet parts out loud. Also starts with “yep that’s me I bet you’re wondering how I got into this situation”
>>

Movie is mid. Not nearly as bad as some people make it. It's got some fantastic shots, but it's mostly boring and empty. Book about its filming is must read, though. Gargoyle shot and plane landing are top cinema, but Palma had nothing to do with them. He just sent B team to shot some establishing shots.

Is the book itself any decent? I like 80s yuppie shit.
>>
>>221818375
The book is one of the best novels of the 80s and the most prescient books ever written if you lived through 2020 hysteria
>>
horrible title
>>
>>221818375
The book is miles better than the movie, much smarter and more cynical.
Also, Bateman and McCoy from Bonfire of the Vanities both work at Pierce & Pierce

>im rich, my world crashing down around me and I must use and destroy every resource at my disposal in order to survive, including burning all of the affluent things I don't need but like
Much better title

The descriptions of working as a bond trader and his income along with his apartment and expenses is really interesting. Wolfe researched this book really deeply hanging out with all the wall street guys, the detectives and the race hustlers in new York at the time
>>
>>221818171
Melanie Griffith is badly miscast. Bruce Willis was badly miscast. Tom Hanks was badly miscast. Sherman was already in a Wall Street movie as Charlie Sheens coworker. He's right there John C McGinley

bruce willis sucks
>>
>>221818854
Honestly steve, he could be your brother
>>
>>221818885
he was very good at playing one type of character one way, with an extremely fragile image of it that he knew and overprotected like an ass
>>
>>221818940
kek
>>
>>221818885
I liked him in Death Becomes Her and 12 Monke.
>>
>>221819189
Fifth Element, Sixth Sense. He's been in a ton of good movies
>>
>>221818171
The sad thing is realizing it wasn’t prophetic. It was describing the time it was written. Nothings changed in almost 50 years.
>>
It's one of those right-wing propaganda pieces about the so-called "liberal media" that stuck out like a sore thumb in the 90s because it was so obvious what it was and smart film critics called it out.

But nowadays? It's just another tuesday.
>>
>>221820330
Yes but it was isolated to a few urban areas not the entire country
>>
>>221820411
I like how no one is going to call you on your bullshit because they’re too afraid of being “baited.”
>>
>>221820812
The plea bargain system wasn’t not isolated to “a few urban areas.”
>>
>>221820411
What was propaganda about it?
>>
>>221820863
Wtf does this have to do with anything?
>>
>>221821192
It’s one of the book/movie’s core subjects. As the overloading of the court system is the main reason the judge is willing to let bullshit slide if it gets this stupid fucking case off his plate.
>>
>>221818273

There are some great moments and shots floating in an ocean of muddled nonsense. It's not atrocious, but it's not good and nowhere near what the average movie goer would expect from a star studded DePalma movie.
>>
>>221821916
>muddled
I don’t understand is this critical or supportive please tell me I don’t understand!
>>
De Palma has made more shitty movies than good ones
>>
movies need to adopt something like the yellow paint idea from gaming to let people know when the important things are happening
>>
>>221823270
But he still made Blow Out and Body Double so he gets the eternal pass.
>>
>>221818375
Me too, can you recommend any books or movies?
>>
>>221818171
It's a good movie.

>b-but it's not like the book!!!!
Fuck off you pretentious retard. This is a MOVIE. Not a BOOK.
