it's crazy how lawrence of arabia mogs all modern cinematography despite being filmed like 60 years ago. now every scene looks like it was shot for discovery channel or random newsreels
>>
>>221819343
normies dont care. 9/10 people who bought tickets for this probably dont even know what the Iliad is and never thought about this movie further than
>the guy who made batman and interstellar just released a greek movie with matt damon in it oooooohhh
>>
>>221819419
i'd say this phenomenon started around 2010, possibly earlier, but I can't quite picture what's wrong with it. probably has to do something with the modern cameras and the editing - I'm not that knowledgable.

anyhow, it makes everything look the same, even with good costumes and cinematography (unlike nolanslop); like they're netflixslop

the fact that nobody in any of these Elon Musk backed threads posts the circe animal transformations scenes here is proof that you are all sons of bastards and trump supporting zionist rapists.

because you all know how fucking awesome that scene was

it will destroy your narrative if you post that scene here because that scene alone will make everyone rush into the theaters to see this masterpiece
Ps: Yes you heard me right. All this anti Nolan threads were made by financial support from Elon Musk. That faggot is so bitter he wants to see this movie fail.
But it wont. Elon will suffer in hell because he is a rapist and Nolan will go down as the greatest film maker of our generation.

Nolan uses film and large format cameras, it's not that. They just the craft. Cinematography is lost art. If you can't position camera well, position lenses and go for a wide deep look, you fake it by using narrow focus, and blur the background. At least you'll get something half good with it. It's not great, though.

>the shitty editing and special effects and costumes and acting and casting and dialogue will all get better in HD
>>
>>221819343
The movie has that weird feel to it, reminds me of Noah if you remember that. Where it feels off, where despite the period its suppose to be set in it feels way too clean and uses over designs costumes and camera flips and cuts constantly, like theres no scenes where its just a camera bolted to the floor and you see the actors act, theres always like 10 cuts for a character just standing still talking and the action scenes constantly chop chop chop, you never get a chance to get a feel for the space that the people are in. Also I could not get over the accents, it doesnt work. Its like dude bros trying to do theatre when they try to speak in airsm Matt Damon trying to give speeches on the nature of man and sounding like a frat bro just does not work, and the other characters talk too modern for the period its set and it feels "off".

Ill describe the positive reviews as such; deny the body nutrition and it will happily gobble poison. The people praising this praise marvel slop, so when something cuts just about that it is a masterpiece to them.

You know, there's actually nothing wrong with super-stylized and exaggerated costuming, but the WHOLE movie has to be like that. You can't have half the cast in super-stylized costumes and the other half in washed-out, beat-up "realistic" costuming. It looks like fucking shit and confuses the artistic intent.

Blocking and composition are basically dead artforms because the camera is constantly moving; even closeups have to be a slow push in. Or you get picrel where they just fill up half the screen with the other actors back so you don't even have to bother with composition.

i think its the fact that nolans odyssey has extremely flat cinematography. if they wanted to have these over-the-top artificial comic book tier designs for the movie, they would need to couple it with equally off kilter, artificial, pulpy styles. it makes me think of how interesting the night of the hunter looks with its very blatantly and purposefully unreal and artificial looking scenes and how much that adds to the film.

Here is the real problem: Capeshit isn't selling anymore. Superhero movies are all plastic because they're cartoons. There's nothing inherently wrong with that, but as a consequence it is the only type of film studios are capable of making. The Odyssey was pitched and sold to investors as a superhero movie not a historical drama and it shows. The obvious fakeness of the sets, the costumes, the actors all look fake because it's the same stuff used for The Incredible Hulk and Kick-Ass. Nolan himself is known for Batman, of which only the first one actually adhered to a realistic, pragmatic and realistic feeling world. We are far beyond that and Universal demanded all the characters look simple and easy to read, because Americans are stupid and don't know greeks from each other and cannot be taught to.

Go figure, at least a third of the audience for this is expected to be black. Not because it's a black people move per say but because it's The Summer Blockbuster for 2026. It's slop, it was never not going to be slop, and nobody will remember it a month from now besides the cheap greenscreens and sets.

Am I wrong? Like the whole project is a giant accountant gymnast move, somehow its not a problem that on paper these movies and games lose money year after year. These people pay themselves, then the money just disappears. Wierd.

Something seriously fucked up and corrupted is going on behind the scenes. I dont give enough fuck about TV anymore to know exactly whats up but if I learned anything about how these hateful people operate, then there should be no surprise here.

I read somewhere that the prop master companies have been poached by the many different streaming companies or have retired. There's so much demand for them that they dont have to do any good work and still rake in a ton of cash by retarded directors. Look at rangz of power armor, same problem despite a bajillion dollars spent. Nobody in the 2020s want to actually work hard and it shows, in everything. Nobody has any commitment it's all about maximum profit for minimum effort, because why the fuck would you care about odyssey when the top level people cast people like travis scott and elliot page for it.

Its a combo of a lot of things. In 2010 I think, a massive writers strike started in Hollywood and Hollywood...won and never capitulated to the writers, which explains why the writing quality has dropped so dramatically. Also I think a lot of the veteran Jews who at least sorta cared about making a good movie as a flex to the goyim have retired and either let gays and women or their substantially less competent children take over the helm. You see this in other aspects of society as well. Its a bad combo, these younger Jews aren't as savvy and smart as their formers because theyve grown up in the lap of luxury

Apparently, Emily Wilson, latest translator of the Iliad and the Odyssey, got this notion that the plain translation of these poems is better than the flowery Shakespearean translations of yesteryear I guess she forgot that its supposed to be a poem sung by a bard at symposiums to entertain listeners. It should sound flowery, grand, epic, and "poetic" for lack of a better term. Just further subversion of conventions that ignore the biological reason why such conventions exist and just stops at "its a social construct" as if social constructs arrive out of the ether and not millenia of human experience. I feel like I'm an old man shouting at the sky as I witness the decline, the rot, or enshittification of so much. Im only 30, 30 is young!

the truth is that she wanted to make a dumbed down version for retards, and it worked. Any justification of her shitty translation is just an excuse to make stupid people feel better about themselves, all that matters nowadays is validating the lowest common denominator and that's why everything is going to shit. Why read the old flowery translation that might force you to think and even to look up the meaning of a new word or two when you could read the translation that's written like it's Twilight? Why even read when you could just listen to the audiobook while doing laundry and tell everybody that you've read it? Hell, just ask chatgpt to write a summary of the story and then have it read it aloud for you!

I've seen enough white beerbros and cuckdads with homer simpson looking guts and norton heads to blame it all on the blacks. >>
>>221835149
>She's a marxist propagandist
Trvthnvke. She begins a lecture about this by describing herself as a Goddess when parodying Homer's appeal to the Muses in the beginning of both poems. There was also this recent interview, Im not sure if the same woman, of a supposed classicist whining about some jeet accounts on shitter posting vaguely right wing ragebait with profile pic of classical statues, something that was popular back in the 2010s with synthwave. I shouldn't be surprised tho that college profs want to give their marxist feminist atheist takes on the Classical; afterall, the Classical Greeks are the Fathers of Western Civilisation, so why not destroy the roots after cutting the stem that is Christianity. The Classical and the Christian is how an outside observer, say from China or Arabia, could sum up Western Civilisation

I think you're onto something. This would be an amazing avant garde idea for Nolan's next project. After the breathtaking epic of The Odyssey, he needs to retreat to a more personal character study. Still in IMAX though. I want Elliots neopenis to be the size of a tractor trailer on screen.

The rappers of their time! It's beautiful how Nolan has drawn these parallels for the modern audience. This truly honors the oral tradition which gave us the Homeric Epics.
