Finished this last night and I can't quite put my finger on why it's so shit. It has style and is shot well but there's hardly any substance compared to the first couple seasons. Why did it take place in one night and why did it feel like the Richie show in the end?

The show started to smell its own farts and get too artsy. The strongest thing about it is the characters and their dynamics. However they ignored that for fancy camera angles and long drawn out shots. Taking place in one night could've been fine but it shouldn't have been eight episodes. I still enjoy it a lot because the highs are high but the lows are really low.
>why did it feel like the Richie show in the end
Because Army's story was over and Syd and Richie still had to finish their arcs

One of my biggest gripes was how they turned a night of service into an Avengers style flick for some fuck all reason instead of giving more specific characters their own episode or focus. Instead it all felt so rushed and unorganized
>inb4 b-but that's how kitchens and dysfunctional families operate so it's on purpose!

It was boring to me.

You can work character arcs into the night of service. They did it in the first couple seasons. The later seasons feel like they were mandated by the network and they just went along because etge show was popular. The Bear should've been two or three seasons, max.

it gets bogged down in trying to do "realistic" character drama that ends up occupying too much time. So there's no real sense of organic progression.
Plus it had to give storylines to 10 different characters, for a show that wasn't even doing 15 episodes a season.

2 seasons too long.

1 and 2 were legit good. could have cut and condensed everything else into 1 more season to end strong. Show got a million awards and got full of itself. Became pretentious as fuck and the pestilent it puts fine dining on is kinda ridiculous and I quite enjoy fine dining and I found it too much.

They focused on Richie at the end because he was the shows best character and had the strongest arc out of all of them.

This
S2 was the last good season, even the artsy episodes they were going for. Fell off after 3 for me

Wow. This show is the ultimate example of Americans over-doing it and making their characters way more aggressive than they should be.
Every scene is like a parody. People screaming at each other over the slightest thing. Pulling guns and knives on each other at their place of employment.

lol.
lmao.
