Is there anyway of adapting Homer for cinema WITHOUT being ridiculous?

Or is the source material just too crazy?

The Odyssey is the boring ass ancient story you read in high school. No one was ever thrilled or entertained by it. It's a boring story to begin with. Thats why the most successful adaption is O Brother, which is modernized but also takes enough artistic liberties with the story that it becomes a functional plot that modern humans can enjoy.

There are tons of ancient stories we don't make movies about. The epic of gilgamesh is one.
