Not saying that it's irrelevant. But the priorities between both of those are literally the other way around from what you stated.
By the way: Your beloved Nolan would suck at staging theater plays, even more than he sucks as a photographer. He gets the very basics of visual storytelling wrong. On a stage, a lack of colour weighs much heavier than on film, due to the distance to the audience and the need to be able to tell the actors and the different parts of the action apart.

I'm currently on my Korean movie marathon, tonight's film will likely be Chilsu and Mansu, but the last silent I watched was Tonka Sibenice. It's got some individual great parts (there's a recurring theme of solitude and despair and when real interpersonal connectness happens it's often glimpsed by nonverbal communication, i.e.hands touching briefly, that was one of its peaks) and some scenes heightened by good edition choices but as a whole it felt mildly directed, with a sluggish pace in the second half. But don't let that opinion make you think less of it, I'm glad I watched it.

I think i've pretty much completed films. I get it, you do the IMDB phase in your teens, get a bit alienated and feel like the whole medium is kinda mid. Then you explore arthouse cinema that subverts convention in all the obvious ways. Meandering, conversational French films. Depressing Italian films. Meta Iranian films, and so on. It's all just intellectual entertainment, a different kind of novelty, films only valued for what they are not. You don't like that slow, plotless, Czech film for what it is. You like it for what it is not, what it defies and refuses to be. You keep going, into the most experimental, self-indulgent crap ever filmed. A series of backlit moth's wings. 5 hours of home videos stitched together to look artful. 13 hours of drama rehearsals. At some point it becomes obvious there is nothing profound to be gleaned from any of this. None of this was as enjoyable as watching The Man With The Golden Gun with your dad when you were 8. You've picked up a few favourites, sure, maybe even been a little inspired along the way, but you've also suffered through far more vacuous memes than you ever cared to. Oh well. At least you can sound cool when people bring up Ozu or Visconti now.

Find obscure films. You'll never run out of weird and interesting movies to watch. Watching forgotten contemporaries of beloved arthouse & classics can be interesting. You will find gems in the process. On the other hand, you shouldn't be seeking out your new favorite films. Having that intent keeps your expectations too high and disappointments just as high. 2000 character limit.
