This was actually a neat and well timed cameo for him to do; not only was it something he got to scratch off his bucketlist and he played it straight, but he did it at a time when people long forgot about The Cat and the Hat. One of those small ways of priming oneself for a comeback.
Hope Austin Powers 4 doesn't suck.
