Bots and chuds btfo. It’s pretty damn great. Cyclops and Witch scenes are kino. The third act was deadass epic story telling. Yeah I don’t like that little freak Ellen Page either and Helen of Detroit is miscast but I’ll confirm what everyone else is saying; they’re in so little of the movie that the flawed casting can be forgiven easily. The American accents are a nonissue as well, I never even thought one time about the way they were speaking. The real culprit here is Nolans dialogue, as with all his films, theres too many horrendous lines of dialogue. And just like every other Nolan film, you can get over the bad lines easily because what you’re seeing is pretty damn great. Also some fight choreography is awkward but again, this goes all the way back to Batman Begins. tl;dr: Don’t let the bots and trolls artificial hate campaign on X and youtube discourage you seeing a epic Nolan fantasy kino.

>>221828008Eliot Page is NOT Achiles, is Sinon, a small character from the Enid. Helen is played as a broken myth, she is scarred and broken, then you can understand they tried to make an inverse archetype of the traditional representation.Polyphemus, Laestrygonians, Circe and Caribdis/Scylla are played as horror movie which is fucking great and make you remember the original The Odyssey is basically LOTR of the ancient world.BTW, really surprised by Tom Holland, I thought he will be one of the flaws of the film and he did a good work as Telemachus. Pattinson chews the screen every time he appears.

I guess this is as good a thread as any to ask.Does Odysseus do anything particularly clever in the film? The "I'm Nobody" scene was pretty iconic for establishing him as a trickster with it gone I'm wondering how well his character comes across. Most of the scenes I've seen just show Damon looking confused/sad at things or poorly use a bow.
>>221829331no lol, not a single thing. he gets circe to turn his men back by threatening to kill a pet crow she has, which he "deduces" is her sister (by just naming family members until she says yes. also this is a fabrication and not part of any myth). thats not really the thing that changes her mind though, just him blandly asking her to let his men go home. never bangs circe either cause shes a 50 year old spinster feminist icon
>just turn your brain off
>>221828008>Bots and chuds>bots and trollsLol, stupid shill calling someone a bot, what an irony.
>>221829283It’s interesting because I thought Nolan would stick to the basic concept of the myth and Homer’s tale; instead, he approaches it through an amnesiac Odysseus who gradually regains memories of his lost time.Lines like Sinon’s "exaggerate my story" are great, because they play with how the myth is constructed: after all, we know Homer built the Odyssey around the fall of Troy -which actually happened in Turkey-but the war was largely driven by trade routes and the story is nothing more than an idealized version of history. In that sense, it’s interesting that the film is similar to "Troy", since Agamemnon is portrayed as an asshole in both.
Bane?
>>221829331Masterminds a plan to trick a cyclopsStrategically withholds prophecies from his troopsBasically susses out and outwits CirceImparts "fighting smarter, not harder" fighting strategy that gets passed on to his sonIs an insanely good marksman, which isn't strategy, but isn't exactly brute strength eitherThe 3rd act is basically a sneaky, scheming stealth missionOverall he's not so much a genius strategist or proficiency power fantasy, but moreso an incredibly flawed man plagued with remorse
I saw the odyssey and got a rash and fleas from my imax seat! Also the film has destroyed my libido and I have developed brain fog since seeing it so please look out for your health and do not see this dangerous film.
>>221829453Maybe if we could see it in Imax
>>221829190>Pattinson chews the screen every time he appears.I'm the guy from New Zealand who made a thread last night after seeing the film. Robert Pattinson absolutely does NOT "chew the screen" he was a bland antagonist. You can blame the dialogue i know i did but he did not do a great job as Antonious. I think The Odyssey was worth seeing but don't fucking lie about Robert Pattinson being great in this
>>221829331In the original text, Odysseus is a character who makes many mistakes; it is not until he encounters Agamemnon—who serves as a tragic warning—that he attempts to be more prudent. This aspect is carried over into the film.>>221829373For a film running nearly three hours, it would be redundant to show Odysseus spending a year in a romance with Circe, given that he already lets time pass during his stay with Calypso. This is one of the changes I personally appreciated, as it lends the story a tone closer to horror, moving away from the fantasy-like portrayal usually associated with this episode.

>>221828008It's funny how Nolan chose "The Odyssey" simply to turn it into "Interstellar".Time is the enemy AGAIN.
>>221829719The movie is way more grounded than the myth, no divine intervention so no reason for the "I'm nobody" scene.Besides the "I'm nobody" scene goes hand in hand with the most retarded thing Odysseus do in the myth "hurrdurr I'm Odysseus and you and Poseidon can suck my dick bro, it's not like I'm at sea"
>>221829726youre not even saying or using that correctly, jeet.
This movie sucks because Nolan doesn't understand Homer and Greek culture on a fundamental level. Homer never hid the cruelty, deceit, arrogance or mistakes of his heroes. In the Homeric epics, the negative aspects coexist in perfect balance with the greatness, bravery and existential quest. While Homer presents Odysseus someone who uses his mind both to survive and to protect his companions, the film isolates the “dark” side of resourcefulness, baptizing it exclusively as cunning and malice. This selective reading ultimately does not highlight the truth of the work, but distorts it, transforming a cosmogonic adventure into a dry psychological study of a man devastated by his remorse. In the killing of the suitors, Christopher Nolan chooses not to portray the massacre as an act of glorious justice or heroic revenge, but as a dark, violent, and deeply traumatic climax. Nolan visually parallels Odysseus’ return to Ithaca with the siege and fall of Troy. Arriving at the palace disguised as a beggar, Odysseus acts not as a king claiming his right, but as a mentally shattered soldier carrying the horrors of war into his own home. The massacre is filmed in the director’s raw, muscular, and brutalist style, reminiscent of a military thriller rather than an epic battle. Why, whereas Homer presents the flaws of all sides with objectivity, does the film seem to focus obsessively on presenting the Greeks as the only barbarians and criminals? For Homer, the cleverness and disguise of Odysseus are not insidious cunning, but the only weapon of a mortal against supernatural monsters and gods. The deconstruction of the Greeks and Odysseus in this particular film is not accidental, but is a central axis of Nolan's directorial vision, who approaches the epic through his favorite themes: psychological trauma, existential guilt, and the distortion of truth.
>>221829863Shitty LLM response, your chatbot missed the part where Nolan mixed real history with the myth, the Acheans were the Sea Peoples who caused the Bronze Age collapse.
