I don't even disagree with the sentiment that Bear is a rapist like a lot of you guys do but even so, so much discussion of this film seems to boil down to people saying "Bear UGGHHHH!" and replying "Bear, UGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHH!". There's more going on here than the main character not being a good dude, so why are people so obsessed with constantly signalling that they disapprove of him?

I haven’t watched the movie, but isn’t Bear just making the best out of a bad situation? My understanding is that the only way to reverse the wish is by killing himself or Nikki. Bear also didn’t know that magic was real when he made the wish.If this is true, then females are implying that Bear should kill himself for accidentally voicing a wish. He's an extremely passive character and he really isn't explored that much, so I feel like people project their own opinions on the situation broadly into his character, either as the endlessly selfish and malevolent rapist, or the victim of the wish. He still is a rapist regardless, but I think the film deliberately presents itself in such a way where his response to the situation is insidious instead of just being obviously bad from the outset. As much as people talk about the narrative and the characters as though they have some kind of depth, much of the movie is just a monster movie with Nikki as the monster and Bear as the victim, it's only towards the end that it reframes the events of the film by giving Bear a clear opportunity to end it and the knowledge of how he's harming the real Nikki, only for him to pass it up. The movie as a whole is not some character study of Bear though. I suppose if you're feeling generous you could maybe say his passivity and inaction while still being a bad guy is supposed to be a reflection of the 'nice guy' who seems innocuous on the surface but his cowardice is just a cover for his ignoble and selfish heart.
