These are the rules of my thread:
>this thread is about historical drama-documentaries, drama, mini series and tv series
>they have to be a European production (they are often done in collaboration between different European countries)
>Americans are tolerated in this thread, but do not talk about being an American or your Jewish tv shows, this thread is from Europeans for Europeans

Let's start the thread with kino. Borgia (not THE Borgia, just Borgia) is one of my all-time favorite tv series. It's very historically authentic. Lucrezia Borgia for example isn't a proto-feminist, who complains to Rodrigo constantly that she is to be married without her consent. It's the exact opposite! If anything she wants to be finally be married and has unreasonable teenage girl fears like "ending up as an old unmarried crone", but Rodrigo keeps delaying her wedding for political reasons. The first season is kino of the highest order simply for the papal election.

The Tudors is my favorite especially since I fell in love with the Lady Mary actress who is Irish and close to perfect

/thread, picrel is literally the best historical drama series produced in this century. Mind you I'm talking about S1, I still haven't seen the new season. Everyone's so decrepit-looking in it. Why the fuck did they have to drag it out for 10 years?

game of thrones sucks lol

Written by an Englishman and filmed in Britain with British actors

Second season is rushed and filled with Nigerian Aristocrats. The French sidekick of Cromwell is black and Cardinal Wolseys daughter is Indian

I'm not sure how good the automatic subtitles on this video are. But it is certified kino.

I know that the reputation of the British Broadcasting Corporation has basically stinked during these last (or even more).
But i've heard a lot of good things for "I, Claudius" online.
Should I check it? I'm ok with a more Character driven pieces.

S2 is still very good, almost on par desu. I love the ending. Why the FUCK did they wait so long, though? Norfolk fucking died between seasons.

That's a problem that I see that plagues a bunch of European High Budget Shows, they take ages to get their stuff together for the next season.
>>
>>221836358
>they take ages to get their stuff together for the next season.
and Hollywood (streaming) doesn't?
>>
>>221837462
Eh depends, some take minium around 2 to 3 years to keep things moving.
>>
>>221837503
Yeah, so do American shows now...
>>

You should 100% check it out. I, Claudius is simply amazing. Fantastic acting, great and clever directing and a gripping story. The 'shot on analog videotape' aesthetic takes some getting used to but the aforementioned qualities will draw you in in no time.

Anyone here watching The Onedin Line? Fucking fantastic show that doesn't suffer from hyperactive ADHD editing of today. It's about an upstart shipping company in 19th century Britain and the family drama that surrounds it. Highly recommanded.
Also, anyone watch the Quo Vadis mini series from 1985?
>>
>>221835252
This was mediocre. Too bad because The Borgias can make for some real kino.
>>
>>221836161
Absolutely. It starts out a bit slow, if it does't capture you instantly, stay with it. It's incredibly worth it.

Poldark is a great show I always recommend to everyone.

There's one black character that only shows up in the final season, and everyone is appropriately freaked out at this negro woman wandering around Cornwall
>>
To those shitting on The Borgias: you mean the 1981 kino version or the one with Jeremy Irons?

Probably the most noteworthy show produced in my country in the last 30 years. It's got a bit of game of thrones vibe to it, but not bad. Every ethnicity is correctly depicted at least.
