Well lads, it's happened to me. Turned 30 and got obsessed with the historical age of sail. let's talk a break from odyssey shit flinging talk kino about this period (mid 15th to 19th centuries). Marathoning pic related tonight as I've somehow never seen it but will need more recommendations as I've got a free weekend and a bottle of jamaican rum to help me survive this heat and smoke.
>>221837741>Marathoning pic related tonightHow is watching a two-hour movie "marathoning"?
>>221839088>only person that bumps the thread is a retarded newfaggrim. this board is unusable until odyssey is out of theaters
>>221837741>as I've somehow never seen it Enjoy the kino bro, though it'll undoubtedly depress you to be reminded how far Hollywood has fallen.
>>221839112Watching one movie is not "marathoning," retard.
>>221839112>>221837741I marathoned your post. Now that the dust has settled cast the mongoloid who's going to play you in your biopic. What did I think of it? You should obviously kill yourself immediately. Give me qrd besides how worthless you are because everyone knows that about you already
>>221837741I remember not really liking Master and Commander but it was a long time since I saw it so can’t recall exactly why. Picrel is kino though
>>221839183>>221839185>doubles down on newfaggotrygo back.
>>221839185what did you mean by this?
>>221839255>be 30>just discovered a 20-year-old movie>spergs out over wrong use of words due to ESLkys
>>221839295>spergs out over wrong use of wordswhy do you keep outing yourself?
The Bounty with Anthony HopkinsMoby Dick with Gregory Peck isn't a masterpiece by any means but it looks greatif you like Master and Commander you would probably like Gallipoli by the same director even though it's not a boat movie
>>221837741Enjoy!
>>221839311Watching one movie isn't "marathoning." Is your attention span so shot you can't sit still and focus on a two-hour movie?
>>221839386Ok you must just be baiting me if so congrats it worked lmao
>>221839431I accept your concession.
>>221837741marathon these

>>221839577>I'm 30 year old oldfagnever said or even implied this. the meme isn't even that old idk why you're digging your heels in so badly
who is trolling who right now I can't follow the thread
Hornblower is pretty good. If you like Sharpe you'll probably enjoy it even though I thought it took a couple episodes to find its stride.
>>221839386I think it's time you turn 360° and walk away.
>>221839669It's okay, newfag. Kill yourself
>>221839758keep bumping the thread over odyssey slop bb I need some actual answer posts
It's funny with all the /tv/ memes, the biggest Aubrey and Hornblower fan I've ever met was a 20yo girl.
>>221839183just lurk moreit's a dumb meme
The Bounty (1984)
>>221837741It's fucking criminal there aren't more boat-kinos.M&C and The Terror are the only boat-kinos keeping me afloat lads... the ocean is as broad as it is barrenHeart of the Sea offers brief respite but she be a salty film
>>221839970there's surprisingly littleyou have to go to WW2 to find a few more good films
>>221837741Will women ever understand this movie? My gf didn't understand
>>221839839
>>221837741The one category from this dumb pic reli I never got was boats. Outside of Master and Commander and the Pirates movies, there's not really any boat movies.
>>221840899there are some ww2 naval battles and submarine movies but yea not many
>>221837741absolute bong kino. i highly recommend it.
>>221841120as well as the north water. absolutely great sail boat tv
>>221840899>acting like Hunt for Red October, Das Boot, and Crimson Tide don't existngmi
>>221839508JAG SBAAROOOOW

>>221841193Those aren’t boats
>>221837741this movie is so fucking good, enjoy. I'd also like any recommendations that are similar in terms of just being cool and well made, well paced. and not gay/jewish
>>221841193one of those is a good movie
>>221841290Watch every Peter Weir movie he's one of the best directors ever
>>221837741Black Sails especially if you skip all the scenes with women
>>221841456Good call. Truman show is another 10/10 so I probably should continue with his oeuvre.
>>221839427How did they decide when it's time to wear the hat front to back or side to side?
>>221841170Why was he such a pederast?
>>221840391I absolutely cannot blame them. They're stuck in a ship (some even kidnapped) with a sadistic captain who whips them all the time and now they reach some tropical paradise with naked thirsty women. I would mutiny the shit out of that Bounty.
>>221839211FOID ALERT
>>221842442
>>221842770Gender specific films do not exist. There is just film and it’s for everyone.
>>2218377413 hour sailor kino with Steve McQueen

For me, it's napoleonic warfareWatched through every campaign of his entire life over the course of a few weekshttps://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLUOc2qodFHp-GXFYTYLF_Q-MHyMJyySiL
underrated boat kino
>>221843989secondedhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WXp_WYgzNf8
>>221839211ONE MORE TIME NOW!
>>221842563Blythe actually didn't apply the lash as much as other captains.
>>221837741It's fine. It's missing the real introduction of the characters, though. It's based on a later novel in the series. Original Master and Commander starts with Aubrey in command of a small sloop in the Mediterranean. Go with the books. They're a whole world on its own. Extremely complex sailing wise, with fantastic action and characterization. There exist a companion book that explains the setting and naval terms, but it can very easily spoil some novels, so just go with wikipedia instead. Print a page with rigging and whatnot, and go from that. Not an easy reading, but extremely rewarding.
>>221839970Might not exactly fit the bill, but Das Boot is kino. You know, to tide you over.
>>221845699I actually do sail so the lingo doesn't take me out of the books, but there's just so much technical sailing info I get tired of it vs plot progression or character development. Like how the middle third of Moby Dick is about whale biology.

I just want to see a movie about Shackleton, with a lot of comfy footage aboard a reconstruction of the James Caird
