Shame we're likely never getting a proper Oddworld outing again. Lanning is a victim of feature creep and threw the net too wide with Soulstorm, and a result has killed a lot of the goodwill and faith in the franchise. They should've just stuck to the original Quintology concept; instead we've essentially had nothing the past decade plus that wasn't just inferior re-treads of the original Abe games, and no new meaningful expansion of the world and mythos>>221841952Noice I've got the regular HC myself, any edition is worth a fortune these days. this came out in such an interesting era where a bunch of weird, slightly surrealist fantasy and "ugly-cute" things were in vogue. i dont even know what to call this era, but it was filled with so much unconventional, unique looking stuff. imagine telling people today that the protagonist for your work is a bizarre wrinkly alien goblin-esque creature with its mouth sowed shut. i really miss this time of media creativity

Finally gets to the second chapter of the Quintology and it's just the same story repeated in a lab setting instead of a factory setting, with test animals instead of slaves (Munch). The same fucking story with a frog man and Vykkers instead of bird men and Glukkons. The same shit. Then he says okay the next game won't advance the story either (Stranger). Good game regardless but the series is fucking dead at this point. Somehow by the grace of ODD gaming reboots become popular and Lorne promises a reboot/continuation of the story (New N' Tasty -> Soul Storm) at last. It's been 23 years since the first chapter kicked things off mind you. Then the rebooted series is just another two games of him beating around the bush retelling the same shit. I'm part of the group that lost their good will because it's fucking obvious at this point that the man has no story to tell. Despite promising he had a really good one he wanted to finish for 23 years. If only those evil studios would let him tel it, dang it!

Whereas in Abes Oddysee it's the Mudokons that take over the sentience of other life forms.So the good guys and bad guys both take part in mind control, although abe can do it without the need to get physically attached which is far deadlier and dare i say overpowered. Even munch sends out a broadcast & electrifies things using the power of his brain once augmented It's a wonder how the Mudokons were ever enslaved in the first place with this kind of ability. And the Glukkons are basically octopus which are called Mindflayers in Dungeons & Dragons / Warcraft. It gets me thinking about entertainment media being used as a medium for indoctrination / social conditioning and influencing people to take on certain viewpoints. Even holding opinions contrary to their own best interestsOr how the compromised Glukkons use code words to command the sligs to open vital gates, granting access to the insurgents intent on sabotaging. Really gets the noggin jogginThen the remake modified Molluck to be white because that better suits their objectify of vilifying Caucasians.
