I used to be one of those people who did not understand the Christopher Nolan obsession. Christopher Nolan is one of the greatest filmmakers of all time because Nolan has a rare ability to combine Nolan’s massive cinematic ambition with Nolan’s deeply human storytelling, creating experiences that feel unlike anything else in modern cinema. The soundtracks in Nolan’s films are a huge part of what makes Nolan’s work so incredible, with Nolan’s collaborations with brilliant composers producing some of the most powerful and emotionally overwhelming musical moments ever put to film. I never expected Nolan to win me over, but Nolan’s dedication to filmmaking, Nolan’s attention to detail, and Nolan’s ability to make audiences feel the weight of every image, every note, and every BWAAAAAM have convinced me that Nolan truly stands among the greatest artists in history.
