Its kind of a fucked up movie. On the one hand it wants to convince you this "kid" has a soul. But then throughout the movie it paints him as a purpose built device that has lost his purpose so he keeps trying to get it back. By the end they allow him one last time to do what he was built for. He doesn't grow. He doesn't find a path beyond his design. He stumbles through the ages until he can just be a substitute again. That movie with Robin Williams did the whole concept better. This one just ends up being a weird fairy tale. Its Pinocchio except he never becomes a real boy

not a very good movie, its more fantasy than scifi. my least favorite kind of sci-fi movie. its a scifi movie for humanity grads not engineering majors.

Idiot or trolling, but probably both.

>>221841936
I liked it and therefore it is good.
The ending kinda breaks away from the Pinocchio analogy, but still, definitely not boring.

Jude Law has never been an A lister to me. Good look, very wooden. I’d put Bradley Cooper in this category too.

umm are they retarded? shouldnt it be IA?

Both brilliant and deeply flawed. It is however what it is: Stephen Spielberg's last good movie.

This.

How does anyone like this movie? It is the poster child for heavy handed story telling. So on the nose it may as well be a rolled newspaper.
Strangely Jude Law's purposeful overacting was the best acting and tied w Teddy as only interesting characters.
4/10

Kubrick's version would have looked better but would have the same problem as Eyes Wide Shut; and older man divorced from the modern world and therefore prone to awkward choices. I think the movie would have been better with a puppet instead of a child actor. I've read the short stories the movie is based on and the mood is totally different from the movie.

David became a real boy by becoming the legacy of humanity to the rest of the universe.

that’s the point of the film. something artificial can never be human or have human intelligence.
