i need some ACTUAL horror movies that will not only make me shit my pants and disturb my sleep at night but also stay in my head for at least a couple days after. i've already watched most slasher slop, especially older movies. is this one good? any recommendations? what about the movie that peele directed?
>>
No movie will make you shit your pants unless you are incontinent
>>
>>221843716
anon. movies are make believe. They cant be scary by definition
>>
>>221844151
it depends on if its based on real shit, theres also folk that believe in ghosts or the paranormal. that made me think... is there a good alien horror movie?

This caused boomers to piss, shit, cum, fart, sneeze, and puke in their pants before they fainted from fear.

horror is too subjective to have any real idea what scares you based solely on hereditary. what are some other horror movies that stuck with you as well as some that you disliked?

why did peele do that?

cannibal stuff scared me as a kid, and exorcism shit i suppose but only because we actually do believe in those kinda vengeful ghosts in my religion but now as an adult? nothing really scares me anymore so now i just watch sloppy old slasher movies to give me a feel of nostalgia and maybe comedic value if its dumb and corny.

i also like shit that makes me think, existential dread for example, like the movie that inspired silent hill was kinda nice. i guess what could disturb me are events based on real life, the inherent evil nature of humanity, but thats not always horror i suppose.

I'd say the Haunting 1963 has a pretty unsettling atmosphere about it, and it achieves this without even a drop of blood.
In terms of gorier movies, Cannibal Holocaust is pretty realistic, almost like a documentary movie, you can check it out too.
>>
>>221846971
>As Above So Below
literally one of the worst movies imaginable, I can never understand why I see people recommend it
>>
>>221843716
Hereditary is too artsy fartsy to be scary, the genuinely harrowing moments are the one related to grief and trauma not fear. The ending also turns into scooby doo
>>
>>221847128
only kinda spooky moments I remember are when the little girl is wandering through the party with some song about "pussy popping" playing and when the mom is dreaming about having an argument with her son (or maybe it was the other way around idk I saw it years ago)
>>
>>221843716
Hereditary is ruined by the casting. They make no attempt to explain why these two very Irish looking people have a very Irish looking daughter, and a Jewish Mexican goblin son. How are you these people and not getting DNA testing to see if this brown thing was in a switched at birth scenario? But then to base the entire climax of the movie and the title on us believing this thing that looks like it goes carpet bombing on the streets of Honduras came out of Toni Colette from Gabriel Byrne’s cum is an insult to logic and reason.

So then you might ask yourself why he might be cast in this role then, and it seems like the symbolism is that you shouldn’t trust brown/Jewish looking people if you’re super white, especially if you’ve given birth to one for no reason.

I found hereditary pretty creepy as the main woman in it reminded me so much of a schizo neighbor I once had who would leave Satanist shit on my door etc

But overall, if you have been through some bad shit in real life, horror movies don't really scare anymore.

Real life and reality have the true horrors in life. I love horror movies but to me they are comforting to watch. Not scary at all.
>>
>>221848278
dont think so, i typically dont go beyond 1990s
>>
>>221847085
Kino title.
>>
>>221849109
thats why i prefer psychological shit nowadays
>>
>>221848090
Usually if you were to tell me the kid of white parents in a movie is brown and the movie treats this as not needing any kind of explanation as to the kid being adopted or whatever, then I'd be completely against it as this forced need to have blacks or browns in all movies is just retarded. But in this instance, that actor actually delivered quite a solid performance. So I don't mind the casting choice here although I do think generally speaking it's bad and immersion breaking.
>>
>>221849109
>if you have been through some bad shit in real life, horror movies don't really scare anymore. Real life and reality have the true horrors in life
This is true. There is plenty of stuff that exists in the real world that once you've seen or experienced, the idea of ghosts and demons, no matter how well presented in horror flicks, starts seeming silly in comparison.
>>
Sinister is pretty spoopy

There was a thread some time this past week about recommendations for movies with existential themes and someone recommended The Endless. Not sure if you're the same anon, but if you are then thanks a lot because this movie is pretty good and I had a great time watching it. Which I don't usually these days. It has a particular atmosphere to it that I really like in movies. I don't care as much about the 'existentialism' side of it. I do see how it can be categorized as such, but for me it was the surreal, mystery, horror vibes with a small pinch of sci-fi that made me like it so much. The idea of there being a 'thing' like that thing, especially when presented in a kind of realistic way like in the movie, is fascinating and scary to me.
>>

Bone Tomahawk is pretty fucked up I only wanted to watch it once

Hereditary is good it's a very well thought out experience and one of the best horror movies you could watch

longlegs also in that same vein keeps a great atmosphere throughout

the Smile movies are decent enough for a watch

It Follows has great attention to detail even with a fairly juvenile plot

Always liked Lake Mungo it's a pretty well done mystery plot to it that keeps you engaged

Sinister is good, also the Black Phone movies, which all have ethan hawke in them

This one was legitimately one of the worst films I've ever seen in my life, it felt like a total waste of time.

The first Conjuring is really fucking good. The Annabell one is decent too.

>>
>>221843716
it's good

>>221850580
it's fantastic but will disappoint most horror fans. it's a family drama with two or three excellent twists. more people should watch this but we should temper expectations for someone who's trying to "shit his pants" like OP.

>>221847035
another excellent film. at times pretty creepy. it has the balls to take its premise more and more seriously as the plot progresses.

>>221852084
it's surprisingly effective

>>221855082
for a fan of this i recommend house of 1000 corpses, which has many nods to TCM. note that it is both horror and black comedy so don't go in expecting a completely serious experience.

among relatively recent films i'd add:
* talk to me
* midsommar
* the taking of deborah logan
* barbarian
* a dark song
* tumbbad

The hype is false and there's not much to it. You won't be scared. The best emotion you can hope for in this movie is confusion, but if you're 98+ IQ you won't even feel that.

Christian. Nationalist. Socialist. It was nothing to me but a waste of time.
I heard Jay Bauman talking about "Society" from 198x, saying "Don't look up anything about it, just watchg it cold." I did. I knew exactly what was going on long before the weird opening credits ugly monster orgy scene was finished, and every line from every character for the first 5 minutes only further confirmed what I already knew.
Normie atheists watch movies about demons and are shocked by them. Humanity is disappointing, to say the least.
