I saw the trailers; I don't know why I gave this the time of day. Matt Damon cannot play a character from before the 20th century, hell everyone in this is pretty awful besides Leguizamo, not to mention the awful costumes and Jason Borne tier shaky cams and claustrophobic shots.
Waste of film, would have looked better on a Canon XL1 with shoddy compression

One has a crazy curvature and the other is just kinda bowed. Listen..this movie is the gayest shit ever but I can still be objective with certain things. They show the bow in a scene and the thing is long. It becomes smaller because of the crazy amount it bends to string it. And again, it has heavy curves in it.

Odyssey and Troy are both 'inaccurate' and ignore the concept of gods but that's where the similarities end.

Troy is colorful and has a range of emotions throughout, with well choreographed fight scenes and some campy fun.

Odyssey is a miserable slog with dead-eyed line delivery, quick cuts, and absolutely bizarre stylistic and story choices. It won't be remembered fondly, if at all.

Compared to Odyssey it's infinitely more accurate just by the virtue of armor and props resembling something that could be used by human race. It's innacurate, but it doesn't undermine your suspension of disbelief. Odyssey armor resembles cheap plastic props from old sci-fi tv show

The return was decent. My biggest issue was penelope acting sad that odysseus killed the suitors. Of course she takes him back after the fact so its remedied some

The bow scene was well done and Im gonna guess nothing in Nolans film comes close to that. Thought fiennes did good matching the poems angle of the previous generation being way tougher than the next
>>
>>221845412
Achilles would have “looked like a fashion” model, seeing as how he was stated to be “the most handsome, physically perfect, fastest warrior.” Those things don’t matter though, it’s about the story! The story will be great, even if the setting is all fucked up because of the things you apparently don’t care about. The characters will be great, even though most of them don’t even vaguely resemble the way they actually are.

Oh well, every pig needs its feed.

I wish someone would do that scene justice. Odysseus ( as an old beggar) strings the bow, plucks it almost like an instrument (since it is like the lyre of a warrior). A huge thunder bolt (Zeus' approval) - Odysseus shoots an arrow through the axes, throws of his disguise and then sends an arrow through Antonius. It happens in the span of maybe a minute or two. And then the suitors realize what has happened.Odysseus is home and justice is served.

Its just about draw strength. You can do cool stuff with the shortbows like the fucking.... mamlukian technique... i forget what its called. But you hold three arrows in one hand and notch them one at a time. Thats pretty cool. And use on like horseback makes more sense to not use as much draw strength for obvious reason.

But Odysseus' whole thing (besides being clever) was heroic strength with the bow. Even in this movie. So it really just reveals no one really knew anything about bows making this movie.

Why would Odysseus bow have a weak draw strength like that? Its not like an aesthetic preference. "Shortbows" can be cool too but its just like out of character.

They left one of the cooler bits out of that cut, where the suitor's men are scuffling with Odysseus's servants and a bloody spear punches through the door. They all back off and decide it's not worth dying over. This was a staple of history class in the early 2000s.

>Penelope knew only her husband had the strength and skill to string his bow. It was like an impossible challenge. So having Matt Damon do whatever the fuck that was makes no sense. Unless Nolan hates the Odyssey ??
In every interview i've ever seen from Nolan he comes across as a lucky retard who is faking it, so I doubt he hates anything I think he's actually just really really stupid.

>>221852095

Okay retards. It's disrespectful to the source material where the bow isn't dry fired and to the entire notion of Odysseus being a serious archer. Does that help, to have it spelled out?

I don't know if you know this but the one thing most men are fascinated with are war, ancient war, weapons of war, history related to war, mythology about war, and sword fighting.
>>
>>221852287
I think it's fine to admit it just doesn't look cool.
That's why we have these huge sword fight scenes in movies where people clash their blades 67 times before landing a hit.

through some recent conversations with zoomers, i've learned that zoomers never rate anything on a 1-10 scale very poorly

It made me sad when I was watching Tom Holland's podcast and he was interviewing Tom Holland and Tom Holland asked him genuinley if he had talked to Chris Nolan about what they were discussing (sea people). Tom Holland was naturally looking up to and respecting Tom Holland as such an established academic he like assumed theyd be in the same circle or something. Tom Holland kinda acted like a beta and said "no I havent me him could you introduce me?"

Like come on Tom Holland dont fucking look up to Chris Nolan or think hes better than you or some shit. Youre a great historian. Nolan is just a mid director despite being a billionaire or whatever. Its like glazing Elon Musk. Tom Holland was actually on to something with his somewhat naive assumption, Chris Nolan SHOULD have been asking Tom Holland for historical consultation.

Homer mentions drawing to the chest, so yes Damon's dainty draw is right. I became aware of this while reading Robert Graves' Count Belisarius, with the Byzantine characters noting improvements to archery in their time compared to the ancient past.

It's like he never fired a bow in his life. I don't know too much about archery aside from hunting classes when I was a kid. But even if he is firing in a suitable technique it just doesn't translate well to screen. That should be the main objective; power, strength and accuracy. After all, he was supposed to be an archer like no other in terms of skill and strength.

It comes from the schooling system I think. People think anything below 7/10 is a failing grade and therefore turbo ass, this means they are effectively grading most things on a scale of 1-3 instead of using a full range of 1-10. I will grade stuff at like a 5/10 sometimes and people will look at me with horror like I'm some kind of super harsh critic. When I rate something 7/10 I usually quite like it but found it falling short of perfection in enough ways to annoy me, but then other people think I'm just calling the thing mid. It's quite annoying that people are dumb. What's even dumber is that it takes 2 seconds for them to understand you when you explain how the full range of 1-10 works, like you just removed them from a spell

It's not that. It's just zoomies have been common cored into pussies who don't want to hurt any feelings even if it is the feelings of an inanimate object.

They are taught complete acceptance. They have to be accepting of any and all state approved beliefs or else fear ostracization from the group. That fear is one of the most powerful forces that compels the common man to fall in line with the emperors new clothes.

>Público, one of Portugal's main newspapers, gave it 1/5 stars and said it was a "soulless film", "overly long with a professional coldness which makes it very hard to find any form of personal connection between the director and the universe he wanted to portray". They also said it had a terribly boring and expositional first hour, and was "deeply lacking in sensuality, as Nolan is the director least capable of having an erotic view of the world".

Kek i never thought about it that but they are 100% right. Nolan might genuinely be either gay or asexual or some shit. All of his movies are sterile as fuck.

Its stylistic, Nolan didn't want the Heroic draw pose while Odysseus is murdering unarmed suitors. on the ship Nolan shows him making full draws, (one at a much shorter distance to target), to emphasize the character is doing something Nolan wants the audience to approve of. Still looks retarded.

Gays famously make extremely erotic films tho. It was an entire wave in Cinema. He's just extremely autistic and only cares about the camera. It's like train faggots. They will sacrifice everything logical and reasonable to see specific trains, make model trains that are more realistic, etc. What they are interested in is passionless and unfeeling.
