Why are people acting like The Odyssey is the worst movie ever made? Even if you don’t love it, it still watchable like The Dark Knight Rises. You’re never going to convince me it’s a one out of ten.
>>

It’s a 8/10.
I’d be surprised if it was anyone’s favorite movie ever but it’s definitely not bad
>>
>You’re never going to convince me it’s a one out of ten.
all polls and scores are rigged
that aside, 1 is obviously not appropriate in a vacuum, but what other tool is available as a corrective against an army of fake 10s?
this entire event is a live exercise in propaganda and applied social dynamics
>>
>>221854299
Because they spent 150 million dollars marketing it.

Thats enough to feed 20% of Africa.

For a fucking piece of shit film where a 1% spoiled brat nepo baby director literally rapes the anus of one of the most important literary works in human history.

Yeah.

I think 1/10 is appropriate.
>>
>>221854299
lonely older conservatives fall into a hugbox to complain about culture to feel relevant and become delusional
i was part of it til i pulled myself out of it
not a liberal now or anything but they have the same problem hollywood used to have 5 years ago
>>
>>221854299
The Prestige is objectively much better and has a 76% RT score.

>literally rapes the anus of one of the most important literary works in human history.
See, I just don't get that dude.It felt like it had a lot of respect for the original text. And just added a modern sort of like question mark at the end of what was the text even written about
>>
>>221854505
It's really pathetic when you see the output of what the daily wire makes, and it's really just the most unimaginative generic bullshit. Like no I don't want your straight faced literal interpretation of the odyssey dude that sounds boring is fuck
>>
>>221854299
It's about not watching a movie and that being the message
>>
>>221854299
it's a good movie, not perfect but really good. people who didn't even watch it are just in histrionics about a couple casting choices. the one thing I will say is that it's hard to take troon Ellen Page seriously as a guy, but it's a pretty minor role, zhe has like 5 minutes of screentime at most in a 3 hour movie. everything else was fine. the recontextualization at the end was great and put a new spin on the story while still being respectful of the source material. the siren scene was probably the best depiction of the siren song I've ever seen, the cyclops and Circe transformation scenes were great too. I really enjoyed it.

I'm all for artistry but the casting was not great.
He hired all the hip people in LA just to further his social standing in my view. Same reason he took the Director's Guild gig.

Cool. And you’re never gonna convince me it’s “5/5 10/10 OMG so peak much masterpiece” like all the shills scream rn
Also, still not watching this shit
>>
>>221854299
>just ignore the blatant propaganda and it's okay bro
Yeah and Citizen Vigilante was reviewed by critics and normalfags without any bias right
>>
>>221854544
Okay then don't watch a film about greek mythology? I dont know what you're trying to say here. You really love Nolan's 'vision' that much that you just want him to reinterpret ancient stories in his own way? His directing is *THAT* impactful to you?

Feel free to elaborate because if a faithful adaptation of the odyssey sounds 'boring as fuck' to you, you either never were interested in Greek Mythology in the first place or you just enjoy sucking Nolan Dick.
>>
>>221854740
Yes, I completely concede that the whole cast and not just the woke ones are fucking awful. Casting hollywood actors instead of theater actors was probably the most hack shit, Nolan did in the film. Like fine, do Matt Damon in the lead but every other role should feel like a person of that time and age. Everyone just looks like a generic American

Film is fundamentally different from prose. So I want a visual and audio interpretation of the story, not a literal page-by-page reenactment.

The miniseries does that, and it’s boring. At least Nolan adapts the story to work as a film. That’s my point. Straightforward adaptations usually don’t work. One of the things that made Stanley Kubrick so great was that he always brought his own interpretation to the material.

That’s what he did with 2001, Barry Lyndon, The Shining, and A Clockwork Orange. He wasn’t just reproducing the source. He was adapting it for film.

That’s what directors are supposed to do.
>>
>>221854520
It had ZERO respect for the source material lmao
You sound high.
If you want a real score from me (I actually saw it), it gets a 6/10, and most of that score is for the sound design.

The good news is the 150 million marketing budget will dry up soon.
It only broke like 40 million on 250 prod budget and most of that was self sucking Hollywood premiers.
Its already flopped.

In a month it will vanish from social media, Nolan will start cringing like Paul Feig still does about his Ghostbusters movie that people still mock him for. Nolans achievements will be diminished, and the world will move on.
>>
>>221855014
You clearly haven’t seen some of the truly awful, overly woke adaptations out there.

This movie does not completely tear apart its source material. Look at The Death of Robin Hood if you want an example of a film that seems to have no respect for the original story.

This movie is not attacking The Odyssey as some outdated piece of Bronze Age literature. It is simply adapting it. Honestly, I’m not sure you could name a single film or TV adaptation that is both completely faithful to its source material and actually good.

none of you guys have provided any examples of how he showed is zero respect for the source material. But i'm the psued.

>>
>>221855279
If this is about the tranny, back in ancient greece all women in plays were played by men so if you want to be authentic all of the women should be played by trannies
>>
>>221855310
The Death of Robin Hood actually disrespects the source by changing the character, story, and message. I don’t see The Odyssey doing that. It follows the plot pretty closely and only cuts some scenes, which is normal for an adaptation. So where’s the disrespect?
