I juist came back from watching the Odyssey at the local kinotheatre. It was okay. The cinematography was pretty good and the visuals were pretty nice overall. Definitely some cool imagery. I thought the plastic meme armor would look like shit, but honestly it doesn't really detract from the experience. Some scenes were pretty rad. The cyclops scene was straight up kino and I say that as a certified Nolan hater. Especially the scream after they stabbed it in the eye. The scene were the witch turns all the men into animals was kino as well and there's some other stuff that's decent like when they go to Hades or when they shipwreck and all drown. The dialogue was absolute reddit-tier dogshit and someone needs to prevent Nolan from writing ever again. It wasn't quite as bad as Oppenheimer, but genuinely embarrassing how awful Nolan is at writing dialogue. The Steven Seagal-esque fight scene at the very end were Odysseus quickscopes a bunch of people and then 1 vs 30's them was kind of silly in terms of choreography. The woke was stuff wasn't that bad but still detracted from the experience for me. The scene were they go to Hades is kind of ruined by Ellen Page given a monologue in her tranny voice; completely took me out of it. There's a scene were burn local guy says "this is the face that launched a thousand ships" and the camera focuses on Lupita Ongobongo's baboonish profile which is borderline comical. Odysseus' right hand man is a straight up jeet, and there's a random Chinese guy that's part of their crew. Zendaya is in the movie for like 30 seconds and she's less of a god and more like a figment of Matt Damon's imagination, so it didn't bother me so much. All in all it looked nice and has some cool scenes, and it wasn't a complete snoozefest unlike Nolan's previous pile of shit, but it was still so-so. I'd give it a 6/10 at best, even if you discount all the culture war stuff.

You're retarded. Nothing is good about this cancer.

>>221865117I'm not some goy golem mindbroken by culture wars, so I can asses things objectively. I can acknowledge that the movie looked good visually and had some cool scenes, despite the niggers/troons and the shitty dialogue dragging it down.
New tactic deployed: mid-shilling.
>>221865044Baboonish is now part of my vocabulary.
>>221865044>There's a scene were burn local guy says "this is the face that launched a thousand ships""Please comply! I need backup here!"So THAT"S how!
>>221865044This lines up with my understanding from other reviews. It’s a mid film that’s being marketed as the hottest thing on earth.I personally don’t like any of the spoilers I’ve heard but I imagine it looks great because Nolan is a good director.I won’t be watching it regardless because I like the actual odyssey and don’t really want a reimagining of it.I do hope it fails because I’m tired of mid things being hyped for political reasons. But it will probably make fine money
Also, I forget to mention the film's runtime is completely self-indulgent. This could have been cut down to a 90 minute movie and nothing would be lost. There's like 5 scenes where Matt Damon is on the beach with "Calypso" going>bro I can't remember what happened!and then she goes>dude you're not ready to remember, eat this lotus flower!Easily could have been one scene instead of fucking 5+ or whatever. They also mention "Zeus' Law" literally a 100 fucking times, which is a directive to treat guests well and then at the end Matt Damon does a whole monologue how he feels he betrayed the people of Troy by sneaking in with the horse trick, and broke Zeus' Law and how this will bring an end to hospitality and civilization and bring about the "collapse of this age of bronze" (yes, he literally says that).
>>221865297This reflects my feeling as well. I grew up reading the standard translations of it and to have Nolan take a huge dump on the story is a no go.
>>221865044So the giants and cyclops were real but the goddess wasn't? Okay.
>>221865297>It’s a mid film that’s being marketed as the hottest thing on earth.Filmmaking and reviews has become a battleground for propaganda. And frankly it has always been like this but with the invention of digital media, it has become much more pronounced. The only reason this quite frankly bad movie is labeled as the best thing since sliced bread is because of the political aspects of it and the huge propaganda machine behind it.
>>221865721As shit as the movie is, the illiteracy of people is crazy. They chalk of Athena to a PTSD hallucination yet they other mythological things are completely real. Like the witch magically turning people into animals.
>>221865721I'm sure she's real, supernatural beings clearly exist in this universe, but she's only seen by and interacts with Matt Damon and never does any god stuff. It's more like Zendaya is a manifestation of Athena. Athena appears to Matt Damon as the girl that he saw get her head lopped of at Athenas temple when they sacked Troy (i.e. Zendaya). People were saying shit like >this ugly mutt is supposed to be Athena, no way browhich doesn't really hit, because you never get the impression that Zendaya is THE goddess, it's more like Athena is choosing to manifest in Matt Damon's mind like that.
>>221865044Just saw it in IMAX, it was pretty good. But I was a little confused by the scene where Odysseus looks directly at the camera and aplogizes for his whiteness. Not sure what Nolan was trying to achieve with that, maybe it went over my head.
What about the music? Is it still being used by Nolan as a tool to force emotion by playing it so loudly that you can't hear the dialogue?
>>221865044Youre such a snowflake. What have you ever written that gives you the delusion youre better than Nolan?>ahhhh i see non white people on my screenBack to your hole
>>221865276She is actually murdering her husband when she makes that face.
>>221866496Yes, the sound mixing was terrible as always. Nolan seems to think that loud = DRAMATIC AND EPIC WOAH
>>221866595Good morning saar
Just a question but how do all of you people who actually liked this movie reconcile the fact that every single costume and armor is completely out of its historical context by thousands of years? What does it feel like to live with such doublethink?
>>221865297I’d probably watch it on a long flight when there’s nothing else I haven’t already seen.Just like how I got to watch Devil wears prada
>>221866940Same reason I can watch a Kurosawa movie and not sperg out over the fact that samurai are riding around on 19th century horse breeds and using swords, instead of trotting around on shitty imported Portuguese ponies while shooting muskets.
>>221866496Last act is just that usual Nolan turning up the drone pitch to try to manipulate the audience that its a tense scene.
>>221865792Yea, what kills me is it has taken over the internet. I understand advertising your film. But now a days it’s inescapable online, no matter where I go I’m being assaulted with what is essentially advertising. Look at this board for example. Now I’m not saying people who liked the film shouldn’t speak their mind and I do believe plenty of folks probably like it. But it’s very clear that some of the talk is just advertising and not a true opinion. Same words over and over, some posts even blatantly lie about the content of the film.Realistically this should be one thread with everyone who wants to talking about the odyssey.
I didn't find Page that distracting, she just looks like a malnourished boy.The Indian and Asian guy were more distracting, I noted this in a post I made in different thread.Trojan helmets looked bad while standard ones looked fine, guy they hired just could not make a full helm.>>221866496I am not sure if there even was a soundtrack.Nothing stood out>>221866940This was not a historic piece nor makes claims of historical accuracy, ergo the armor does not need to be historically accurate to 13-12th century BC.That is all you need. Besides the understated black armor worn by the Greeks, most of it looks jarring.Nolan went for some weird minimalist/brutalism look but did not commit to it and as a result we get a square column on a temple, which in my opinion is much larger problem that is much harder to handwave away because it also goes against "common perception" of the period.
>>221867973>I didn't find Page that distracting, she just looks like a malnourished boy.How she looked was one thing, but her voice was awful. Had that classic transgender voice.
So does anyone have a link to share for a camrip already or what?
>>221865044Cool thanks. Might skip it.
>>221865044>The visualsThe visuals are the worst part. Nolan seems allergic to making a good looking film.
