Who is the king of grand-scale cinema? If your dream large-scale IP were to be made into a film, which of them would you want to have as the director?
Oh also rank them from best to worst.
>>221872528Brakhage
>>221872528Peter Jackson>Sir Ridley>Cameron>Villy>Nolan
>>221872528None of the slop merchants in your pic. For me it is either David Lean or William Wyler or Sergio Leone
>>221872528If I had someone to convert my script, it would be Ridley Scott. I don't want these auteur guys mucking around with it. Ridley's biggest problem is he just keeps choosing shitty scripts.
Nolan is definitely far behind the others. In terms or large scale action Cameron easily dominates. In terms of large scale worldbuilding both Cameron and Villeneuve are great, though Cameron might be ahead due to the fact that he came up with an entire ecosystem while Villeneuve mostly relied on the Dune books. But both are great at conveying the scope.Overall it's Cameron ≥ Villeneuve > Nolan.
>>221872528Villeneuve is the worst one, utter slop.
>>221872528I'd say Jim is up there. The only issue is his unrelenting devotion to what is overall a mid franchise called Avatar.>>221872583Jackson is up there, but he hasn't done jack shit in a while. + on Ridley.>>221872594These niggas is dead
>>221872528Nolan and Dennis are both garbage directors
>>221872594This opinion is absolutely well-founded. Leone doesn't receive the credit he deserves as a great artist on par with Kubrick and other greats simply because he focused so much on a single genre.>>221873102I completely agree with you. Cameron is a fantastic world-builder and a fantastic writer overall.
>>221873204>Leone doesn't receive the credit he deserves as a great artist on par with KubrickBecause he's not.
>>221873236Leone is one of the best framers in cinema. He's not taken seriously simply because he made a lot of Westerns.
>>221873283That gangster flick you posted was crud.
>>221872594Non greater than David Lean. His movies are synonymous with epic.
>>221873795Seriously? I think it's better filmed than Coppola's The Godfather, although OUATIA doesn't have those great characters that made Marlon Brando's film so great.
>>221873831It's incredible how Nolan isn't able to create compositions like David Lean's; at least Spielberg and Villeneuve try.
>>221872528Jimmy even if he wasting his time on Space CatsNeither Nolan nor Denis ever created anything with any real lasting cultural impact.>inb4 BatmanBatman has been culturally relevant for 80 years...Nolan had nothing to do with it.If Denis took some more chances with DUNC I could see it becoming a big cinematic landmark but he played it too safe. Its not terrible but no one will care after DUNC3 comes out.
