I guess the argument is plausible. A person leaving a theater and getting "did you like the movie? Rate 1–5 stars!" on their phone is a very different psychological situation from someone who later thinks "I need to sit on my PC/phone, go to RT, press a button, write a review of this movie, and then press another button to submit it", and it does mean that movie ratings before and after 2019 are no longer comparable. But I wouldn't go as far as to say it necessarily means the score on Odyssey's RT page is not reflective of what the average viewer thought about it, you would need to demonstrate that the change in the system really affects movie ratings.

Rotten Tomatoes has been doing this for years. Whenever there is a big release like this, they artificially inflate the numbers to not hurt the box office.

>>
>>221934043
You weren't alive when the movie came out but back then people were mocking it as another "3D" slop and never gave it a chance. The trailer spends way too much time on the drug which was barely a factor in the movie. Really I mostly just wanted to point out a movie that was shit on but ended up actually being good. The trailer isn't the worst but it didn't help it. Back then they pushed the 3D part really hard as well, the official name at first was even Dredd 3D which was super cringe and the reason I didn't see it in theatres which I really regret now. I bet it was amazing on the big screen.

>>
>>221934262
You can still leave reviews
>>
>>221931964
Surely the push notification is a more accurate reflection of public opinion? It includes the opinions of people who aren't nerdy enough to go to Rotten Tomatoes, but they are willing to tap a notification to say they liked the movie.

People who are willing to go to RT, create an account, and leave a review, are not representative of the general public. They're more nerdy than the general public and probably more critical.

I'd be fine with this. Maybe I'd even drop a few reviews. Maybe there could be tiers of reviews based on you choosing to take more difficult quizzes about the movie in question, and those reviews could get boosted a little above the rest, with moderation only looking at your reviews to verify that you're posting about the content in a legitimate manner, and not just shouting things like "TRANNY NIGGER" or "CHUD INCEL GET LAID" or w/e.
Problem with that would be, of course, that all moderation spirals into gay race communism if you allow even one shitlib mod in.

Where are the threads of happy movie goes talking about the movie and making funny memes about it? They don't exist because the movie only exists to fuel a culture war. That is what the filmmakers wanted, that is why all of the pre launch information was aimed at the parts that would rile up both sides. It's all so fake and gay.

You can always tell what productions are important to (((them))) because of the lengths they go to protect it.

Amy Schumer: The Leather Special on Netflix bombed so hard that Netflix changed the entire rating system site/app wide from the five stars system to the thumbs up system.

Captain Marvel bombed so hard that Rotten Tomatoes eliminated the ability for users to post audience reviews and comments before a film's release. They removed the "Want to See" percentage, replacing it with features that prevent users from confusing anticipated scores with actual post-release ratings. They removed the "not interested" button. They eventually transitioned toward the "Verified Audience" system, where users must prove they purchased a ticket (but only through affiliated apps) to leave a review.
>>
>>221938503

>>
>>221939941
>Theoretically it should be possible right?
Sure but I don't think so. The way RT measures is very similar to CinemaScore. Poll people right out of the theatre if they liked it. You'll get people who were eager to see it IRL vs people waiting for streaming, and you're getting raw thoughts rather than people who thought about how they liked it and later posted about it online. Also RT only started doing this in 2019 so it's not like we've had a bunch of cult classics emerge since then. You'd really have to find a hidden gem to see that pattern.
>>
>chudcels unironically think their 0/10 review for a movie they haven't seen should count as equal to a review from someone who has actually seen it
this tantrum is certainly entertaining, I really don't know why you guys actually thought odyssey would flop
>>
>>221939967
The audience can see trailers before release. The audience can have opinions about a film based on who was in it. The actors do interviews and red carpet events before the release which shapes the overall hype (or lack thereof). Most films these days are continuations in some form of larger IPs, and audience members who have seen previous installments are denied a forum to dicuss the IP, characters, cast, crew, opinions about where its going, etc. Not everyone around the world hs the same release schedule. Movies are sometimes days or weeks released differently. People go on vacation. Diehard hobbyists go to other countries for earlier releases. The comment section is often quoted as the SOLE reason why sites like YouTube are even viable these days, and RT goes and kneecaps themselves. I've seen a few movies before the general public. The theatres team up with local radio stations to give out tickets to advanced screenings and midnight showings to people that call in or do online trivia. Those reviews or comments shouldn't "matter" because they're before an arbitrary date?

Well, OF COURSE it is shit. Nolan does great "concept" movies, not character-heavy movies. He's kinda like Asimov in that regard, his characters are wooden but the concepts he decides to bring to life are great. That's why he shines in "concept" science fiction like Inception, Interstellar or Tenet, while the Batman movies are kinda mid.
>>
>>221940206
Tenet was shit thoughbiet. A truly godawful stinker, even the concept wasn't portrayed well.

They are 100% correct to purge right-wing pearl-clutchers from these sites. Right wingers are noisy, obnoxious, ignorant children who turn every public space they aren't run out of into a dump.

They dogpile anything that runs afoul of their trash politics, then whine like brats when the adults in the room shoo them away, like we're obligated to take their manifestly stupid ideas seriously.
>>
>>221940159
You ever her the old saying "don't judge a book by its cover"? You know who says shit like that? People who've never been punched in the face. You should be able to judge that you don't want to be punched in the face without having to first get punched in the face to determine you didn't like it.

Sometimes you can tell that a shit movie is going to be a shit movie. And if you cn notice the signs and patterns beforehand you can save yourself some money. And if you can tell others beforehand, you can save them some money too.

I didn't need to see the twilight movies to know they were going to be shit. I knew that beforehand. But my wife wanted to go and see them. So we went. I hated the movies, but I liked the hand job during the first movie and the blowjob during the second.

Sometimes studios shit out a movie just to maintain legal ownership of an IP or to maintain licensing. Sometimes the creatives behind it shit it out to fulfill contractual obligations. No one going in to Matrix 4 was expecting a cultural revolution like Matrix 1.

You think just because a thing has wide release that it has to be good by default? That famous people can't be bad at their jobs? That crew can't phone it in? That sometimes, just shovelling money at a thing won't make it good?

I would have liked if it this weren't Nolan's only trick. He did the same for Oppenheimer and Odyssey. There was zero need for time shenanigans in either of those movies but that's the only way he knows how to write and it ruins any non-sci-fi he makes.

A riled up audience (on either side of the political spectrum) boosts and prolongs engagement.

If the movie was entirely mediocre, just a run of the mill, basic, fine for what it is, mid thing, something both sides could just lukewarm agree was just 'ok', it would leave the theatre in a month and no one would ever talk about it again.

Controversy and hype is how you get to the Oscars now -, even if you have to fake it maybe even if you ESPECIALLY have to fake it. Modern cinema is very "Hunger Games" where plutarch nd district one are pulling all the strings to make their vomit more intriguing and spectacular and water cooler talk worthy. Its Truman Show. Its Wag the Dog. Their programming only works on an audience and their means of obtaining an audience legitimately or organically in 2026 against doom scrolling and tiktok brain rot are next to zero. So they have to manufacture everything to get attention.
>>
>>221940516
Plus the "Tenet" thing never came up again and it was very obviously an afterthough, lol. But of course it didn't matter, to me, since it's not really about the story, in a way.
I didn't notice the audio mixing but that's pretty much normal for movies nowadays; I think I might have watched it with subtitles though.
Maybe I should rewatch it; I don't remember the concept being badly shown. I seem to remember it was pretty extensively explored which is what interested me about it.
>>
>>221940399
If there's one thing that you know for a fact is in a movie that's a deal breaker for you, why should have to sit through a 300 minutes of garbage just to leave a review?
I know Helen is black. I know he uses CGI as a crutch constantly. Matt Damon is a talentless hack. Ellen the troon is in it, pretending to be a man.

All of those things and more will ruin my immersion. I don't need to see it to find out, I already know the movie is absolute swill, and only tasteless retards would pay to watch it.

Everyone stared at them like they were aliens. Thankfully we were in a bus waiting for a green light so we didn't have to watch for long.
>>
>>221940542
Ah, I forgot about Oppenheimer. That was also more on his mid side. As I wrote, he's better at concepts/setpieces/ideas than actual stories/characters/adaptations.
>>
>>221940620
>he's better at concepts/setpieces/ideas than actual stories/characters/adaptations.
His brother did the better writing, Christopher Nolan is a good director so long as he's kept out of audio balancing but he was never a good screenwriter.
>>
>>221940575
It might have been but the dialog thing just really soured me on the movie in general. I saw it with my dad second day of release in imax and neither of us could hear shit. The music was turned up to 20 and the dialog was a fucking whisper. Afterwards we were comparing notes trying to figure out what anyone was talking about and we could barely come up with anything. I've never seen another movie as bad as that before or since. Don't know how bad Odysseus is but I've seen multiple complaints about it so it must do that to some degree as well. Nolan has so many shit complexes, can't see color, doesn't like dialog. How the fuck did he ever make it in hollywood I have no idea.
>>
>>221940580
You didn't see it. Which means you have an opinion of a move you've imagined, not one you've actually seen.

Not anon but I'll explain. Review bombing are bots or a group of people from certain websites negatively reviewing a movie by giving it one star. Doing this will skew the score in their favor, in this case for The Odyssey it's a multitude of positive ratings. Chud is a derogatory term for chad. Someone who is considered right wing/conservative with politics.

Where's the cutoff point?
Let's see I pay for a movie, and go and watch it, and it's utter shit, so I walk out halfway through.
Can I leave a review then?
What if it's within 5 minutes?

And if that's the case, how is that different from watching a clip from the movie, seeing it's trash, and then leaving a bad review based on your experience of the movie?
>>
>>221946997
When reviewers say they left halfway through a movie I disregard their opinion. Ebert famously left a screening of Maniac before getting to any of the character driven scenes. He had every right to do so, but he shouldn't have reviewed the movie - he reviewed where he IMAGINED the movie was headed, not where it actually went.

Nobody wants a review of a movie you just imagined. Watch it or don't, but don't leave a review until you've actually watched it.

It varies by state because our elections are not run by the federal government. Each state decides how to run their own elections. My red state requires voter ID. I go to my polling location (which I am notified of repeatedly for months before the election) and tell them my name. The volunteer looks up my name, then asks for my ID after they find my name. After they check my ID they cross off my name and hand me my ballot.

Blue states tend to be the states without voter ID requirements. The official Democrat stance is that brown people are too stupid and poor to figure out how to obtain ID so asking them to show a document they need to get a job, get welfare, get housing, get healthcare, buy or rent a car, board a plane, buy alcohol/tobacco, buy a gun or enroll their kids in school is racist and oppressive.

This will go just like Trump's stupid, endless voter fraud bullshit.

Conservatives will breathlessly declare fraud based on a handful of numbers they don't really underastand - numbers provided by some right-wing idiot who has no idea how to conduct anything like a forensic analysis.

They'll keep spamming those numbers while broadly asserting that the fraud is 'obvious' and denouncing skeptics as shills.

Normal people will remain unpersuaded since they'll quickly spot holes in the data and story that conservatives are unable to plug with logic or research (natch since they don't know how to do either)

You know what sucks? If there really is ticket fraud going on that would be an interesting story. It's possible. But I also know that none of you retards will ever put in the work it takes to drag rumor up to the level of fact. You'll never perform headcounts or gather real data or testimonials or do proper research on ticket sales and audience behavior. You'll just copy and paste Twitter anecdotes like rubes, because that's all it takes to convince the other rubes. And then another right-wing idiot will jangle his keys and you'll forget all about this in the wake of the next dumb conspiracy.

Basically correct, a 97% verified rating is much easier to get now than pre 2019, but it still means something and is generally regarded as a very good rating (as further reinforced by the A cinemascore). The unverified rating in cases of brigading (and this is a case of brigading) is worthless, like there's no point arguing that the film hasn't been well received.

Now another question is, how does that verified amount go against other movie verified amounts after same time. As its touted to be real audience magnet on one hand and on other there are rumours that movie is sold out yes, but no one is watching it. So can that be seen in there.

NTA. "We" are not mad. This site is obviously being invaded by outsiders who are trying to turn it on its head. 3rd grade intellect retarded interns who are worst at memeing than the boomers who unironically use the word "chuddie" and trying their hardest to imitate the post style on here and miserably failing.

Yeah no I get it, the official numbers and reviews are all part of a global conspiracy to keep the white man down. What will the jews think of next?
>>
>>221951835
Hilariously instead of ID what most of those states use is signature comparison which is a completely arbitrary process where 75 year old women and college student volunteers look at your signature and compare it to however you signed on your registration when you turned 18 then decide if it looks right or not.

Not looking good so far chudbros...
>well crush rockstar
EVeryone and their mother will buy GTA 6
>well crush the midterms
Not with the Iran failure lol
>>

In my state we have to re-do our signature when we renew our license. Also there is the picture on the ID itself and they use that too. Every time I have voted the volunteer holds it up next to me to compare me to my picture. If I, a white man in his mid 30s, showed up with an old black lady's ID to try to vote with her identity they would know something isn't right.

Didn't read the thread but the screencap shows the score counting all user reviews is 92%. 56% is just from bad math

You didn't read the screencap either did you.

I did. True score should be (verified likes+unverified likes) / (total verified + total verified)

But TOTALLY not woke right?

K

also fuck off.

everybody knows the score is being tampered with its not a secret
>>
>>221960299
>"It's not woke honest"
>Black Helen of Troy
she has only two scenes and does nothing important
>Black Greek sotryteller
has only one scene and a voice cameo near the end, less than a minute of screentime. His first scene ends with Penelope telling him to, in less polite terms, shut the fuck up
>FTM 'Greatest warrior ever"
Sinon is not called the greatest warrior ever. Odysseus calls him brave because he feels guilty getting him killed to sell the ruse of the Trojan horse
>Odysseus portrayed as tired/bumbling/washed up
Odysseus is never portrayed as anything but competent and intelligent. You’re just lying about this.
>2nd in command a literal jeet
And gets himself killed because he doesn’t listen to Odysseus
>Random Asian in the crew
Has no lines and gets himself killed by the Sirens in the only scene that gives him any focus
>All women constantly saying men are pigs, its men's fault, basically fuck men
Also untrue. Only woman who says anything remotely like this is Circe and she’s portrayed as batshit insane. Her turning Odysseus’ men into pigs is not justified at all since they never attack or insult her.

Rotten Tomatoes is Fandango and Fandango wants you to buy movie tickets from them. Which is in Fandango's best interest for your bottom line: telling you all movies area great, or telling you half of movies are dogshit? That's the bottom line for everything they do and it's why they are very protective about big event movies from major studios.

If the characters are insignificant or have faults, then why cast them as non European or the opposite gender etc?
>>
>RT knows there will be controversy and 1 star reviews, as early as the first trailer due to the DEI casting
>immediately censors the 1 star reviews
this happens every single time a big leftist movies is released.
>>
>>221960983
Because they're insignificant literally whos. Would you rather the movie fill out the diversity quota by having Odysseys be played by Travis Scott?
>>
>>221962016
I would rather shills like you and the entire hollywood system be hanging from the nearest tree. Sadly evil always wins so congrats I guess you get your way.
