You meditate and then you break that silence with shill content? That seems counterproductive
>>
>>221963585
He's just a classic 90s comic book nerd, really, and he never fully got over those personality quirks that they all shared back in the day. The love for cheap gore, anti-intellectualism, the constant christian jokes, the sometimes self aggrandizing statements, thinking everybody else and especially other midwestern folks are completely irredeemable retards (this one might be not so far from the truth), very little interest in actual pieces of culture beyond pop-science stuff, and so on.
At least he can be very funny.

The episodes with nu-Josh were ok and I think sometimes that they've peaked and were better in the past, but even back then they had that John Landis' son weirdo on a few episodes, they had the Rattatouille guy, and Mckaulauk Kulkaklin, so eh.

>>221963503
You can tell with Rich that he knows he's made a lot of mistakes in his life but there's that other more stubborn side of him that believes he's just too smart to be happy. In reality, he's probably just undiagnosed and meeting Mike was literally the best thing to ever happen to him.

They've clearly declined in quality but I somewhat admire how they pretty much di whatever the hell they want these days and not just what people expect of them

Nah that shit was weak. It was far too disjointed and all over the place. There's even a Citizen Kane comparison wtf. At this point, RLM was mainstream. The earlier SW & ST reviews felt more authentic and heartfelt.

>>221969300

>>
The Plinkett Reviews are what has aged the worst about the channel

Some of the points made are pretty clever, like the ones about the structure of the films and how dull and uninspired Lucas' direction had become, but most of them are just "This character did this at this point, which doesn't make any seeeeense"

And while there are lots of logic phallacies in these films, this mentality reeks of early 2000s Internet critique, when everyine thought that if they pointed out story beats that din't nake sense that would automatically make the film unwatchable when there are hundreds of films with wonky and lopsided narratives and tones that are still considered good for a wide variety of reasons

Not to mention the segment in the first part if the first Plinkett review is meaningless now that we know who everyone is lmao, and the point they try to make is incredibly forced, I'd argue that Qui Gon Jinn is a more complex character than Han Solo, it's just that Qui Gon is an okay-ishly executed character in a bad film while Han Solo is a wonderfully executed character in a great film.....but Qui Gon has more aspects and depth to him when you really analyze his character

Robot in the Family
>>
>>221969939
That was always lurking in the background, because their Star Trek Plinkett's they made earlier reach for such shallow shit you'd think they were Cinemasins
>>
>>221966616
pretty darn good list, I must say. It was that Adam Sandler movie review where they peaked, a few years plateauing, and then I stopped watching. It became apparent that they were midwits incapable of doing anything other than driticize low hanging fruit. Rick Evans was especially instrumental in revealing this fact. He's a midle age man with the intellect of a 15 year old.
>>
star wars holiday special
>>
>>221969984
Ooooh yes, it's one of the few things that I truky dislike about Mike, he's one of those people who treat films like they're a math equation or something, where everything has to go a certain way in order for it to be "good".

And of course as soon as something doesn't feel exactly how it should, they go: "This character has been established to be really good at this thing, yet he never does it again until the end of the film, therefore it's BAAAAAAD"

I agree that films have a structure to them and if a film is sloppily written it's gonna show, but films should mainly be about what they leave you as works of art and as an experience, not a checklist of "appropriate" character traits and actions

There are films that are incredibly messy in their plotting and tone yet they work wonderfully because they're well paced, directed with gusto and have talented actors in them

>>
>>221970316

>>
>>221961338
The back to back double whammy of The Force Awakens and Space Flop. TFA and the sequels were basically made with all their suggestions of what they'd do with Star Wars, and Space Cop was their magnum opus which they poured all their creative energy and skill and intelligence into. The sequels exposed they didn't actually know what they were talking about and Space Cop's complete failure on every level showed they couldn't do better than the people they had been mocking up to that point.

In 2016 you can see them shift from at least giving a fuck to just coasting on autopilot and enjoying patreonbux.

They were making fun of Space Cop before it even came out, genius

Mike even made the "Space Flop" joke in a commentary track and said "It's gonna suck so much"

I remember that a former friend of theirs, a Garrett Gilchrist if I'm not mistaken, went off on an enormous tangent about his former friends during a livestream wayyyy back in 2013 or so

He mentioned Rich's past, how Mike supposedly stole a girl from Jay and other melodrama-worthy gossip

The problem is that all this information comes from an old 4Chan post or something, and there are no archives of Classic Gilchrist's livestream, so no evidence to support any of it other than the fact that this person exists and he did start a livestream years ago
>>
>>221971346
that is the thing though ... nobody liked it. It wasn't "so bad it's good" or worth a watch for chuckling. It was an absolute piece of shit, like the AVGN movie, only WORSE. But all right, I'll bite. Ask yourself the following questions:

>What does it say about RLM's ability to be trusted as movie critics if Space Cop is the best they can offer as filmmakers themselves?

>What does it say about RLM's view of their own audience if they aim so low as to make the movie purposely bad?

Tbh, I mostly agree. The review focusing on how characters don't act as efficiently and logically as possible is an annoying holdover of the early Youtube review zeitgeist. The kind of shit Nostalgia Critic and Channel Awesome would do.

They're still very entertaining, but for me the part where he just asks his friends to describe characters is so disingenuous. Like, of course Rich and Jay are gonna play into the gimmick. They have a vested interest in making sure the video is a success.
>>
>>221972557

>>
>>221969939
I think the most disingenous bit in these reviews is when he asks the future RLM group to desribe Qui-Gon Jinn's character and they pretend they can't...when he actually is a subversion of the "old master" trope like Yoda was, but from a different angle - he's an old heretic within the Jedi order, Jan Hus instead of a papal cardinal like the rest of the Jedi council. And that Anakin got introduced to the Jedi through this unorthodox source is what sets him on his path to become Darth Vader.

Qui Gon is an interesting character, a sort of rogue Jedi who's still part of the council and it's genuinely fascinating how his genuine choices end up dooming the Galaxy is a sort of "butterfly effect" situation, so a good character and Lucas did indeed succeed in creating a SW character that wasn't a stock narrative archetype

I just wish the whole film around him was better LMAO
>>
>>221972657

Not really. Try defining Qui-Gon without mentioning his appearance or his role/profession in the style. You can easily do that with Han Solo. Like they said, he's rogueish, cocky, cynical, street-smart, flirtatious... The list goes on. Qui-Gonn? You failed at it yourself saying
>subversion of the "old master" trope

They spent literal years making the film. There's tons of videos of the production process showing how much effort they out into it. Them saying "ha ha we know it's going to suck and really don't care" was 100% pure undistilled copium. They said that because their egotistical gen x pride wouldn't let them admit they are untalented hacks.

That's why I said Space Flop fails on every level. At least if it sucked it'd have some entertainment value. It doesn't, it's boring by every metric and RLM put far too much time and energy into it to be able to brush it off as "intentional" suck.

Alright, fine

Qui-Gon Jinn is also rogueish but in a more stoic and "zen" way, he's smart, well-intentioned but ultimately fails to recognize the danger present within Anakin, he's stubborn and willing to ignore the Council' opinions to suit what he thinks is the righr way to go along....

Is that enough?

Now, do I think that he's a perfect character? No, but I think he's the most interesting aspect of TPM and while I'm not usually a huge fan of Liam Neeson I think he nailed the character, even though his signature emotionlesness does make thebperformance a little stiff

But he is a more complex character (or maybe I should say a more innovative character) than Han Solo, who's pretty much your classic Old Hollywood cowboy or James Dean-esque "cool guy" archetype, the only new thing about it is that he's in SPAAAAAAAAAAACE
