I have never seen the Sopranos but I like the memed phrase "Whatever happened there?". So I looked the actual scene up and was surprised to find out that it has a different energy to what I expected. I thought "Whatever happened there?" would be someone taunting another person by reminding him of something shameful or painful that happened in the past. But its usage in the show is someone trying to quickly brush past the death of a characters brother to avoid making him angry. The exact opposite of taunting. So why do people meme "Whatever happened there? in a totally different way? It shouldn't even have a question mark at the end. It wasn't a question!
Anon, shit can be appropriated for different purposes you know. But I like the theory that he was in fact taunting Philly while pretending to be nonchalant about it. This is supported by a scene where Carmine Jr. actually plays his father in a similar way.
>>221985772>PLEASE MY ASSThat scene also dropped another subtle hint of Phil being a closeted fanook
>>221985590He was taunting him. He was trying to stoke tension between Phil and Tony under the guise of being a neutral broker.
>>221985831This. Little Carmine was the retard they thought he was. He did the same thing with his dad when Sr said he admired Tony. He knows just what to say.
>brush past the death of a characters brother to avoid making him angry. There was no way to not piss off Phil by mentioning it>. So why do people meme "Whatever happened there? Watch the whole scene, Phil repeats "whatever happened there!??!?!" as a rhetorical question to show how pissed off he is. Just watch the show you dumb fuck.
>>221985772>>221985831Okay, that nakes sense. I haven't watched the actual show.>>221986078>Phil repeats "whatever happened there!??!?!" as a rhetorical question to show how pissed off he is.Well it isn't used as a reply. The first time it's said is how it's used and it's not a question there.Sorry, it's just a huge gap between what the actual quote is and how it's used. Watching picrel scene is similarly disappointing but not as egregious
>>221985831Wasn’t he just an idiot?
>>221985772I don't know..."his" turf, "his" appraiser. Bit of a Po Zoor if you ask me.
>>221986886It's humorous cause that little slip of the tongue cost destroyed the entire meeting and threw their truce in the trash. If you assume lil Carmine is being genuine here, it's such an idiotic thing to say that it's hilarious. Imagine negotiating a truce and casually recalling how guy A's brother is dead thanks to guy B's cousin when the whole point is to leave things in the past.
>>221985590The Sopranos is great but The Sopranos fans are mostly retarded zoomers who just parrot lines from the show verbatim whenever it's mentioned whether it even fits the context of what's being talked about or not.
>>221985590ALRIGHT THEN
Surprised this forum doesn't bring up the goth kid taking a shit in front of everyone, I never see anyone here talk about it.
>>221987022There's no chemical solution to a spiritual problem fr fr no cap
>>221987146You look like a Puerto Rican whore.
>>221987159Actual truth bomb though.
>>221987022Listen to him, he knows everything!
>>221986908He used malapropisms and was non-threatening, however he was cunning enough to use their underestimation to his favor.
>>221987159Another expert heard from.
>>221987008I get the humor there, but the way people use it is like for example talking to a sports fan whose team lost>the game last night, whatever happened there? That's not how it's used in the show at all.>>221987022>The Sopranos fans are mostly retarded zoomers who just parrot lines from the show verbatim whenever it's mentioned whether it even fits the context of what's being talked about or not.See also It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia fans. Makes me not want to watch the shows
>>221988887People jokingly compare sports outcomes to serious topics like wars and tragedies all the time, it's hyperbole. For example in this case they're comparing a team's loss to Billy getting whacked. Not too different from making a Dune reference or whatever's currently relevant
>>221989562True and I get that. I'm just saying that the tone, meaning, intent etc of the line in the show is completely different
OP and that box of fresh unsucked cocks, whatever happened there.
