This film is fucking incredible. Solid 9.5/10. Outstanding.
>>
It's a tad too long
>>
It just gets better with age too, especially when compared to all the absolute garbage being released today.

I've actually never seen it, might just watch it tonight. Thanks for the idea, OP.

It's garbage, and I say this as a Christian
>>
>>221986722
It's pretty incredible, I only watched it once, but I was impressed.

Nice try Moshe.

I wouldn't say it's garbage, I just didn't quite get all the hype. Wasn't bad but my expectations were set too high. Also a Christian here.
I really should rewatch though because I only saw it once a long time ago.

Yeah, the extreme brutality doesn't necessarily lend people to want to rewatch it, but it's still great.

it has the best portrayal of Satan in a movie

Disgusting movie.

I am an ex catholic
Personally, I was impressed with how Gibson had each cast member perform their parts in the original Aramaic and Latin.
However, that’s all I really liked about this movie. After watching it numerous times I can’t shake the feeling that it is racist. The Jews in this movie are shockingly bloodthirsty, they look and act like common stereotypes, and it includes common anti-Semitic dialogue.
Let me know if anyone else thought so, or if I’m just overreacting.

No, there's a corny Angel Studios movie carried hard by Neal McDonough playing some sci-fi pseudo-Satan and I thought his portrayal was quite interesting. Still wasn't enough to make the movie worth watching.

That's exactly how the Jews are portrayed in the gospels though, so it's canonically accurate. Just read through all four gospels again and you'll see that's exactly how the gospel writers portray them. The gospels are very clearly anti-Semitic when read in a modern context.

>people wanted him dead
>let out a violent revolutionary instead
>but its weird that they are blood thirsty
>>

>huh, the people that said the nice man's who says salvation is for everyone rather than just the chosen people "blood is upon our children" are bloodthirsty? mel gibson showed the bible on screen the way it's written. this film converted me from atheist to protest and and helped me become antisemitic. since i watched "the passion" almost two decades ago everywhere i look, i see real world evildoers with names like "epstein", "greenblatt", "morgenthau", "lutnick", "kotick", "rosenzweig", "altman"

"the passion" isn't an antisemitic film unless you believe reality is antisemitic because real jews are evil.

The sentiment is noble but it just becomes gratuitous torture porn imo. Yeah we get it, it was horrible, but sitting with that for like a half an hour is brutal.
>>
>>221986722
I did not appreciate how they made the Jewish pharisees look like evil villains throughout this movie

I am a lifelong atheist and I sincerely hate all religion *tips fedora*. It's a very good film. When it came out, it was a major cultural event, and the public felt a certain obligation to see it. At the time, my college friend group consisted of a liberal or three, including a jew. We all made a point of sitting down and watching it together. I was the only one who had a kind word to say about it when we got done, the others had failed to register the dramatic point of all the nastiness (which is comparable to The Exorcist—it's a hard road, but in the end, good triumphs over evil). Basically, this post is my way of displaying my superior aesthetic sensibilities over those of my old normie friends. My metaphysics may align with theirs, but at least I have a little taste (for blood, the whole point with drama/passion is to go low and then come back up).

As of this writing I myself only watched it once. Since I have a pretty good memory of it I should probably give it another go desu, maybe borrow from the local library, I bet they have a copy.
