I usually do too. He’s like a discount John Garfield, and John Garfield is already a bargain bin item actor anyway. He wasn’t so bad in this though movie though, he wasn’t playing a semi-comedic side character like usual so he wasn’t as annoying. Obviously a real star in the lead would have been preferable though.

Apocalypto depicts the Maya, not the Aztec
Here are the differences

Aztec:
>Under most definitions, the "Aztec", only became a thing around 1200AD, though you could argue they originated around 900, 700, or even 200-500AD with certain contrived definitions.
>Defined inconsistently, as either any Nahuatl speaking ethnic group/state, the Mexica subgroup in particular which founded the city of Tenochtitlan, or the "Aztec Empire" which Tenochtitlan was the head of, even though not all Nahua states were conquered into said empire, and some cities/states belonging to non Nahua cultures WERE conquered into it, being the 3 most common definitions. Also, Nahuatl is just one language in the Uto-Aztecan language family
>While their empire covered a wide variety of biomes and areas in Mesoamerica, the actual Nahuas and their cities that people think of as "Aztec" were in the temperate valleys and hills of Central Mexico in what's now Mexico City, Hidalgo, the State of Mexico, Puebla, Tlaxcala and Morelos
>Organized into city-states that conquered each other and turned each other into tax paying subjects and made alliances/political marriages, but Tenochtitlan and it's allies of Texcoco and Tlacopan overthrew their capital of Azcapotzalco in the late 1420s and then exapanded over a huge area to become the "Aztec Empire", centralizing most Nahua states (and again, some non Nahua ones) into a tax paying network, though most conquered subjects still kept their own political identity, agency, interests, rulers, laws, customs etc and were quasi-independent states
>The Aztec ruler (tlatoani) were mostly secular political and military offices, tho they did have some ritual duties, and were technically elected by royal councils, though always from the same royal family it seems. Some "Aztec" cities had those councils functioning more as a senate that called the shots instead of a king, others were more theocratic, etc, tho those may be exceptions

Cont:

>The biggest Aztec city, Tenochtitlan, was a fuckhuge dense metropolis built on natural and artificial islands, with canals running between them and many with many islands acting as hydroponic farms, tho other Aztec cities weren't necess. like that

Maya:
>Said to exist from 2000BC till the last unconquered Maya kingdom fell in 1697, though in practice you don't really see distinctly "Maya" art until like 400BC
>Defined by groups speaking language in the Maya language family (tho Huasteca is one and they're usually considered their own thing/were in a different part of Mesoamerica), by extension "Maya" is also a giant umbrella with ~30 languages, wheras other Mesoamerican civilizations and their subgroups generally just speak a single or a few related languages
>Lived in the jungles of Chiapas, Tabasco, Yucatan, Quintana Roo, Guatemala, Belize, and Honduras
>Organized into city-states that conquered and allied with/against each other, but (at least in the classic period, 100-900AD) their politics tended to be based on dynasties where royal families would use political marriages and installed/replacing rulers to branch out their lineage across different cities, rather then kingdom/empire affiliation being primarily based on who you were paying taxes to/were conquered by. In the Classic period, the Kaan/Snake and Mutal/Hairknot dyansities were two superpowers who waged proxy and direct wars against each other, and then in the Postclassic, the city of Mayapan formed a huge league of allied/subject states
>Classic Maya rulers were theocratic god kings, IIRC they were more secular/militarized in the postclassic
>Big Maya cities had a somewhat dense core, but were relatively low density outside of that, with suburbs sprawling out, sometimes for 100s of sqkm. For agriculture some jungle was cleared, in other cases they practiced managed agroforestry
>see pic for classic maya clothing

I can say more but that's a tl;dr

Allow me to introduce you to a childhood classic of mine....."Sreča na vrvici", or "Hang on, doggy" as it's known internationally, a Slovenian film about a kid who gets a role in a film in which he has to interact with a dog and they end up bonding so well the productiin lets him keep it. His parents disapprove of it, the neighbor kids are curious, all sorts of shenanigans ensue when that large, furry, black dog enters the kid's household.

It's a fun, bittersweet film from 1977 that I watched a whole bunch of times as a kid, and it's a classic in my mother's homeland of Slovenia. I really reccommend it if you can find it.

Why do most people clog their letterboxd bio by adding a personal rating system? Shouldn't a numeric scale from 1-10 be fairly self-explanatory? (assuming you're not a 'tard like dongo that gives everything a 2 and considers 4/10 "watchable")

>Isabelle Adjani was originally cast in the title role, but she left the set after a few days of filming to be with her dying father.[2] It was producer Alain Sarde who brought Maruschka Detmers, a 20-year-old Dutch girl, to the attention of Godard, just out of an acting class and without any film experience behind her. Godard accepted, persuaded both by the perfectly fitting physical type to give life to the sensual and melancholy Carmen, and by the ease with which she faced, during an audition, a nude scene in the presence of the male protagonist.[3]

The blood and sweat and toil
For ne'er were we a melting pot
For ours is blood and soil
For ours is blood and soil my sons
For ours is blood and soil
That our great race ne'er be replaced
For ours is blood and soil

We bear the torch of Europe still
Our hearts with duty loyal
No more the blood of brothers spill
For ours is blood and soil
For ours is blood and soil my sons
For ours is blood and soil
That our great race ne'er be erased
For ours is blood and soil

That we shall flourish in our land
Ne'er from our fight recoil
Come fathers brothers hand in hand
For ours is blood and soil
For ours is blood and soil my sons
For ours is blood and soil
That our great race ne'er be disgraced

>Summer of 1967. La Goulette, a touristic beach of Tunisia, is the site where three seventeen-year-old girls live: Gigi, Sicilian and Catholic; Meriem, Tunisian and Muslim; Tina, French and Jewish. They would like to have their first sexual experience during that summer, challenging their families. Their fathers, Youssef, Jojo and Giuseppe, are old friends and their friendship will be in crisis because of the girls, while Hadj, an old rich Arab, would like to marry Meriem.

I guess you first need to be neurodivergent and have niche hobbies, then you do the peacocking phase, which is just you putting yourself out there via concerts (small ones are better), dating apps or online communities, but you have to show your personality to be attractive to women, hence why the t-shirt thing is a good way to get attention. Females will select you if you share interests with them or make them feel special, though they might also farm you for sex if you're hot (I don't think most 4channelers will have a problem with that). The key is, you must avoid the PUA mentality in which you "cold approach" women or even pursue them; in fact, 90% of pussy comes from being selected and pursued yourself. You don't need to do anything, basically, jus b urself. The more you try to impress them, the more repulsive you are to them.
Also, most hot women are just as insecure as you are, so you shouldn't care too much about anything. I've gotten pussy just by telling women on Instagram they're hot, because even the hottest bitches have emotional needs which no man fulfills because they're too afraid of being rejected by a hot female.
>>
Watched Matewan last night, really good movie. I like the shade of green that's so predominant in the cinematography.

Looking for movies about break-ins or people entering places they shouldn't. Could be a serial killer or a burglar. Anything with that unsettling feeling of someone invading your space, but I'm also interested in stories told from the intruder's POV. The first examples that come to mind are Black Christmas, Halloween, Hush, Rififi, the scene in Manhunter where Will Graham climbs the tree to get into the killer's mind, and real-life cases like the Golden State Killer.

Life's about trade-offs. If you're desperate for romantic attention from women, then it's worth considering making sacrifices (indeed some of them should be both trivial and real no-brainers like "porn" and "manosphere").
>>
>>222054780
Even framing it as "sacrifice" is premature in many cases. You might find that you actually enjoy one of the new hobbies you've adopted for its own sake and more than the one that you've dropped.

>all this posting about trying to get women

i genuinely feel for zoomies these days, things have changed drastically with dating apps and social media.

with that said, the good girls are still out there. organic situations will always occur but you have to put yourself out there. you have to be a person in the world. call it cold approach but that’s not what it is. hitting on them instantly or making the first words you say to them complimentary or about dating or seeing them or whatever won’t work and never has worked. talk to them but make it about the situation youre in. standing in line at the coffee shop? give her a ribbing about her drink order.

it will take practice but it does work. good luck out there i truly hope one day youre all drowning in babes. there are some people in this thread with some great taste and genuine intellect. we need more of that.

>When Queenie was in heat, he said, he pressed his hand “against the hot swollen vulva she was always pushing at me at these times, taking her liquids into my palm.” That was all. According to Peter Parker, another friend is reported to have asked Ackerley the same question, and got a slightly fuller answer. “A little finger-work,” Ackerley said.

>Arthouse. Eisenstein (Elmer Back) travels to Guanajuato to get his back blown out and also shoot a movie. We get our first shot of a penis five minutes in, then we get someone talking to their fully visible penis 20 minutes in. This might be the first Greenaway film where the full frontal male nudity isn't gratuitous and actually has some significance to the plot, so good for him. What is gratuitous is the shot of olive oil running down Eisenstein's butt and then him getting bummed. I'm not gay so I was not into this at all, but what surprised me is that I was very much into the rest of the movie- it's deeply human and playful (which is surprising for Greenaway, who has always tended to be ponderous and up (his) butt) and also somewhat autobiographical (that not so much). There's also some very impressive shots and digital compositing that the technology is actually there to support this time. I love movies and I'm hyped for Tower Stories!

The first hour is what i imagine Bond films could have been like if they were serious spy thrillers, real exhilerating cinema; when he finally gets to the plane and takes off, it almost becomes a different film, it gets much more specific and technical about the plane (maybe the writers were big jet nerds, kek); still interesting but much less so to me. The ending, even though is literally a big explosion, felt a bit anti-climatic somehow, a banger that's more of a whimper. Good film, Eastwood is still to disappoint me.

Next is Honkytonk Man, which i've seen once on television late night on a saturday when i was 12, still have some vivid memories of that, it will probably feel nostalgic to rewatch it. But God knows when i'll actually get to it, the one before Firefox was Bronco Billy and i watched it in early may.

Yeah. I should've specified that I'm not really looking for stuff like Angst, with a completely disorganized, unhinged killer, or Funny Games, where the villains make their presence known and are basically invited in by the victims. I'm more interested in films about calculated killers or burglars, where the focus is on their methods and how they operate if the story is told from their perspective, or on the tension and sense of dread from the victim's POV.
>>222061184
I've seen it. The main character gets admitted to a mental institution to investigate a murder, so it's not really what I'm looking for.

Actually, now that I think about it, escape movies would also fit what I'm looking for, like Escape from Alcatraz, Stalag 17, and that kind of thing.
