Which one do you prefer /tv/?
Old looks like shit because of inferior technology (inb4 uncs seething). New looks like shit because of soulless art direction.
>>222047177Are you retarded? The fucking shitty animatronic cyclops in Hacklan's Odyssey is worse than anything in a fucking 70 year old movie.
>>222047177Correct. Old faggots can't fathom their shitty things are not relevant anymore>>222047202It isn't and nobody is watching old shit
>>222047026Nolan makes it clear Odysseus/Ulysses' journey is a spiritual one as much as it is a physical one, he adopts the Catholic canon that Ulysses is a sinner that's ultimately doomed to hellThe added elements of his deeper consciousness, self reflection and thought provoking moral quandary over his "original sin" of the Trojan Horse, on what it means for greater civilization to glorify deception in a brother war, shattering a fragile bond amongst men across time in perpetuity, are very profound themes. He somewhat recontextualizes The Odyssey into something that fits into the Aeneid and Divina Commedia. Odysseus becomes the pilgrim. He's the worlds first Christian pagan convert even before Jesus was born because he's that damn insightful lmfaoWithin that context I'd say the new film is simply much grander and visionary than other interpretations are that simply seek to adapt the text, because they don't really contain any sort of additional insight. They're just typical and cheesy productions that honor the material but don't do anything whatsoever to inject life into the discourse surrounding the poem itself
>>222047026soul vs soulless once again
>>222047026SOVLSOULLESS
>>222047360Except it's retarded as fuck because this makes no sense. Odysseus didn't break Zeus Law, they were at war, they weren't invited and weren't "guests" of Troy. The Trojans broke Zeus Law first by stealing Helen as guests themselves. Why THAT isn't the "original sin"? Why Trojans aren't the ones who suffered and started the retarded "sea peoples" bullshit?Because Nolan is a fucking retard who cannot write stories.
>>222047026every scene shown looks better in the oddysey, except perhaps for the one where they're all running towards the shipsno need to pretend that those obvious sets with studio lightning look believable in the slightest
>>222047308>>222047177>he NEEDS shitty cgiBoth posters here are street shitters.
>>222047360Zeus and the other gods conspired to start a big war to cull the human population. The rest ist just them picking sides according to their own vanities like Athena being bad mad she wasn't picked by Paris instead of Aphrodites.
>>222047360The scene where Odyssesus literally "surrenders" to the gods and the sea, taking the "leap of faith" as Calypso calls it, is absolutely fantastic and it ties a perfect bow on the first two acts and the final act is one of the best finales in any movie in decades, let alone as a depiction of Odysseus' return. I think it easily surpasses most any of the other interpretations endings, even including what's in The Return, depending on what you might value in an adaptation of The Odyssey overall.>>222047423Yeah yeah retard go ask Virgil and Dante and any Roman what they thought of Ulysses and Troy. We figured that out a long time ago. Trojan Horse = bad, lying and cheating = bad. Wake up already
>>222047360>>222047423It's especially retarded because even under MODERN law Trojan Horse wouldn't be a fucking war crime. Perfidy ONLY applies to things that are widely recognized as "don't shoot" symbols - civilians, red crosses, military uniform etc. It's completely legitimized and allowed to for example disguise a tank as a cargo truck and so on. Trojan hubris took the horse in as a trophy and that was their doom.
>>222047485It's not a war crime, it's a crime against the godsRemember when they cut the head off the paladium?Wait....you didn't watch the film did you? Yet here you are.....
>>222047177sheesh ranjit again with these comments
>>222047457Oh excuse me. You need your ugly stop motion, huh? Your low quality audio? Your ugly shots?
>>222047502What gods? Half of them rooted for fucking Greeks and enjoyed the Trojan Horse and the massacre of Trojans? Lmao you fucking retarded moron.
>>222047543You literally didn't watch the filmWatch the film. Stop obsessing over the made up Homeric text and engage with the context of the film and what its saying about the Trojan War if you want to discuss the film
>>222047502Have you read Homer?
>>222047578If you haven't watched the film you can't discuss what the film adds and takes away and therefore have no context as to what it's actually about. It's anachronistic to Homer and you can't constantly obsess over what the Iliad said about the Trojan War inside the context of this film.Nobody really wants to see Odysseus trick the cyclops with a corny joke and nobody wants to see him cheating on Penelope either btw
>>222047026Troy
>>222047026How are directors praised for this shit all the time when they just copy even the shots from the original movies.
>>222047618>It's anachronistic to Homer and you can't constantly obsess over what the Iliad said about the Trojan War inside the context of this film.yes you canimagine if you're doing a non-fantastical movie about colonizing the moon, but space ships don't exist within it. you don't need to watch the movie to realize that it's going to be retarded.
>>222047658>both directors adapt things that happen in the textwowwwwww hacks
>>222047716No you can't because it's essentially irrelevant to what happens in this film. There is no Achilles, there is no depiction of champions of gods who are choosing sides. That doesn't happen. Irrelevant. This film presents an anachronistic and Christian view on The Odyssey as a spiritual journey towards self surrender
>>222047561The problem is context of the movie makes no sense. Nolan even had to have a retcon retarded Odysseus line at the end to make the stupid ass "MUH TROJAN HORSE" make sense.
>>222047770>victory's darkness will shroud the songs of legends and make bards and blind beggars of us all
>>222047768without all those things, the story can't happen. that's why it's obviously retarded. make a different movie with a different setting and a different backstory. but that would take too much effort, so just bank on your audience being too retarded to care. and I guess that worked. congratulations on being the mythical "lowest common denominator" that everyone's always talking about ruining all of media.
>>222047935>without the anachronisms it's not a unique interpretation>I didn't see the film and don't comprehend the Western Sun but you're retardedYeah yeah little chuddy
>>222047483>Yeah yeah retard go ask Virgil and Dante and any Roman what they thought of Ulysses and Troy. We figured that out a long time ago. Trojan Horse = bad, lying and cheating = bad. Wake up alreadyIt's not just the Romans though. Lot of Greeks also didn't particularly like him. Sophocles, Eupides, Plato to name a few. Greeks pretty much wrote all of their heroes to be admired but also hated. There are no good honorable guys or gods in Greek history. Odysseus is a complex character - a conniving trickster, but also a guy you can't help but feel sympathy for giving all the shit he went through and all the things he lost just to see his family.
>>222047177>old is bad>new is badkill yourself
>>222048143Nolan took the guy Catholics say is burning in hell for his Trojan Horse and made him into Batman
>>222047026o brother where art thou>>222047177>I cant stop guzzling cocks (inb4 uncs seething)
>>222047360I cant tell whats shittier and more boringyour post or any nolan movie
>>222047502>>222047618>you cant criticize a hack who made greek epics shitty and boring and cut out and rewrote the story to be EVEN shittier and MORE boring and lifeless and to say even less about the human condition
>>222048492>hasn't watched the film
>>222047026heroic epic vs subversive anti-hero demoralizing war is le heck slop
>>222048509I, nobody watched the film
>>222047026What does one have to do with the other?
>>222047026literal school work for your book report vs another Nolan Batman movie
>>222047514you're basically admitting that your retard ass would praise some indie project film because it had some pretty wide shots even if literally nothing happens. You'd clap and say "it was pretty!"
>>222047026Lmao you can actually see what's happening in Ulysses compared to Pissi Nolan's shartfilm
>>222047026the last shot is probably the most egregious. destroying the art, statue, whatever, for these invaders is just a quick action with lasting consequences. its a second thought to these raiders and that is shown in the 1954 version. the 2026 version makes it out to be a grand, cinematic moment, but why? you could see it as reference to their victory, dethroning the oligarchs or whatever, but the siege of troy was an underhanded trick in the story, its not a grand, badass moment. why is that unc climbing up that convenient cube to topple a statue? why are we, the viewer, watching him from below?
>>222048651the audio doesnt make you sick either
>>222047026There's a delicious irony behind Odysseus coming up with the idea of the horse (Poseidon thing), then destroying Poseidon's statue and finally getting cursed by the big guy.
>>222048787>why is Odysseus upset by seeing his men behead Athena's palladium, his own goddessBoggles the mind
