What does /trek/ think of the theory that the original plan was for Data to slowly discover that he had human emotions all along, and that they changed course with season 3? It seemed like there was a clear shift in his acting from that point, dispensing with the earlier whimsical hints of feeling and committing to the idea that he would remain emotionally inert without some kind of upgrade.

what always kind of pissed me off about Data is how all of his supposed friends let him struggle under the false assumption that "FEELING" emotions actually means anything. it's something totally arbitrary and retarded to aspire to because the way you express your feelings is through your actions. if you love someone as friend you treat them as a friend and are there for them when they need you and are considerate of them and go out of your way to spend time with them because you want to and etc etc. there is no meaningful difference between someone who thinks they "feel" something called "love" for their friend and someone who thinks they don't but does all that shit anyway. Data showed that he had curiosity and creativity through his poetry writing and painting and whatever. there is no way to distinguish whatever drove him to do those things and a human's FEELINGS and EMOTIONS that drive them to do the same pursuits. it just annoys me that no one ever made that argument to him and he just goes around the entire show without ever getting a clue or figuring that out for himself.
