The problem with supervillains, and this isn’t something exclusive to Spidey either, is that most writers/directors feel the need to explain them in the movie, give them *some* origin for the general audience to digest. That’s understandable, but it also makes the movies extremely formulaic. I wish someone would have the courage and support to just do a “Marvel Universe” series similar to “Gotham,” only connect it to the movies in a meaningful way. You wouldn’t even have to follow any specific character or organization. You could spend a season focusing on AIM and all the crazy shit they produce, another focusing on ROXXON and all the dirty shit they get up to. You could follow S.H.I.E.L.D. and even the Bugle’s reporters. And with that going, you could actually do what the comics do - blurb out the specific show episodes that cover the characters in the upcoming movies. I like some of the superhero movies these days but I think that's part of my issue with them, they focus too much on trying to modernize the settings, at least like right out of the gate.
