It doesn't matter to people that the prequels were a low point for Lucas's career, it only matters that Lucas still had some degree of passion and creative vision, while the sequels committee designed temu knock-offs of the OT with no attempt at visual creativity, world building or meaningful themes and story-telling. Thus people are willing to over-look the terrible story, characters, pacing etc. of the prequels due to how vibrant and imaginative the setting is compared to the disney gruel era of starwars.
