The Dragon Pit, the place where the Targaeryan's safekeep the ONE thing guaranteeing their hold over the realm is placed almost halfway across from the Red Keep where they live. Any ruler would have their dragons secured as close as humanly possible to their living quarters.

You noticed how there are like no old people in this show? GoT had mighty houses who felt like big operations with many people involved and generational big families. This show it just feels like late 30s something individiuals standing alone in rooms disconnected from everyone around them. Really artificial.
