On the surface, it was a low-budget late 90s syndicated show with small sets and flimsy special effects. I'm sure it was never on UK television, and I didn't see it in the rental shops either. I decided to check it out, and I wasn't impressed. The first episode begins with the Freddy origin story that was briefly outlined in the first film. This should be a treat for Freddy fans, but the production is EXTREMELY cheap, the script is stupid, and despite the dark subject matter, it feels like it's aimed at young children. But this story is actually the highlight of this horror anthology series, as it turns out that most of Freddy's Nightmares is not about Freddy. After his origin story, Freddy takes a backseat and assumes the role of host, essentially become the Crypt Keeper of this show. From now on, Freddy appears in a frame narrative and introduces short horror stories, of which there are two per episode. From what I've seen, these stories are all shit, and worse still they are unrelated to Freddy and the Elm Street film series. I think would have been disappointed with this even if I had seen it in my childhood.

And one that actually fit in with the mythology of the videogames, Shao Khan was portrayed as a cunning, manipulative and ruthless tyrannical warlord that made justice to the colossal threat depicted in the games.
