I always look forward to his movies. They just feel different and fresh compared to most Hollywood slop. It doesn't always work, but even when the movies are bad, they're at least entertainingly bad. And when they're good, they're pretty enjoyable.

Split is legitimately amazing, almost entirely due to James McAvoy. Every other film of his I've seen as an adult are fucking terrible.
The Sixth Sense, Unbreakable, Signs, and arguably The Village are all kino. Split was almost a comeback but other than that everything since Lady in the Water has ranged from mid to dogshit. It's a shame, but he has multiple certified kinographs to his name which is more than most directors can say. Signs is his peak IMO. Amazing movie.

I could go on but you are pretty on point but I believe there is more than just depression themes in this one though. This was only a few years before 2012 when paranoia for the end of the world was at an all time high and people were actually killing themselves and hiding from global warming
